Chapter 27 - Moving in next door

Yesterday was as tedious us always, especially with the whole doomsday theme waiting to happen. Who would have thought this day would ever come? A day when the devil walks among man, like a Lion among a herd of cattle, working towards shepherding them rather than feasting on them?

Such a thing could only happen in Paradise City, home to humans and things that likes to lurk.

Lucifer stumbled out of his apartment building, still buttoning his wrinkled uniform shirt. He'd overslept again, his dreams haunted by visions of cosmic battles and oddly enough, a tap-dancing Asmodeus. The latter was probably a sign he needed to lay off the late-night snacks.

"Great start to saving the world," he muttered, running a hand through his disheveled hair. "The Morningstar, defeater of demons, vanquisher of evil, and apparently incapable of setting an alarm."

He was so wrapped up in his self-deprecating monologue that he almost ran straight into a pair of enormous, perky boobs. Boobs that were practically bursting out of their confines, calling attention to their fullness and roundness.

"Ezra" Lucifer called out, stumbling back in equal parts surprise and arousal. She stood at the bottom of the steps, her usual stoic expression tinged with amusement.

"Rough night?" she asked, one perfect eyebrow raised.

Lucifer felt his face heat up, balls spasm. "Something like that. What are you doing here? I thought we were meeting at school."

Ezra's expression shifted, a flicker of nervousness crossing her face. "Change of plans. I have something to tell you."

The seriousness in her tone didn't quite match her body language. To Lucifer, she looked more needy than a woman craving aftercare, which made him wonder if she had ever gotten laid. But that was just his own dirty opinion. "Okay, now you're scaring me. What's going on? Did something happen with the portal?"

Ezra shook her head. "No, it's not that. It's..." she trailed off, then squared her shoulders as if preparing for battle. This sent a mild ripple across her huge 'Cantaloupes' which didn't go unnoticed by Lucifer's devilish and dirty eyes. "I've moved."

Lucifer blinked. Of all the things he'd been expecting – like a confession to the devil about a fornication ordeal, or about doing hard drugs for the first time ever – that wasn't even on the list. "Moved? Like, to a new apartment?"

"Yes," Ezra said. "To the one next door to yours, actually."

For a moment, Lucifer just stared at her, his sleep-addled brain struggling to process this information, and also the devil in him, which now dwelled suspiciously in his 'johnson', bulging from the thought. "You... what? Why?"

Ezra's cheeks colored slightly, tits looking needy, "The Crimson Oath thought it would be best if I could keep a closer eye on you. Given recent events, they're concerned about potential attacks or attempts to sway you to... other allegiances."

"So, what, you're my personal bodyguard now?" Lucifer asked, resisting the urge to pleasure those hug 'ta-tas'. There was a thought at the back of his mind that he might end up dead the next moment if he let himself succumb to his manly urges. Perhaps, such opportunities will present themselves with Ezra living so close.

"Something like that," Ezra admitted. "Though I prefer to think of it as... strategic proximity."

Lucifer couldn't help but grin. "Strategic proximity, huh? Is that what the kids are calling it these days?"

Ezra rolled her eyes, which almost achieved escape velocity. "Don't get any ideas, Morningstar. This is strictly professional." But her body language spoke a different 'language'.

"Oh, of course," Lucifer said, his grin widening, eyes darting between her face and her monumental chest. "Completely professional. Just two supernaturally-powered teenagers living next door to each other, fighting cosmic evil at night, together. Totally normal."

As they started walking towards school, Lucifer's mind raced. Ezra living next door... it was both thrilling and terrifying. On one hand, having her so close meant better protection, one he realized he needed, easier coordination for their world-saving efforts – that he didn't care so much for. He still had a bit of the devil still in him.

On the other hand... well, it meant having Ezra so close. The girl who had changed his perception about humans. The girl he'd asked out on a maybe-date just yesterday.

"So," he said, trying for casual and probably sounding mildly panicked, "how exactly is this going to work? Are you going to be, like, listening through the walls or something?"

Ezra shot him a withering look. "Don't be ridiculous. I'm not going to spy on you. It's just... a precaution. In case something happens."

Lucifer nodded, then a thought struck him. "Wait, what about Piper? Does she know about this?"

"She's been briefed," Ezra said. "As far as she knows, I'm a transfer student who needed emergency housing. She seemed... surprisingly okay with it."

'Weird,' Lucifer made a mental note to have a long talk with his "sister" about her apparently boundless acceptance of weirdness in their lives.

As they neared the school, Ezra's expression grew serious again. "There's something else you should know," she said. "The Organization... they're getting nervous. Your display of power on the rooftop, the portal incident... it's all adding up to something big. They're starting to question whether I can handle this assignment alone."

Lucifer felt a flare of indignation on Ezra's behalf. "That's ridiculous. You're the most capable person I know. If anyone can keep me in line, it's you."

Ezra's lips twitched in what might have been a suppressed smile. "I appreciate the vote of confidence. But the fact remains, they're considering sending in additional... support."

'Well that's befitting of the devil I am.' Lucifer thought, suddenly feeling entitled to a possible harem for bodyguards, then decided to ask. "What kind of support?"

"I'm not sure," Ezra admitted. "But whatever it is, it's likely to complicate things. We need to be prepared for anything."

"Well," he said, forcing a grin, "at least things won't be boring, right?"

Ezra's answering almost-smile was enough to make him greatly look forward to the idea of extra surveillance on him. The organization had a knack for dispatching female operatives, and he was counting on that. A couple more like Ezra would be deserving of the King/Devil he was.

"With you around, Luu? Never." Ezra answered with a blush.
