Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Blood-Red Carpet, Marrying the Bride

"Oh heavens, how unjust you are... I have lived openly and honestly, how could you let the wicked run rampant like this!"

Watching Lin Fan being swallowed by the crowd,

Ning Zhenyue felt his legs go weak, and he fell to his knees,

believing that Lin Fan was about to be beaten to death.

A scream unexpectedly emanated from the crowd.

"Ah!"

The first thug, his cleaver not yet swung,

was preempted by Lin Fan's right fist.

So swift, like a whirlwind,

it struck him directly in the face.

The tremendous force deformed his head,

and sent him flying several meters away.

The crowd behind, too slow to dodge, was toppled over by him.

"With such little skill, you still dare to snatch Laozi's woman!"

Standing amidst the crowd, Lin Fan's eyes shone with a wicked light,

like a god of death.

He emanated a brutally bloody and murderous aura.

This scene sent chills down the spines of the surrounding people.

No one dared to take another step forward.

"Kill him for me, and I'll make him a gang leader!"

Sun Ba, with veins popping on his forehead, immediately bellowed.

Under the promise of a hefty reward, his men could only grit their teeth and charge forward.

But with a slight movement of his body, Lin Fan avoided all attacks.

With a grab and a slap, the wind howled.

With every move he made, he ran rampant and unstoppable.

In the blink of an eye, he had carved a bloody path through the crowd.

Everywhere he passed, men and horses were flipped over.

The hitmen curled up on the ground, unable to move, cried out in pain.

This filled the remaining ruffians with such fear that their legs went weak.

No one dared to approach any further.

"Sun Ba, this wedding gift you've sent is quite something, I love these blood-red carpets, they seem so festive."

When Lin Fan stood in front of Sun Ba, his eyes were gleaming with excitement.

"You... who in the world... are you!"

Sun Ba, already pale with fright, could not comprehend what had just happened.

The feeling of being stalked by a wild beast made his back go cold.

An overwhelming sense of oppression made everyone present struggle to breathe.

"Do you think you're worthy of knowing my name?"

Grabbing him by the collar, Lin Fan sneered.

In the six years of battle,

The number of souls that had perished under his hands was beyond count.

"Please... I was wrong... I won't dare again... Don't kill me!"

Sun Ba, powerless to struggle, had already wet his pants.

The threat of death stripped away his earlier confidence.

"Since the coffin is already here, it would be inauspicious not to fill it with something!"

Lin Fan suddenly lifted his foot and kicked him right in the crotch.

Sun Ba's scream was arguably the most forceful he had ever let out in his life.

Blood soaking through the crotch of his pants,

he was tormented by excruciating pain for mere moments before he passed away.

"Getting old really makes you less resistant to torture. If I'd known, I would have changed the game earlier."

Lin Fan, with a look of disdain, picked up Sun Ba and brought him to the coffin.

With one hand, he lifted the lid that weighed over a hundred pounds and stuffed him in.

Only then did he turn around to face the henchmen, who stood petrified like statues.

"Those who don't want to end up in a coffin, start blowing your trumpets. The auspicious time has arrived, let's proceed with the funeral!"

Lin Fan smiled and waved his hand, striking the massive coffin.

The deep impression of his five fingers was his final warning to Sun Ba.

If they were smart, they wouldn't meddle with him again.

If they weren't, then he would kill without a second thought about burial.

"Diriliwalah... Diriliwalah..."

Now, Lin Fan's words were an absolute command.

No one dared to disobey, no one dared to oppose.

They could only reluctantly lift the coffin and proceed towards the graveyard.

Looking at the funeral procession, most people were openly grieving.

Passersby would never imagine that the coffin contained a living person.

......

The matter with Lord Ba had temporarily come to an end, and Lin Fan took a bath.

He sat with Ning Zhenyue at the dining table and exchanged a few simple words.

Tonight was his wedding night.

Thus, Ning Zhenyue didn't keep him for long, letting him go to the bridal chamber in East Cross Court.

