Hearing someone defending him made the team leader's face look much better; this kid was really something, admiring him like that. It seemed like a good opportunity to promote the kid and nurture him as a trusted aide.

How could he talk like that? Just because they did such things didn't mean they weren't human anymore. The team leader just wanted to scold the subordinate when he suddenly realized this was the same one who had just defended him.
He couldn't scold him; such a subordinate needed to be properly guided and could definitely become a good underling in the future.
