I couldn't confront Anya without giving King a heads-up. While it wasn't intentional, I was deconstructing his family one person at a time. But it wasn't just that. While King wasn't family anymore, he was still a friendly acquaintance. He'd assisted us on more than one occasion. Not to mention that he had rushed to Bea's aid when she was hurt. He didn't even like Bea, but he knew she was important to me.
I made an appointment to meet King away from Heavenly Enterprises. I'd reinstated Nan's identity as promised, but that didn't mean I liked her any better. Intentionally going anywhere near her wasn't going to happen.
So, imagine my surprise when King entered the coffee shop with Nan on his arm. I froze for a full minute as I kicked myself in the ass. Here I was trying to do the ethical thing, to show King a little compassion regardless of how he treated me. And here he was once again slapping me in the face with his adultery.
