The worse ones are truly like livestock, intensively controlled, bred, and they don't even provide methods of cultivation—just the most basic, cheapest Blood Food.
This segment of people, even after being rescued, had to go through a long time, possibly even several generations of repairs, to barely return to the appearance of a normal civilization.
Of course, there won't be a loss; everyone has to work and with the productive capacity of Human Civilization, even the most basic labor is sufficient to exchange for those living materials.
