Chapter 18 - Chapter 17 Patient Talk (Part 1) (Trial run is here, please follow~)

Matt Murdock, also known by another name, Daredevil.

From the first moment Lille saw Matt, he thought: "My God, a fellow patient!"

Indeed, Daredevil's origins were in having dangerous chemicals splashed into his eyes, subsequently losing his vision, but his other senses became incredibly sharp; in some ways, they were even more reliable than eyesight.

By a stroke of fate, he apprenticed himself to a master and began to train his superpowers and fighting skills, eventually returning to Hell's Kitchen.

He tried to legally assist the underprivileged and punish (beat up) the bad guys.

By day he was Lawyer Matt, and by night he was Daredevil.

"That's great, Lille, you can move around on your own now?"

Maya followed Matt, carrying a big bag of vegetables, and it appeared that although mom didn't look Eastern, she had picked up Eastern habits from her father.

Seeing Lille stand up, the surprise on her face couldn't be concealed.

After a hug, Lille said with a smile, "Mom, I don't know what happened, but today I just started walking and was fine.

This is..."

"Oh, it's like this." Matt walked over to Lille, "Let me explain, two and a half years ago, a truck fully loaded with radioactive and corrosive chemicals was driving through here, and then..."

Lille finished Matt's sentence for him: "And then I became disabled."

Matt's senses were so keen that he could detect a person's body temperature, heart rate, breathing rate, and many other subtle changes.

He was surprised because Lille seemed exceedingly at peace when he said this.

He didn't sound at all like a young man who had woken from a two and a half year coma, only to find that his days were numbered.

"That's right, it seems you have a good mindset."

"The moment a person pities themselves, they're done for." Lille appeared very relaxed.

His only concern was that Matt would notice right away that his spine wasn't normal, but so far, he hadn't discovered it.

Maya held Lille's face in her hands with relief and pity, kissing his forehead: "You're a man now."

"Yes, mom, I can talk to Attorney Murdock on my own, you don't have to watch over me."

Lille was not quite accustomed to these expressions of affection—although his mother in his past life had also been very kind to him, he couldn't recall her even hugging him once...

It could only be chalked up to cultural differences, but maternal love was the same.

"Alright, let's find a place to sit down and talk." Lille naturally took the vegetables from Maya's hands.

After greeting the landlord, the three of them entered the house, with Maya heading to the kitchen and Lille sitting down at the dining table with Matt.

Matt said with a smile, "You have a loving mother—let's get to the point, I have been helping your mother with a claim against Kate Waste Management Company.

In fact, I've been trying to convict this transport company because I believe they illegally transport hazardous materials.

But now we are lacking a witness—no one is willing to testify."

"How come?" Although Lille asked, he had some guesses.

Matt thought for a moment and then said, "This company has a big interest group behind it, and they threaten witnesses to keep silent."

"And now, you want me to go to court?" said Lille. "I believe someone is threatening them, but I can't believe that all the witnesses are too scared to appear in court, what happened to them?"

Matt paused for a moment, then said, "You're right, those people not only make threats, I had a witness once—he died."

After speaking, Matt shifted his posture, sitting more relaxedly, resting his hands on the table.

He earnestly continued, "I know a prosecutor who has been investigating the illegal transport activities of Kate Company for a long time, and has been trying to instigate a lawsuit.

But our laws provide many protections for the defendant in terms of procedures, and without a witness, we cannot formally bring charges and convict.

Lille, I don't want to deceive you, there will definitely be risks in testifying, but I will do my utmost to ensure your safety.

Hell's Kitchen needs justice, and people need to see it served."

With that, he removed his glasses, revealing his sightless eyes.

"And now, I have another witness—myself.

I'm also a victim of this company's illegal transportation; their driver was driving fatigued, illegally allowing hazardous chemicals through a busy urban area.

An accident happened. I was right there when a chemical reagent spilled over my face, seeping into my eyes.

"I know how painful that is, and that's also why we need justice, why we need what's fair."

Lille glanced at his mother still cooking and quickly assessed all possibilities in his mind.

The original work seemed to only mention the childhood misfortune of the Night Demon, but more information?

Not as detailed as what's right before my eyes.

Lille couldn't help but wonder how a truck loaded with dangerous chemicals was able to swagger through New York City with ease.

Who were their clients? Who was shielding them?

"Why can't you testify in court?"

Matt smiled, put on his sunglasses, "They say I'm blind, that what I saw at the time might have been a hallucination, a ridiculous excuse, right?"

Lille said, "Indeed ridiculous—Lawyer Murdoch, but I still have some doubts.

Could those thugs from earlier be related to this matter?"

"It's unlikely," Matt shook his head. "There's word that the new mayor intends to push forward the redevelopment of the slums in Hell's Kitchen, but the company in charge of the project hasn't ... come to terms with the locals."

Running his chin, Lille remarked, "So that company plans to drive us out without proper compensation, planning to make us homeless?

No offense, Lawyer Murdoch, but I feel this issue is more urgent for me."

Matt opened his mouth; indeed, that was the situation.

But... apart from catching those petty thieves at night, what else could he do?

It was Lille who quickly found similar information online: United Construction Company had landed a substantial contract to redevelop Hell's Kitchen.

And the owner of the United Construction Company was none other than: Wilson Fisk.

The ancients truly don't deceive me; disputes related to land are mostly dark affairs.

This Wilson Fisk has a well-known name—Kingpin, the boss of gangs across America.

Of course, he might not be right now.

After thinking it over, Lille continued, "That's it, Lawyer Murdoch. I agree with what you said; people need justice—but clearly, the justice concerning eviction is more relevant to my life right now.

I'm willing to testify in court, after all, it benefits me too, and I might even get some compensation.

But I want you to act as our attorney, to help settle this dispute here—no one has the right to evict people from their homes.

Are you willing to take this on? I probably don't have much money to offer you, if I'm not mistaken..."

Lille glanced at his mother still cooking, making sure she couldn't hear before continuing, "Our family probably still owes a lot of money."

This was Matt's third shock of the day, even verging on astonishment.

Was this really a child with only fifteen years' heart who had just awakened from a coma, with limited time left?

So, those dangerous wastes had also caused some kind of change in Lille?

Is this world so coincidental? The waste carried by that truck couldn't be from some Super Soldier project, could it...

His thoughts spinning, Matt soon settled down and said with a smile, "Actually, you don't even have to ask me—I've always been helping the local residents with these kinds of lawsuits.

People here know me, and I think they will know you soon for similar reasons too."

"I hope so—I'm glad that a lawyer as professional as you is willing to stand on the side of justice, Matt. Can I call you by your name?"

"Of course, Lille, but what are you planning to do?"

As the two were about to discuss in detail, a hot plate of food was served on the table.

"Time to eat." Maya smiled, drying her hands as she spoke, "Lawyer Matt, thank you for your help with us lately."

The food looked delicious, following Eastern traditions, rich in oil, salt, and various seasonings...

For a moment, Lille felt like he was back to the time when he first started working.

"Let's eat first then."
