The incident at Xiehe Hospital regarding the appendectomy was not something the author intentionally fabricated, nor was it meant to slander such a leading and authoritative institution. Instead, it was a humorous occurrence during the author's internship.
It so happened that a doctor from our own hospital developed acute appendicitis, but the doctors from the General Surgery Department were not capable of performing such a surgery. After all, the operations they typically handled were of great difficulty, and they simply did not do minor surgeries like appendectomies.
But when a doctor from our own hospital faced such a situation, one couldn't just seek treatment at another hospital, could they? Doing that would be a total loss of face for our hospital!
