"Why?" His voice was calm but firm. "Is something bothering you? Is it about me? Did I do something that made you change your mind?"
Aurora said nothing, her eyes still fixed on the floor.
Lucas waited, reading the silence between them. "Alright," he said, his tone steady but gentle. "If you don't want to talk about it now, we can talk later. Whenever you're ready."
He tried to keep his voice calm, but inside, questions nagged at him. Was this his fault? Had his past mistakes pushed her away? Maybe she didn't want anything to do with him or their pups.
Aurora must have sensed his thoughts because she straightened, letting out a breath.
