The weight of the crown felt heavier than I'd anticipated, not in its physical form but in the responsibilities it symbolized. The chants of the elders still echoed in my ears as Fiona and I exited the council chamber. The intricacies of what lay ahead churned in my mind, but my focus remained on her—my mate, my queen.
As we walked through the corridor, I glanced down at her. Fiona's delicate fingers were intertwined with mine, her expression calm but her eyes betraying the storm of emotions within. She looked up at me and offered a small smile, but I saw the question in her gaze.
Once we reached our room, I closed the door behind us, locking out the world for just a moment.
