"This is your room, Miss Elise."
Elise stepped into her room, the door clicking shut softly behind her. The grand space seemed foreign despite its attempt at familiarity.
Heavy velvet curtains framed the large windows, blocking out most of the natural light. The bed, massive and adorned with expensive linens, sat at the center of the room, a symbol of the wealth that permeated every inch of the mansion. But wealth didn't feel like home.
Nothing here did.
She could still feel Cryolla's venomous gaze burning into her back from earlier. Instead, she let out a slow breath, her fingers curling into fists as she tried to calm the emotions swirling within her. Cryolla's words still echoed in her mind.
"Don't get too comfortable."
Elise's jaw clenched. No matter how many years had passed, Cryolla hadn't changed.
