Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 Family Meeting

Two days had passed, and Lin Feng had not received news about moving houses but had received a message from Xiao Qinglan.

"There's a clan meeting tonight. Please come to this address. Secretary Yang will be at the company waiting for you, to give you a pass. No matter what happens, please protect Yuxin. I'm begging you..."

The message was followed by an address. Lin Feng checked the map and found, to his surprise, that it was not in the city but in a rural village on the outskirts.

Lin Feng tried calling Lu Yuxin again but the call wouldn't go through. He wasn't sure if the signal was bad in the village or if her phone was in airplane mode.

"You've got to be kidding. The employer is in trouble before I've even officially started?" Lin Feng muttered to himself, a feeling of unease creeping over him.

No matter if Lu Yuxin was his employer or not, Lin Feng would not let anything happen to her. She had a Pure Yin Body, and she was his first woman.

He checked the time again; it was already half past four in the afternoon. Damn, Lin Feng couldn't help but curse because it was nearly the peak of rush hour, and the roads out of the city would soon be clogged.

Lin Feng immediately rushed to the company, and indeed, Secretary Yang was there waiting for him.

"Mr. Lin, the situation arose suddenly. Get in the car and we'll talk," Secretary Yang said as she pulled Lin Feng into the car and drove out of the garage, heading out of the city.

Once they were on the road, Secretary Yang explained, "The Lu family clan suddenly convened a meeting tonight. Chairman Xiao and Mr. Lu are already at the clan's location. The chairman instructed me to wait here for you."

"A surprise attack, no need to guess that it's Lu Zhenhai's doing, trying to cut off Lu Yuxin and her mother from receiving external help, leaving them isolated," Lin Feng immediately guessed the instigator behind it. If the clan meeting agreed to Lu Zhenhai's arrangements, those old fools must have already taken sides.

It made sense. Lu Yuxin and her mother, one a foreign surname and the other soon to marry out, those old Lu family men naturally didn't want the shares to fall into other hands. The only option for the mother and daughter was to have a complete fallout with the Lu family and split from the company.

But in doing so, the mother and daughter would undoubtedly be labeled as traitors, their reputations ruined, attracting fear and avoidance from others, external collaborators shunning them, competitors taking advantage while insiders fought for power and profits, leading the Lu Group to eventual disintegration.

"It was an order from the clan elders. The chairman had no choice but to attend," Secretary Yang sighed.

Just as Lin Feng feared, the traffic began to slow down. Evening rush hour had arrived, and the outer ring road was now packed with vehicles. Secretary Yang, the female driver, made several mistakes, almost causing a rear-end collision.

"I'll drive!" Lin Feng suddenly exclaimed.

Secretary Yang felt a sudden lightness in her body and was already sitting in the back seat before she knew it, Lin Feng having moved her with one arm—a testament to his strength, and luckily the business car was spacious enough.

The black business car immediately accelerated, weaving rapidly through the traffic, like a streak of black lightning at dusk. Secretary Yang, frightened, quickly buckled her seat belt.

Following the navigation, Lin Feng finally arrived at his destination—Lu Village. There were even villagers guarding the entrance, and if Xiao Qinglan hadn't left a pass in advance, it would have been a hassle.

The further he walked into the village, the more ominous the atmosphere became. A small village, yet both sides were lined with luxury cars. Outside the Lu family ancestral hall, stood a dozen sturdy young men from the village, and even more villagers crowded around to watch.

Loud arguments echoed from within the Lu family ancestral hall.

"Xiao Qinglan, are you not a daughter-in-law of the Lu family? Is Lu Zhenrong not a descendant of the Lu family! Does the Lu Group not belong to the Lu family!"

An old man, his voice booming and forceful, challenged her.

"Since I am a daughter-in-law of the Lu family, why can't I control the shares!" Xiao Qinglan had been in charge of the Lu Group for many years, and her demeanor was imposing, showing no fear.

"Since ancient times, it has been a natural and righteous order for men to be in charge of the family; a woman heading the Lu Group is against convention," another old man pontificated.

"In history, Empress Wu Zetian ruled the state, and Mu Guiying led the troops; speaking thus, is your disdain aimed at Huaxia's women? If your grandmother were still alive, she'd likely have you kneeling in the ancestral hall for three days and nights," Lu Yuxin's voice rose, suppressing anger yet steady and defiant.

"You... fine, fine, the first item on today's ancestral hall meeting agenda was about you assaulting an elder. It seems that unless you are excluded from the family register, it will not appease the public anger or show respect to our ancestors!" the elderly man fumed, frustrated.
