Having walked for half a day, Xiao Han had not found any opportunity to make money; instead, on a rather remote overpass, he saw a woman standing there, giving a lonely vibe under the night sky.
"Why did you abandon me?" Dong Dan's face was covered with tears, falling like crystal clear diamonds. Her tears smashed on the ground like shattered hearts.
Three years of love amounted to less than a promising future. Thinking of her boyfriend's betrayal, her heart felt as if it were being torn apart.
There was no one around, and not far away lay a homeless man who had already started to smell, motionless, not knowing whether he was dead or alive.
"Didn't you say I wouldn't dare to die? I'll die right now for you to see, since there's no point in living anyway."
She placed one hand on the railing, wanting to end her own life.
"Miss," a man's voice rose unexpectedly, startling Dong Dan. After all, it was late at night, in a place where there were hardly any people, and suddenly hearing a voice nearby, it would be odd not to be startled.
She looked toward the direction of the voice, and a young man appeared before her. Due to the tears, Dong Dan's vision was blurry, and she could not clearly see the other's face, but his eyes shone unusually bright, momentarily mesmerizing her.
Then she came to her senses, warily staring at the homeless man, and said, "What do you want?"
The young man grinned, giving off a devilishly charming aura, "Since you're planning to die anyway, why not spend a night with me?"
"No, get away from me," Dong Dan exclaimed, her expression one of disgust.
The young man said nothing and simply walked down.
Dong Dan couldn't help but ask, "What are you doing?"
"I'll be waiting for you down here. From such a height, you won't break too many parts anyway," the young man answered without turning his head.
Dong Dan instantly understood the young man's intention. She screamed in fear, glanced at him one more time, no longer wanting to die at that moment, and ran away from the other end to escape the place.
The young man watched Dong Dan's retreating figure and smirked, "Although I didn't make any money, I saved a pretty girl. Today was worth it after all.
This man was none other than Xiao Han.
Under the bridge, he had noticed something off about the woman, which had led to this episode.
"Doctors have a heart of parents, and as an 'Evil Doctor,' I am still a doctor—who says we don't save lives?" muttered Xiao Han. He was just about to leave when his gaze shifted and he spotted a wallet at the spot where the woman had been standing.
Xiao Han's eyes lit up as he walked over and picked up the wallet. Opening it, he saw ten one-hundred yuan bills, totaling a thousand yuan.
"A thousand yuan for a life, truly worth it. I'll gladly accept this," Xiao Han casually pocketed the wallet and left the place.
Unknown to him, after he left, the homeless man got up, pulled out a cellphone, and dialed a number.
"Boss, the young lady is fine now; a young man just saved her," the homeless man recounted the recent event.
Upon hearing this, a cold female voice came through the phone, "A kind-hearted bastard; find an opportunity to thank him."
"Yes," the homeless man quickly responded, hanging up the phone and revealing a ruggedly determined face. Evidently, this homeless man was no ordinary person.
Dong Dan finally made it back home. The scare had drained all her courage to die. Thinking about what the young man had said, she couldn't help but shiver all over.
Walking into the bathroom, she took a vigorous hot shower, which finally helped her relax, and then she collapsed into bed and fell asleep. It had been a grueling day.
However, during her sleep, a man with sparkling eyes and a wicked smile approached her, waking Dong Dan several times.
It wasn't until the sky was about to brighten that Dong Dan finally fell into a deep sleep.
As for Xiao Han, he was already up by then. After washing up, as the day truly began to brighten, Xiao Han grabbed that woman's wallet, stuffed it into his pocket, and walked out.
After enjoying a lovely breakfast, Xiao Han hurried off to school.
"Is it better to find a wife or a mistress?" Xiao Han stood in the school, somewhat vexed by the thought. He was completely unaware that he actually had a class that morning, which would have been the best thing to attend.
While walking and pondering, Xiao Han hadn't gone far before he realized he couldn't move forward anymore. A few people were blocking his path, including Li Shu, whom he had beaten up before.
"Brother Fei, it was him who beat me up. You must take revenge for me," Li Shu said with a sinister look towards Xiao Han.
"What's your honorable surname?" Xiao Han asked, looking at Li Shu with some confusion and furrowing his brows. He felt that this person seemed familiar.
Li Shu was furious. Xiao Han had beaten him twice, and yet he still didn't recognize him.
"Kid, stop pretending here. You've beaten up Li Shu twice. We're not going to do much, at most break your legs. If you behave, you won't suffer much, but if you resist, my brothers here won't be gentle," Brother Fei said nonchalantly, disdainfully glancing at Xiao Han, clearly not taking him seriously.
"Violence is wrong," Xiao Han said earnestly.
"True, I don't like violence either, but this is my territory, so I have to take responsibility for my guys. You hit him, so I have to hit back," Brother Fei replied casually.
Xiao Han shook his head and suddenly said to Brother Fei, "Are you an imbecile?"
Brother Fei was taken aback for a moment, and then his face grew completely grim. He coldly said, "Kid, if you don't drink a toast, you must drink a penalty. Hit him."
"I said the day before yesterday that Tianyang University is my territory. Nobody is allowed to cause trouble here, otherwise, don't blame me for being rude. Are you sure you want to go against my wishes?" Xiao Han ignored those people and fixed his gaze on Brother Fei.
Brother Fei and his group reacted as if they had heard the funniest joke in the world, staring at Xiao Han as if he was a madman.
"This kid must have been scared silly."
"Right, he's daydreaming in broad daylight, spewing such nonsense."
"It seems this kid really is scared crazy; he's not making any sense," they thought.
The people surrounding Xiao Han couldn't help but laugh, thinking he was a complete fool.
"Have you laughed enough?" Xiao Han's expression darkened as his gaze swept over these people.
However, Brother Fei and his group didn't take Xiao Han seriously, still laughing loudly. In their eyes, Xiao Han was just a fish on the chopping board, completely at their mercy.
With a twitch of his lips, just then, a woman's voice rang out, "What are you doing?"
Xiao Han's heart stirred; the voice sounded familiar. He had heard it just last night, though the owner of the voice had not been very stable then.
Such a coincidence made even Xiao Han feel somewhat perturbed.