"Creak!"

When Lin Fan pushed open the wooden door and entered the room lit by the Dragon and Phoenix Candle.

At this moment, Ning Mengyao was still covered by the red bridal veil, sitting alone at the edge of the bed.

The wrinkled lap of her dress proved that she had indeed been waiting for a long time.

Lin Fan walked toward her with a smile on his face.

He was looking forward to seeing her reaction when she realized it was him as he lifted the red veil.

"Don't come any closer!"

But unexpectedly, the wary Ning Mengyao suddenly shuddered, shouting loudly.

At the same time, she took out a pair of scissors from under the pillow and pressed it against her fair neck.

"What are you doing?"

Lin Fan hurriedly tried to speak to stop her, fearing an accident.

But Ning Mengyao interrupted him in response.

"Don't talk, just listen to me. Even though you saved me from Sun Ba's hands, we don't even know who the other person is. You can't lift this veil, and I can't be your wife!"

In the two hours alone, Ning Mengyao had been struggling internally.

Though she had escaped Sun Ba's clutches, marrying someone she didn't know at all was something she couldn't accept.

"How do you not recognize me?"

Lin Fan raised his hand and directly lifted the veil from her head.

The moment their eyes met, Ning Mengyao was stunned.

"It's you!"

"Of course, now may your husband kiss you?"

Lin Fan looked at the speechless Ning Mengyao with a smile on his face.

Her stunning beauty made him uncontrollably flushed with desire.

He opened his arms and was about to pounce on her.

"Don't come any closer!"

But unexpectedly, Ning Mengyao, like a startled little rabbit,

escaped straight into the bed, still not putting down the scissors in her hand.

But pressing them firmly against her neck.

"You were quite forward on the mountain just now," Lin Fan remarked, startled.

This was completely different from the scenario he had imagined.

"That was then, this is now!"

Ning Mengyao thought she would never see him again for the rest of her life.

Yet unexpectedly, she had unwittingly walked into the wedding hall with him. It was nothing short of a nightmare.

"What do you mean?"

Lin Fan watched Ning Mengyao helplessly.

"I gave myself to you, but... but I was forced by Sun Ba... Do you really think a fleeting romance and getting married and having children are the same thing? I know you are indebted to the Ning Family, but I don't even know your name, let alone spend a lifetime with you!"

Tears swirled in Ning Mengyao's eyes.

She couldn't accept starting this inexplicable marriage with a stranger who had taken her body.

"Alright, if you can't accept the wedding, then give me back my knife, and I'll leave."

It's said that women are the most complex creatures in the world, and it's truly the case.

Lin Fan sighed; the wedding didn't have to happen.

But the knife his master had lent out contained a secret about his own origin.

He needed to get it back as soon as possible.

"You can't leave!"

But Ning Mengyao refused outright.

"Why? You won't marry me, nor will you give back the knife? You're being a bit unfair, aren't you?"

Lin Fan crossed his arms, a look of helplessness on his face.

"Grandfather's health is already poor. If you leave now, it would break his heart. I've hidden the knife in a place only I know about. If you agree to live in the West Court and sign the divorce papers in six months, I'll return the knife to you, and I can give you five million as compensation. Those are my terms. If you agree, step out; if not, I'll die before you, and then no one will want to know where the knife is!"

Ning Mengyao knew that the knife was connected to the chance of her rebirth.

Being completely freed from this marriage was the final shackle to be broken for her.

Lin Fan saw the scissors almost piercing her snow-white neck.

This woman, who dared to love and hate, was serious.

"Fine, I agree," said Lin Fan, who eventually turned and walked out.

He understood that although they had shared intimacy, it was merely her reactive response.

She didn't want to give her chastity to Sun Ba for nothing.

Moreover, the residual snake venom in her body had assisted her reaction.

So even after meeting, love was completely out of the question.

After all, six months would pass in the blink of an eye.

Whether to stay together or part ways then would be left to fate.
