It was Christmas break and Loki was strolling through the corridors having finished his winter homework. With nothing else to do, Loki was admiring the frozen Black Lake spending his time seeing the shadow of various creatures traveling underneath it from the Seventh floor.
'Should I go to the island at the centre of the lake now.'
'Eh got nothing better to do anyway.'
Loki moved to his dorm and picked up a jar of honey.
He only entered the dorm without Dominic because it was mostly empty and all the pureblood purists had gone back home for the winter
'I should also probably start to learn how to duel…Dominic's not going to be around for the next year to save me from them.'
With his honey jar in tow, Loki began to skip toward the central island in the black lake while stepping cautiously over the frozen lake and snow on his way.
Once on the island, Loki spotted several bowtruckles rushing into trees and attempting to hide from his senses but Loki didn't mind, instead, he opened the jar of honey and placed it on the low branch of a particularly tall tree.
It wasn't long after that the small green humanoid figures began to jump around their hiding spots trying to get a look at the source of the delicious smell wafting down their homes.
Soon, groups of Bowtruckles all disregarded Loki and rushed toward the jar of honey to eat their fill and once they were full they lay down on the branch in a relaxed manner which allowed Loki to get to know a few of them.
After playing with the Bowtruckles for a while by tickling them with his fingers, Loki, feeling quite cold himself, began to trot towards the Great Hall to have some warm soup to warm himself up.
After having soup Loki eventually wandered to an empty classroom.
'Is that Harry Potter? What's he doing staring at a Mirror? Admiring himself?'
Loki curious about the new finding followed Harry in and looked at the mirror himself.
'Huh? Is that Walburga? Is she alright? And Elane? How did Elane grow up so soon? And why is she getting married?! No one can marry her!'
Loki's head started ringing alarm bells as he realised there was some magic being used to amplify the desires in his mind so he immediately closed his eyes and walked out of the room keeping in mind the way he'd entered.
"Hey! You don't want to look at that mirror for so long." Loki shouted into the room to get Harry distracted but his voice didn't seem to be reaching him.
So Loki did the next best thing he could think of and picked up a little snow from the window nearby and clumped it into a ball.
*THUMP*
"OUCH! What the-"
"Don't look at the mirror for too long! It can't be good for you." Loki shouted after successfully grabbing Harry's attention.
"Bu-"
"No! No buts! You can't trust any object that seems to have a mind of its own remember? Isn't that what Professor Quirrel teaches!?"
Harry's eyes widened slightly but there was still reluctance in his look but not for long since his head was smacked with another ball of snow.
*THUMP*
"Hey!!! Stop it!!"
"Come out!" Loki shouted preparing another ball of snow.
Harry walked out furiously and stomped right up to Loki, "What do you think you're doing?"
"Hey, I was only helping a person in need."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Were you seeing something you really wished to see?" Loki asked.
Harry's eyes widened and his gaze was enough for Loki to confirm his guilt, so he spoke up, "A magical object that can learn what's in your mind can't under any circumstance be good for you. Who knows what dark wizard cooked it up with what intentions."
"How do you know that?"
"I don't know, but anything that can think on its own is not to be trusted, haven't you heard enough of that in Professor Quirrell's classes?"
"But you don't even attend his classes.", Harry argued.
"And yet I know the warning better than you. Go ahead and sit in that room if you want to end up as some mindless freak, I'm leaving!" Loki announced and left from there without any further words.
"Hmpf. I tried helping him out of basic human decency and yet he started to argue with me. What did he even see in there? Was it the winning lottery numbers? He looked at me like I killed his parents. Hmpf. Stupid kid."
Fuming on his way back Loki ended up in the library with a rough book on which he was practicing drawing runes.
'This damn thing, it's almost like learning a new language.'
'Why are there so many variations of the same rune?'
'And why are they all so difficult to draw!?'
Loki had memorised about thirty different unique runes in the past three months, spending time not only to learn how they looked but also delving into the theory behind them by combining them with Arithmancy.
Loki's quill turned blunt after a little while, indicating how much he had practised until he eventually thought, 'I should send Mione a letter to tell her to bring me a few ballpoint pens.'
Going to the owlery Loki picked a random owl and attached to its feet a letter and a package, the package was a gift from him to Hermione for Christmas.
He then used another owl to send a similar gift to Dominic which meant his entire friends circle of two people had gained their presents.
The only person he had to send a present in the end was to Elane whose present he sent to Cassandra Trelawney.
Entering his dorm room tired, Loki pulled out the Two-way Mirror that was his only saving grace in these trying times as he spoke to the little angel on the other side.
"Big Bwother!!!"
"Elane!!!! How are you? Are you feeling well?"
"Yes Big Bwother!! There are soo many toys here!! Aunt Cassandra always finds time to play with me!! Today she also made tea with me!!"
"Oh!? Which tea did you drink?"
"Camomamemile tea!! But Aunt Cassandra said that things will get harder for you big bwother."
"Harder for me?"
"Un. Un. She said you will get into some trouble but she also told me not to worry because you are strong enough to face it!"
"Hmm…." 'I don't know if I like the sound of that.'
"But Big Bwother!!"
"Hm~m? What happened?"
"I also made a good luck charm for you today!!! I gave it to Aunt Cassandra and she said she'll give it to you!!!"
"Awww…thank you Elane!!! Thank you very much!!! Now see I will beat up the bad person and come back without even getting a hair scratched!"
"Umu! I trust Big Bwother!! *Yaawwwnn*"
"Good night Elane!!"
"Good night Big Bwother."
With the last greeting, Elane fell asleep and Loki spent a little while with Sunny, listening to his *squeaking* poems before falling asleep himself.
