Max didn't say more and raised her hand in front of the entrance to the cave, which held a white jade.
She passed through it with no difficulty and then walked down the narrow pathway without looking back. Her two sabers were strapped to her back.
Vince watched her vanish and stood there with his forehead creased for the next several seconds.
"If you push yourself too much, you will die."
Max's words echoed in Vince's mind as he stared at the river. He tentatively touched the water with his fingers, recoiling from the icy cold that seemed to sear through his skin. The water was so frigid that it could induce frostbite with even the briefest contact.
Vince marveled at the sheer intensity of the cold. As a demon, his body was conditioned to endure the typical chill of the natural world. The icy air and heavy snowfall in the snowy forest had been manageable, even with his relatively thin clothing.
