Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Suspicion

Vance figured out many things while he had free time half an hour ago. One of these things was about his Divine Power.

Circulating his divine energy throughout his whole body via blood vessels, the same principle that Mages use, was something Vance learned from his wife, a Spirit Maiden. She was able to command various mana-condensed entities called Spirits and could bring mass destruction.

Her knowledge about magic was also exceptional. Many Grand Mages and Archmages wanted to meet her and hopefully exchange ideas, proof of how deep her understanding of magic was.

Vance's knowledge about magic mostly came from her.

Although knowing this would not be of use to Vance because of his constitution, it was not completely useless. With it, he was able to battle against Mages without being at a disadvantage.

But getting back to the topic.

Even with this vast understanding of magic, Vance didn't expect that merely circulating a little bit of his divine energy almost made his body crumble to dust.

Thankfully, this divine energy also gave him unnaturally fast regeneration, making his internal injuries recover in just a day. Otherwise, he would have been completely paralyzed.

He should've expected it. Divine Power is completely different from Mana.

Vance then realized that using this power with his current body was not advisable. At most, he could use a speck of it if he was in the Third Order.

The maximum level was Level 100, but this wasn't the actual end. After fulfilling certain conditions, you could upgrade to the First Order and gain various new abilities.

From the lowest to the highest: First, Second, Third… until the Ninth Order.

These were the terms used for every advancement made.

However, Vance wasn't even in the First Order and was still halfway through the max level. And he didn't have enough time to level up.

Vance was sure of it. If he used divine power one more time, in the best-case scenario, he would just fall asleep like last time, but in the worst case, his body would break down into pieces.

Although I am sure I will be fine with my fast regeneration, I can't risk it.

Furthermore, he couldn't show weakness to the people he would lead from now on.

That man, Jack, would definitely take advantage of Vance's vulnerability and manipulate the people to his will with his voice.

That's why Vance thought of an alternative. Rather than circulating divine energy throughout his whole body, why not just focus on a single part of the body?

Though it would lower the quality of his power, with his current Divinity, Vance thought it was surely enough.

This was his current status.

All of this was just speculation and wasn't guaranteed to work, but he didn't have time to think about it further. He would just have to gamble.

That brings us to where we currently are.

As Vance walked and approached the huge hole, he was deep in thought.

Vance expected that he would have to show his power to them. However, he didn't expect Jack to be completely aware of how to use his skill.

Although it was a bit crude, that proficiency in manipulating mana was as if someone had taught him in a rush…

He definitely thought of him as suspicious, but he would investigate him later. For now, he had to focus on this huge, dark, and endless hole in front of him.

Now that Vance was facing what he created, he was amazed.

The hole wasn't just huge; it was humongous. It was big enough to swallow two large buildings simultaneously. And it was also deep—looking down at it, all you could see was darkness. You couldn't even see the bottom of the hole.

I can't believe this was caused with just one stat point in my Divinity, Vance thought impressively.

"Hey, just what are you planning? Don't tell me you plan to jump in there?" an annoying voice came from behind.

It was the voice of Jack. He was standing at the front of the glass door.

A ripple of mana hit Vance uncomfortably. He suddenly had an urge to jump into the hole.

This guy… he's using his skill on me. However, it's useless.

It was actually simple to counter this kind of skill. You just had to have a strong will. With Vance's hundred years of experience, naturally, he had a very strong will.

Vance chuckled and said without turning around, "Just stay there and watch."

I'll deal with you later, Vance muttered in his thoughts.

Vance didn't pay further attention to Jack and focused on the huge hole in front of him.

He raised his arm out with his palm facing downwards.

The arm he held out began to glow bright golden. Specifically, his blood vessels glowed. His sky-blue eyes also changed to golden.

Different from the last time, his right arm was the only part glowing.

Cracks began to form throughout his arm, bringing excruciating pain, but it wasn't as bad as the last time.

With this, Vance was now certain. It was possible to make just a part of his body use divine energy.

Now, let's see if I can cast a spell.

With difficulty, Vance said strugglingly:

"...Earth Distortion!"

A golden light glowed, bringing a magnificent scene to the eyes of the audience.

The golden light shone on them, making them feel at ease.

"What is this? I feel like something soft is embracing me…" a man said with a blissful expression on his face.

"Yeah… I feel it too. This feels good…"

Many people sighed in contentment. This was the effect of the divine energy leaking out of Vance in the appearance of golden light.

Since Vance's divine energy aligned with Holy, it gave the people exposed to it the feeling of lying in clouds. If his Divinity was stronger, he could have made them kneel on the spot.

In a moment, the golden light gradually dimmed, making the people wake from their daydreams.

"What was that? I can't believe I swooned like a girl…" a man said embarrassedly.

"Look! Look! That… that…" another man said panickingly, pointing outside.

"What are you panicking for—..!!" The other man looked in the direction he was pointing and was shocked.

Since the light had disappeared, everything could now be seen clearly. The huge hole that had annihilated the zombie trying to eat them was now gone.

What replaced it—no, nothing had replaced it. It was more like it had been restored.

The cobblestone sidewalk, the asphalt road, and the white markings. It was all there like nothing had ever happened. It was as if there had never been a huge hole there just a second ago.

Needless to say, the people were shocked.

"A-A-Am I d-d-dreaming!? How could the huge hole just suddenly disappear!?" a person shouted in disbelief.

Right now, this was the same question on everyone's mind. Naturally, there wasn't anyone who could answer it.

Then they saw the young man they were laughing at a minute ago.

"We're dead." Funnily, they thought this in unison.

The person they had been scared of had a satisfied grin on his face.

"It's a success!"
