Chereads / Arcane Hunter / Chapter 2 - Loli!?

Chapter 2 - Loli!?

I had barely made it through the doors of the academy when I was greeted by a sight that could only be described as pure chaos. A crowd of students had gathered in the courtyard, their excited chatter punctuated by the occasional burst of laughter or startled yelp. I pushed through the throng, my curiosity piqued.

"What's going on?" I asked a fellow student as I spotted Mira standing on her tiptoes, trying to catch a glimpse of whatever spectacle was unfolding.

"Loli's back!" he exclaimed, his eyes wide with enthusiasm. "She's holding her first class of the year!"

"Who the heck is Loli?" I muttered, glancing over at Mira, who looked equally baffled.

Suddenly, a high-pitched voice cut through the noise. "All right, everyone! Gather around! It's time for some fun!"

My eyes widened as I turned to face the source of the voice. Standing atop a crate in the center of the courtyard was a tiny girl, no taller than my waist. She had bright pink hair styled in pigtails and large, sparkling eyes that radiated mischief. Clad in a dress adorned with various magical charms, she exuded an aura of whimsical chaos.

"That's Loli!" Mira exclaimed, her expression shifting from confusion to incredulity. "She's an eccentric professor known for her unorthodox teaching methods."

As if on cue, Loli launched herself into the air, somersaulting over the crowd before landing gracefully on her feet. "Welcome to the Academy of Arcane Arts! Are you ready to learn the magic of fun?" she shouted, her voice bursting with energy.

The crowd erupted into cheers, and I couldn't help but laugh. "This is going to be a wild class," I said, turning to Mira.

"You have no idea," she replied, shaking her head. "Just… try to keep your head on straight. We can't afford to get into trouble again."

"Me? Trouble?" I said, feigning innocence. "Never!"

With that, Loli clapped her hands, and a burst of colorful sparks erupted around her, transforming into a myriad of small, fluttering creatures—tiny magical sprites that danced through the air. "Today, we'll be combining our elemental magic with some unexpected twists! Who wants to go first?"

Of course, the front row filled up quickly with eager students, many of whom were more than willing to risk the inevitable chaos that would ensue. I exchanged a glance with Mira, who looked both apprehensive and slightly amused.

"Should we join them?" I asked.

"Do we have a choice?" she replied, her tone dry.

Before I could answer, Loli had already zoomed over, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "You two! You look like you're ready to have some fun! Come on up!"

"Oh, great," I muttered, feeling the weight of my destiny press down on me—only to be replaced by the weight of impending embarrassment.

We climbed up to the front, and I took a deep breath. "So, what exactly are we doing?" I asked Loli, who was bouncing on her toes.

"Magic!" she squealed, pointing to the sprites. "Today, you'll each summon a sprite and make it perform a trick. But there's a catch! You must incorporate a dance move into your spell!"

Mira's expression turned serious. "A dance move? That's ridiculous!"

"Exactly!" Loli said, clapping her hands. "Magic should be fun! Now, who's going first?"

Before I could back out, I felt a gentle nudge from Loli. "Go on, Kaito! Show us what you've got!"

"Right, because nothing screams 'I'm a serious Arcane Hunter' like dancing with sprites," I grumbled, stepping forward.

With a wave of my hand, I summoned a small blue sprite, its wings shimmering in the sunlight. "Okay, little guy. Let's do this," I said, trying to keep my nerves in check.

The sprite flitted around me, clearly ready to have some fun. I took a deep breath and began to awkwardly dance, channeling my inner goofball. I waved my arms around like I was swatting at invisible flies while the sprite mimicked my movements, spinning and twirling with glee.

Laughter erupted from the crowd, and I could feel my face turning red. I tried to focus on the magic, but it was hard when I felt like a complete fool. Just as I was about to give up, the sprite let out a burst of sparkles, and with a sudden zap, the ground beneath us exploded in colorful fireworks.

The crowd roared with laughter and applause, and I couldn't help but grin despite my embarrassment.

"Good job, Kaito!" Mira shouted, trying not to laugh. "You've officially made a fool of yourself in front of everyone!"

I shot her a mock glare before stepping back, letting the next student take their turn. I was still basking in the afterglow of my unexpected success when Mira was pushed to the front.

"Come on, Mira! Show us what you can do!" Loli encouraged, practically bouncing in excitement.

Mira's cheeks flushed as she took her place. "This is ridiculous," she muttered.

As she summoned her own sprite, I watched with anticipation. Mira was all about precision and control; I was curious to see how she'd incorporate the dance move.

"Remember, it's about fun!" Loli shouted.

To everyone's surprise, Mira closed her eyes, focused, and began to sway her hips slightly, a look of concentration on her face. The sprite glowed brightly, and with an elegant flourish, it leaped into the air, spinning in a dazzling display of magic.

But then, just as she finished, a loud "POP!" echoed through the courtyard, and the sprite exploded into a shower of confetti that rained down all around us. Mira opened her eyes wide, completely taken aback.

The crowd erupted into laughter, and I couldn't help but double over, clutching my stomach. "Now that's what I call a magical surprise!" I wheezed, tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard.

Mira shot me a glare that could wither a mountain. "I hate you, Kaito."

"Love you too!" I grinned, knowing full well that today had turned into an unforgettable mess.
