Fiona's pov
"Fiona? You're awake" I heard Sebastian say, he began to move towards me but my eyes were on his bare chest. He was so damn gorgeous, his chiseled chest and abs were food for my eyes.
"Fiona!" He snapped his fingers to get my attention, "are you listening?"
I smiled awkwardly knowing that I had not been listening, "what did you say?"
"I asked if you are feeling better. Rachel checked on you and said you would be fine and you were healing fast"
I looked around, my head still trying to place how we got back home.
"How long was I out?"
"Two days now" Sebastian said and my eyes widened, shocked that I was passed out for that long.
"I don't remember anything….. What happened? How did we get home?" I tried to find out why I couldn't remember the ride home.
"Ummmm…." Sebastian was about to explain when we heard a knock.
"Come in!" Sebastian called out and the door opened with Leo stepping in, he bowed slightly when he saw us both.
"Your highness, you have a letter" he informed us and gave the letter to Seb, he opened and read it and his face went cold.
"What's wrong?" I asked but no answer. I quickly grabbed the letter and what I read shocked me.
The twelve elders in the coming weeks are visiting our pack with Ryan to claim my child. I couldn't speak as I had the words choked in my mouth.
"When are they coming?" Sebastian ask, his voice cold as ice.
"Next Sunday to be precise." Leo said
"Let's prepare for our guest then"
"Yes your highness" Leo bowed and left the room.
Sebastian turned to me, he was calm and I was confused how he could be this calm. He cupped my face with his hands and placed a light kiss on my lips.
"Don't worry, I won't let anyone take you or the baby away" he reassured me, he drew me closer and hugged me tightly.
I hugged him back feeling secure in his arms. We stayed like that for a while before he withdrew.
"We need to get you fed, you must be hungry" when he said it, my stomach began to rumble and bowed my head in embarrassment as he chuckled.
Third pov
Fiona's mind raced as she tried to process everything—the letter, the elders, Ryan, her child. It all seemed too much at once. How could they possibly think they had any right to claim her child? Her hand instinctively moved to her stomach, a rush of protectiveness coursing through her veins.
Sebastian's calm demeanor didn't fool her. She could see the tension in his body, the way his jaw clenched, and how his eyes darkened when he read the letter. He was angry, though he was hiding it well. Fiona admired his ability to keep his cool in situations like this. He always seemed to know what to do, and right now, she needed that calm, that certainty.
But she also needed answers.
As she followed Sebastian down the winding stairs of their home, her head throbbed with unanswered questions. The silence between them was comforting in a way, but the weight of the letter hung in the air. They reached the kitchen, and Sebastian gestured for her to sit at the long oak table. He moved swiftly, grabbing some bread and fruit from the pantry before pouring a glass of water.
She watched him in silence, his movements precise, controlled. But beneath that control, she could sense his growing concern. He was worried for her.
As she ate, Sebastian leaned against the counter, arms crossed. He stared out the window, his eyes distant. Fiona broke the silence.
"Why now? Why are they coming for the child now? I thought… I thought Ryan had given up."
Sebastian's jaw tightened again. He turned to face her, his expression hard. "Ryan is a coward. He never acts unless he's backed into a corner. The fact that he's bringing the twelve elders means he's desperate. He's trying to force our hand."
"But why would the elders side with him?"
Sebastian exhaled slowly, running a hand through his thair. "The elders care about power and influence more than they care about justice. Ryan must have promised them something—something big. And with the child involved, they see an opportunity to control both of us."
Fiona felt a cold shiver run down her spine. The thought of Ryan or the elders having any say over her child filled her with dread. She placed a hand on her stomach again, as if to shield her unborn baby from the very idea.
"They can't take the baby," she whispered, more to herself than to Sebastian.
"They won't," Sebastian said firmly, his voice brokering no room for doubt. He pushed away from the counter and walked over to her, kneeling beside her chair. His hand covered hers on her stomach. "I won't let them. I promised you that."
Fiona searched his eyes, finding the reassurance she needed. He would protect her. He always had. But still, the threat was real, and they couldn't ignore it.
"What do we do?" she asked softly.
"We prepare," Sebastian said, standing up. "I'll speak to the pack, make sure they're ready for the elders' arrival. And I'll reach out to some allies."
Fiona nodded, though her mind was still racing. She trusted Sebastian's judgment, but part of her couldn't shake the feeling of impending doom. Ryan had always been manipulative, always one step ahead. What if this time, they weren't prepared enough?
Before she could voice her concerns, the door to the kitchen opened, and Rachel walked in.
"Fiona, how are you feeling?" Rachel asked, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"A bit better, I think," Fiona said, offering a small smile. "Still trying to piece everything together."
Rachel nodded, her expression understanding. "You went through a lot. It's normal to feel disoriented after such an ordeal. But your strength is returning, and the baby is doing well."
Fiona's heart swelled with relief at Rachel's words. As much as the threat of the elders loomed over her, knowing her baby was healthy gave her a renewed sense of determination.
