Chapter 19 - Chapter Nineteen

"Mum?"

She quickly rushed over to her.

"Mum?"

Alejandra's second call got everyone's attention. Judy rushed to her immediately and used her hands to fan.

"Mum, everything will be fine. Okay?" Alejandra said anxiously, kneeling next to her.

She placed her ear in her chest to check if her heart was still beating. It was, but the beat was irregular. She tried her best not to let the tears in her eyes leak on her face.

"Call an ambulance!" Alejandra yelled.

Judy stood up and searched for a phone. The living room was disorganized with their clothes and other belongings scattered all over the room. It was impossible to find a phone.

"I can't find a phone anywhere." Judy said nervously and cried at the same time.

"There is one in my handbag." Alejandra said worriedly and pointed at her handbag which was still visible.

It was on the sofa. Judy grabbed her bag and unzipped it. The phone was locked and needed Alejandra's password or fingerprint to unlock. She tapped the emergency call option and dialled the emergency number.

"Hello, 111?" Judy said tearfully as she managed to find her voice,

"This is an emergency. My m-mum had a heart attack and sh-she isn't moving."

Judy nodded to the instructions of the paramedics and hung up.

"They will be here soon." Just said.

"Don't worry, Mum! The paramedics will be here soon, okay?" Alejandra said to Pilar.

Alejandra looked away from Pilar and glared at the men and Diana, who seemed to be frightened by what was happening to Pilar. She was already angry with them and was annoyed by their idleness.

"Don't just stand there! Do something!" Alejandra snapped.

The two men dropped what they were carrying on the floor and cowardly left the flat. Diana became more afraid by Pilar's condition and ran away. She didn't want to be arrested by the police.

"Don't worry, Mum! Everything will be fine!" Alejandra said softly and sniffed.

The ambulance siren alerted Alejandra of their arrival and Just went down to go and get them. They arrived at the flat and saw Pilar lying on Alejandra's lap. One of the paramedics unzipped her bag and brought out a stethoscope and placed it on Pilar's chest. The paramedics shook her disappointingly. She placed her two fingers on Pilar's wrist to check her pulse.

"We need to take her to the hospital. Fast!" The female paramedic said and hung her stethoscope on her neck.

The two at the door rolled in a stretcher and gently placed Pilar on it. They rolled her to the lift. Alejandra and Judy accompanied them. They rode with them in the ambulance to the hospital. Pilar was placed on a drip and checked her vital signs on the monitor there. She had an oxygen mask on to help her breath since she was unconscious.

The ambulance arrived at the hospital and pulled over at the 'Accident and Emergency' entrance. They brought out the stretcher from the ambulance and rolled her in. Alejandra and Judy followed the stretcher along with the paramedics. One of them held the drip while the others rolled the stretcher.

"Incoming patient!" One of the paramedics yelled and alerted the nurses present at the moment.

The nurses saw the stretcher roll in and assisted the paramedics. They took her to a room which was divided by curtains.

"You can't be here! Wait outside!" A male nurse said, stopping both sisters from going further.

He quickly went back and drew the curtains, preventing them from seeing what was going inside. Alejandra sighed and turned to look at her sister who was still crying.

"Judy, stop crying! Everything will be okay! M-mum will be fine!" Alejandra said calmly, hugging her and consoled her.

Judy's face was still leaking and sniffed. Alejandra caressed her back and stroked her hair slowly. She wiped off the tears on her own face so that she wouldn't scare Judy even more. She managed to stop her from crying and herself as well. The only sound that could be heard from them were sniffs. The curtain opened and a doctor walked towards them. She had a white overall on and held her stethoscope in hand. It was folded which made it easier to carry.

"Are you the patient's family?" The doctor asked.

Alejandra broke the hug and faced the doctor.

"Yes, we are!" Alejandra sniffed,

"I'm Dr. June!" She introduced and stretched out her hand for a handshake.

"Alejandra!" Alejandra replied and they shook hands.

"How is she, doc? Is my mum going to be okay?" Judy asked worriedly.

"She is stable now. She had a heart attack but we were able to revive her. She will be fine. You just need to pray to the Lord and hope she recovers quickly." Dr. June said and glanced at Pilar's bed and kept her stethoscope in one of her pockets.

"Can I go and see her now?" Judy asked anxiously.

"Yes, you can! But try not to stress her, would you?" Dr. June emphasized.

"Okay, doctor!" Judy said and walked over to Pilar's bed.

"I've ordered some tests to be done on her. I'll let you know when the results are ready." Dr. June said.

"Thank you, doctor!" Alejandra said and had a faint smile on her face.

"You're welcome! Please, excuse me! I've other patients to attend to." Dr. June said and Alejandra nodded.

Dr. June left. A nurse holding a clipboard walked to Alejandra .

"Excuse me, Miss?" The nurse said and got her attention.

Alejandra turned around and saw the nurse.

"Please fill in the patient's data." The nurse said calmly.

"Okay!" Alejandra said and collected the board from her.

"Thank you!"

The nurse nodded and returned to where she came from.

Alejandra looked at Pilar who was lying on the bed unconsciously with Judy by her side. Judy held her mother's hand and leant her chin on it.
