Chapter 5 - Red Door

I saw it in her eyes.

The Fae's eyes.

They followed me like dark points. She didn't want me to take the key card.

I took it anyway.

This is my last resort.

Whatever it is the man behind the door wanted, I am willing to give in.

I'm willing to give everything to see Lucious bleed. Anything to get my daughter back, cold or not.

"You know the way, Love" The fae told me and I followed her gaze to the big red door in the Southern corner of the gigantic club.

Her eyes glittered just a little

"Welcome to Midnight Rhapsody, Wolfie" She murmured before she stamped something on my palm and pointed me towards the door.

As I walked I could feel a particular vampire's eyes on me. In retrospect, I shouldn't have come into a shared space smelling like food.

I ignored him nevertheless as I hastened up towards the door.

When I got there, I knocked and waited for the welcome committee.

I blocked out every other sound in the nightclub and focused my attention on the big red door.

"Hello"

There was no sound.

I grabbed the door knob and I turned it. There was a creaking sound as the door swung open.

It was pitch black inside.

I took a step into the dark room, tripping almost instantly over something I couldn't see.

"Hello!" I screamed out loud, frustration lining every aspect of me.

I already have shooting pain from my lady place from pushing out a baby and a head injury, I really didn't care for a matching leg injury too.

"Ever heard of a fucking lamp!" I murmured in frustration as I tried to pull myself up.

"My mistake. I tend to forget that not everyone has my perfect eyesight" The voice stayed in the shadows.

I was startled.

I had no idea that he was that close to me until I heard his voice.

For someone that was supposed to be so terrifying, he sounded…normal.

"I…I" I stuttered for a few seconds before giving up.

He touched my arm.

I froze.

I could hear the sound of my pounding heart. If it kept up, it was going to jump out of my chest.

He helped me up and only left when I was steady.

I cleared my throat…quite loudly actually.

"Mr. Midnight Rhapsody, I am here to make a deal. Are we going to do that or are you more interested in keeping your identity a secret?" I said in this voice that showed how unimpressed I was with this particular setting.

This is not a Bollywood movie for fucks sake!

We are not going to burst into a dance halfway through the scene for no reason or have backup dancers automatically appear fully dressed to dance alongside us.

This is real life, the man in shadow needed to dial it back.

"I believe I have annoyed you, Mrs…"

"Reign, Mrs Katie Reign…" Then there was a pause "I reckon it's Ms Reid now…I just signed the divorce papers. I'm Katie…Katie Reid. Oh wow…" I felt a little strength leave me as the realization hit me "I haven't been Katie Reid in a long time"

There was deadly silence before he spoke again.

"You are Lucious's wife?"

His voice was a little raised for the first time.

"Ex-wife!" I said in between my gritted teeth.

I am nobody's wife!

"Hold still. This is gonna sting"

I blinked. "Wait what…"

I barely finished talking when I felt the sting he was talking about…at the back of my neck of all places.

Oh come on!

Can today get any worse?!

***

When I woke up, it was with a startle.

I was lying on a bed…a strange bed!

That son of a…

"Hello!" I screamed on top of my voice and stood up.

It was a bedroom, everything was in white, the bedspread, the curtains, the walls…everything except the paintings on the wall.

I stood up on shaky legs and he was there…with his back turned, of course.

I couldn't see his face, he was facing the balcony. All I could make out was his structure.

He was tall.

He was built like a tower and he looked formidable in the flimsy white shirt and black pants he was wearing.

I could see him take a sip from the glass he was holding.

I envied him.

I needed a glass of something too.

"Can we talk, please?" I said I tried to take a step into the balcony.

The noise told me that we were in the heart of Old Jersey city. I could hear the sound of cars passing through the roads.

Wolfie ears, I guess.

"Stop" he ordered.

I did…for some reason.

"I might be wrong here but…have I been kidnapped?" I asked him.

"You wanted an audience with me, Kaitlyn. Shouldn't you be making your demands?" he asked me.

He was right.

I mean I should be worried that a psychopath had me in a strange bedroom but I guess my revenge meant more.

"I want Lucious Reign to suffer. I want him to rue the day he was born. I want him to feel pain! Unimaginable pain like the one he caused me!" I screamed out so loud that even my own voice terrified me.

"And Calsey?" He asked. "The sister he cheated with?"

I was puzzled. "How did you know about-"

"Do you wish your sister harm too?" he asked firmly.

I thought about it.

Nothing sobers a girl up as fast as the devil asking if she wanted a blood kin dead.

But I thought about it all the same.

"Let her burn" I choked out.

"Okay" he accepted instantly.

Good.

Good…good.

"And what pray tell, do you want in return?" I asked him.

I guess this is where I sell my soul to him.

He cleared his throat.

"Go to that table by the window and sign the documents there" he said.

I walked to the table expecting a long contract on despicable things to come on me but when I picked it up I froze.

It was a marriage contract.

I turned around instantly to look at him. He was still hidden…still set aside from me, shock lined every aspect of my body.

"Mr. Midnight?"

I was speechless.

"Marry me" He said at last.
