Chapter 17 - Defying the Magicians

With Lyra now encased within the Shadowstone, always with me on the silver ring, I felt a renewed sense of power and purpose. Our connection was stronger than ever. I could feel her presence constantly, a soft, steady warmth on my finger. And when I focused, I could slip into Lyra's realm in an instant, seeing through her eyes and harnessing her unique perspective of the world. This newfound ability changed everything.

It was time to face the king's magicians again.

Back in the training grounds of the castle, I squared off against my first opponent: Varya, the Red Magician. Her fiery aura was unmistakable, a blazing presence in the magical spectrum that I could feel even without sight. Varya was known for her explosive temperament, much like the fire she wielded.

"Ready for another beating, Torrack?" Varya taunted, a smirk spreading across her face. "Last time, you couldn't even get close."

I smiled, slipping the ring off my finger and into my palm, where I could feel its comforting weight. "Things have changed," I replied calmly, focusing on my breathing, letting my Aura Sight wash over me. I could sense every flicker of her intent, every shift in her aura as she prepared to unleash her magic.

Varya raised her hand, and I felt the surge of magic building—a fireball, hot and bright, forming in the air before her. But this time, I wasn't guessing. This time, I could see it.

By slipping into Lyra's realm, I watched the fireball form in slow motion, the streams of red energy coalescing into a deadly sphere of flame. As it flew toward me, I sidestepped with ease, watching it pass harmlessly by.

"What—?" Varya's surprise was evident, but she recovered quickly. She launched another fireball, then another, her frustration growing with each miss.

To her, it must have looked like I was dodging by instinct, but I was simply watching her every move from the safety of Lyra's realm. I could see the exact moment she would release each attack and anticipate where it would go.

I moved closer, using the narrow openings between her attacks to advance. When I was within striking distance, I leapt forward, closing the gap with a burst of speed. Before she could react, I delivered a swift kick to her chest, knocking her backward. She stumbled, her magic fizzling out as she hit the ground.

"Yield," I said firmly, standing over her.

Varya glared up at me, her pride clearly wounded. "How... How did you do that?" she demanded, rubbing her chest where I had struck her.

I just smiled and offered her a hand. "Practice," I said simply, though we both knew there was more to it than that.

Next was Elion, the Blue Magician, who controlled water with a grace and precision that was as beautiful as it was deadly. His magic was more subtle than Varya's, less about raw power and more about finesse. Elion was known for his calm demeanor, but I could feel a competitive edge in his aura as he prepared to face me.

"Let's see if your new tricks work on me," he said with a slight smile. "Varya is all passion, but I'm a bit more... calculated."

I nodded, slipping back into Lyra's realm again, watching as his aura shifted and flowed like a river. I could see him gathering water from the air, condensing it into a shimmering spear. When he launched it at me, it was as if I was watching the world move in slow motion. The spear cut through the air, deadly and precise, but I was already moving, weaving around it and closing the distance between us.

Elion's eyes widened as I dodged attack after attack, moving closer with each step. He switched tactics, summoning a wave of water to push me back, but I could see it coming. I leapt over it, landing just in front of him, and before he could react, I swept his legs out from under him, pinning him to the ground.

"Yield," I said again, breathing hard but steady.

Elion looked up at me, a mixture of surprise and admiration in his eyes. "I yield," he said, a smile tugging at his lips. "You've become quite the fighter, Torrack. I don't know how you're doing it, but it's impressive."

After my victories over Varya and Elion, I felt confident, but there was one more challenge I wanted to face: both magicians at the same time.

"Are you serious?" Varya asked, still rubbing her chest where I had struck her earlier. "You barely beat each of us one-on-one, and now you want to take us both on together?"

I nodded, feeling a surge of determination. "I need to know if I can do it," I replied. "If I'm to face real threats outside these walls, I need to be prepared for anything."

Elion exchanged a glance with Varya, then nodded. "Very well," he said. "But don't say we didn't warn you."

The two of them spread out, taking up positions on opposite sides of the training ground. I stood in the center, feeling their auras flare as they prepared to attack. I could feel Lyra's presence in the ring, her quiet encouragement bolstering my resolve.

