LAPD press conference.
Jim took a deep breath and stepped onto the stage.
His appointment had come through, and going from despair about his career two months ago to becoming the Chief now still felt a bit surreal.
After saying that set of things, the Q&A session with the reporters began.
"Chief Jim," a reporter began, "regarding the incident three days ago where former Chief Thomson was killed in broad daylight, how does the LAPD plan to handle it?"
This was a trap.
It was a choice between pandering to that bunch of politicians or offending them, all depending on his response.
Jim had prepared for this question, and he didn't know why, but that illegal immigrant had the connections of a campaign manager.
But Jim no longer cared, for the shock that man had given him was far greater than knowing any person could be.
