Chapter 18 - Little Brat

Once they returned to Raine's manor, Raine instructed the butler to prepare a feast.

Vince headed to his bedroom for a nice, warm bath. Although swimming multiple times hadn't affected him much, he was aware that his body had turned cold. The warm water was soothing, and after his bath, he changed into a fresh set of clothes.

He noticed that his closet had been filled with fine clothes while he was away. The cat wasn't anywhere in his room, probably in the kitchen or somewhere around the mansion. Fiona had been complaining about being hungry and exhausted from carrying him after each of his failures.

When Vince stepped downstairs, the sun was setting outside.

The butler, Tony, arrived before him.

"My lord, Lady Raine was summoned by the city chief in the capital, and I don't think she will be returning soon. I advise you to eat dinner without the lady."

'Tsk. I thought we were celebrating?'

"Aww, that's too bad. I guess I will eat without her, then," he said blandly and headed to the dining hall.

Vince's eyes squinted when he saw Fiona eating at the dining table with a napkin on her chest, and a fork and knife in her paws. She was eating elegantly from a plate with obvious arrogance, as if she were some kind of royalty.

"I heard Lady Raine isn't eating with us. Come and start eating, Master Vince. I'm sure you must be starving after your amazing efforts in today's training."

Vince took a random seat and placed a whole roasted chicken on his plate.

"By the way, aren't you visiting your parents, Master Vince? The monetary reward was delivered this morning, and I suggest you visit them, maybe sometime tomorrow, and pay the loan shark."

Oh, right. He had completely forgotten about that. Vince knew that the old Vince must have joined the Selection to help his parents pay off their debt, and now that he had the monetary reward, he realized he would just give it to them. That was the least he could do for the old Vince. He didn't have a heroic spirit, but he wasn't heartless either.

"Of course, I will come with you. Without your memory, I'm sure you don't even know what your house looks like."

"I'll ask Raine about it since I have training tomorrow."

"I'm sure she will let you, as long as you achieve tomorrow's goal sooner than expected, just like you did today."

Fiona smiled, showing both her fangs and her dark eyes, which appeared creepy to Vince.

'Tsk. Tsk. The diabolical look in her red eyes is really creepy as hell.'

"You make it sound like what I did was very easy," he said with obvious sarcasm.

"If you just put your heart into something, it will be easy for you, Master Vince. A little push also helps, you see."

"Why are you even eating like that? Fork and knife, seriously?"

"Why not? I am a cultured demon cat, Master Vince. I, after all, hail from a noble clan of my kind." She side-eyed him and said, "You shouldn't look down on me just because I am your pet servant."

Look at those side eyes. Vince felt goosebumps on his arms.

"Are you sure you don't like demon flesh?"

He still couldn't get over the fact that this sassy cat could feed on demon flesh. What if she suddenly pounced on him? Such risky company, wasn't it?

"I have been with you since you were as little as I am, and I haven't ever tried taking a bite out of you. I hope that eases your worries, Master Vince. I told you, you look nowhere near appetizing to me."

Vince smirked. "Oh, isn't that a relief."

After dinner, Vince went out of the mansion to take a walk around the residence. He didn't intend to go far, just to take a stroll in the garden.

Raine's manor was in a secluded area of the city, practically in the middle of nowhere. No noisy neighbors, no people besides the guards and servants. It was a peaceful residence for Vince, which is why he figured it was the perfect place for him to live in this world.

Walking slowly through the well-maintained garden, Vince noticed that the moon was larger here compared to the moon in his world. It was a little brighter too, or maybe it was just his better eyesight? He wasn't sure.

"Chestnut hair, unfamiliar scent, unfamiliar body build. Who are you?"

Vince turned around and saw a girl—a girl who appeared to be no more than 15 years old.

She was wearing a black long skirt that hid her ankles. Her white long-sleeved shirt was tucked into her skirt, and over her shirt was a black vest and black tie. Her straight black hair was cropped short to her shoulders, with bangs on her forehead. Her eyes were like a fox's, upturned. She looked really young to Vince, like a kid who was cosplaying.

"I think I should be the one asking that," he said coolly.

He was in Raine's residence, where he was a guest, and he'd been here since yesterday. He hadn't seen this girl before.

"You've got some arrogance, I see."

"So, who are you?"

The girl's eyes narrowed and her lips curled up as if she thought he was being ridiculous.

"Why do I have to answer you? You aren't the master of this residence. Who knows? You might be a trespasser."

"Trespasser? Hey! I am a guest here! How bold of you to accuse me, young girl! Didn't your parents teach you any manners? That isn't how you talk to your elders."

With the bangs hiding the girl's forehead completely, Vince couldn't see the color of her stone, so he had no idea about her power class.

But he didn't think much about that. Although in reality, he was a 36-year-old trapped in the body of a 96-year-old demon, he knew for sure that his age as a demon was older than the girl in front of him. So, he considered himself her senior.

"Yes, they didn't. My parents died early, so they didn't have the chance to teach me manners. Sorry for that."

But she didn't sound apologetic at all.

"Besides, regardless of your age, I won't consider you my senior. Look at that black stone on your forehead, it looks pathetic."

And she even insulted him?? Vince looked at the girl in disbelief. This little brat!