"Here we go," I whispered, slipping into her realm once more.

Immediately, the world around me shifted, and I could see the magicians' preparations clearly. Varya was conjuring a wall of flame to cut off my escape, while Elion was shaping a spear of ice in his hand. They attacked in perfect unison, fire and ice coming at me from both sides.

But I was ready.

With Lyra's realm guiding me, I moved like a blur, ducking under the wall of flame and sidestepping the ice spear. I could see every move before they made it, every shift in their auras that signaled their intentions. I weaved through their attacks, getting closer with each step.

When Varya launched a barrage of fireballs, I deflected them with a burst of my aura, creating a shield that sent the flames harmlessly into the ground. Elion tried to trap me in a whirlpool of water, but I leapt over it, using a burst of speed to close the distance between us.

As I reached them, I focused my aura into my fists, striking with precision and force. I moved like a whirlwind, ducking and weaving between their attacks, landing blows wherever I found an opening. Varya's fire sputtered out as I knocked her off balance, and Elion's water lost its shape as I swept his legs out from under him.

Within moments, they were both on the ground, breathing hard and looking up at me in disbelief.

"Yield," I said once more, my voice calm and steady.

Varya looked like she wanted to argue, but Elion placed a hand on her arm, shaking his head. "We yield," he said, a note of respect in his voice. "You've proven your point, Torrack. You're ready for whatever comes next."

After the training sessions, I felt a sense of accomplishment. I had finally found a way to fight against magic, to see it coming and defend myself against it. With Lyra's help, I could see not just the auras but the very fabric of the magic itself—the way it flowed, the way it formed, the way it moved through the air.

"You're getting stronger, Torrack," Lyra said in my mind, her voice filled with pride. "I knew you could do it."

"Only because of you," I replied, smiling. "You're the reason I can see it all. I couldn't have done this without you."

There was a warmth in her response, a feeling of shared triumph. I knew then that we were ready for more. The world beyond the castle walls was vast and filled with dangers, but also with possibilities. I wanted to see it all. I wanted to face whatever challenges came my way. But first, I needed to prepare.

The next day, I made my way to the king's chambers. I had a request to make.

"Your Majesty," I began, bowing low. "I have come to ask your permission to leave the castle for a time. I wish to explore the world, to learn and grow beyond these walls."

The king, a wise and thoughtful man, looked at me with a mixture of curiosity and concern. "You have proven yourself a capable fighter, Torrack," he said slowly. "But the world beyond is not like the safety of this castle. There are dangers out there, dangers that even the greatest knights fear."

"I understand, Your Majesty," I replied. "But I believe I am ready. And with your permission, I would like to join the Adventurers' Guild. It will give me the chance to earn my way, to prove myself in the world beyond."

The king considered my words for a long moment, then nodded. "Very well, Torrack. You have my permission. But be careful. The world is a dangerous place, and you are still young. Do not let your confidence lead you into trouble."

I bowed deeply. "Thank you, Your Majesty. I will not let you down."

The Adventurers' Guild was a bustling place, filled with all sorts of people—warriors, mages, rogues, and more. It was a place where one could take on jobs and quests, earn gold, and prove their worth. It was exactly what I needed.

I approached the guildmaster, a burly man with a scar across his face and a stern expression. "I'd like to join the guild," I said confidently.

The guildmaster looked me up and down, then nodded. "Alright, lad. We could always use another adventurer. But you'll have to prove yourself first. There's a trial you need to pass. Are you ready for it?"

I nodded, feeling a surge of excitement. "I'm ready."

The guildmaster grinned. "Good. Then let's see what you've got."

The trial was tougher than I expected. It was a series of tests designed to push every limit—physical, mental, and magical. But with Lyra by my side, I could see the challenges coming before they happened. I moved through the obstacles with precision and grace, using my martial arts and aura control to overcome each one.

When I finally stood before the guildmaster again, he was smiling. "Well done, lad. You've passed. Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild."

I felt a surge of pride as I received my guild badge—a small token, but one that represented a new beginning. A new chapter in my life. With Lyra's guidance, I was ready to face whatever came next.

And I couldn't wait to see where our journey would take us.
