Jim looked at the incoming call on his phone with some surprise.
But he still answered, "Chief."
"Hey, Jim." Hansen's voice was full of vigor on the other end, "Are you making fun of me? You're the chief now!"
"No, in my heart, you're still the chief."
"Enough, Jim, there's no need for these damn formalities between us. Can I ask you a few things?"
"Of course, ask away. You know what I can't talk about anyway."
"You bastard, you've already started talking like that!" Hansen said irritably, but still asked, "Actually, it's nothing much. Are you still investigating the Sweatshirt Hero case?"
Jim was slightly taken aback. Why was he suddenly interested in this?
After thinking about how to respond, Jim finally said, "Chief, do you think that's still a case our LAPD should be investigating? Wilson was hung from a streetlamp in front of the FBI. If I keep holding onto this case, do you believe a bunch of FBI agents could be investigating me by tomorrow?"
