" I'm scared, Kenita please help me. He's going to kill me" Kenita, a young lady in her late twenties tightened her grip on the phone in her hand as the voice of her identical sister scrambled through, her feet up, pacing in circles.
Her morning was going casual as usual when a call prompted from her sister. With an urge of excitement, she dropped the thin brush in hand to grab the phone.
It had been long since her sister called and half of her calls to her sister were blocked, which made the call one to jump in, even at the expense of knocking the red paint off the sizable table on the reflective tiles.
"Hel.." her words are cut through by a faded pitch voice that wept out to which she responded anxiously, unease she switched the phone to her core left ear.
Quickly as she could , she phrased her body in baffle at the same time she tried to collect thoughts on what to do or at least comprehend the situation. To her knowledge, her sister wasn't in any kind of danger and she resides in the most secure community and estate with her family, her husband as known is influential with highly paranoid about the security of both himself and his family. And she could attest to it from previous conversations with her sister, so the urge of danger craved dubious and fright in her.
" Tell me where you are, and I'll have someone come to your rescue" she urged her voice out, impatiently she waited for a response from her sister. With every second of the wait she could hear her broken voice and panting breath , her hands unbalancing on what seemed to be steer.
" You can't do anything, you won't be able to save me, it's too late," her sister said from the other end in calm. Her eyes settled on the man who made a sudden appearance in front of her car with his face all masked up.
Her heart increased its pace with every step he took forward to her car. Aware of his intentions, her hands rushed to the door hand that just happened to be on rust in a moment of emergency. With a pacing heart, she took seconds of heavy breath and several jerks on the door, yet luck shadowed it glow from her. Retired her back laid back on the front seat of the car she was in, her eyes greeted the darkness as her mind took refuge in peace to her known destination.
There was no redemption, she whispered within. What was the use, she knew what she was getting into when she fell for him, if only she had known he was going to be the end of her then perhaps she would have controlled her heart or at least averted every encounter with him. But what could she have done? she was and still crazy about him though aware of his ill intentions.
Just like that, her ears grabbed in the spread of the cozy wind that passed through, flushing in a sensation of warmth and cold on her skin. Similar to that of the night breeze that flagged her bare legs and arms as she walked up to him, who caught her hands and laid blissful kisses on each. Him who vowed beautiful words of eternity and belonging to her, him who sworn protection to her.
Sillily, her lips spread out wide on those sweet memories, wishing she could go back to them and revert her every action.
Yet the cozy wind that let the leaves dance set in memory like the ones of the night she decided to open the door to her heart to him.
When she got his call earlier she thought it was all working out and their little fight was going to be resolved. She had decided to work things out with him in compromise of, whether she was at fault or not. She just couldn't stand the silence between them, but little did she know her welcome was one of plotted murder.
She was lucky to have escaped the far villain yet luck faded when he chased after her with his car to where they were. Half the thick forests of once their romantic spot.
" Don't you at least get to say goodbye to me?" She asked with eyes filled with tears, concrete she stared at his face all hidden behind the mask . Thou his eyes were nowhere to be seen behind the dark lens, she still could feel his gaze on her, that once gaze that got her melted on her knees.
Before her next words could be formed, the man in dark disguise pulled out a revolver and directed it to her gaze. Slow as the clock ticked, his fingers leveled on the trigger with a quick change of direction to her side.
She knew it was going to happen, her mind was aware of the risk she took to love a man like him yet her heart was helpless into his charms. More to it, her heart wasn't in regret to have loved him, just hurt to not see the eyes of his lover pull the bullets to her demise.
" Kemidia, Kemidia" Kenita's voice chased out on the sound of a bullet shooting out , the fear of her sister's moans that crawled in her ears repeatedly.
"Kemidia please say something, please, you're scaring me, please" she pleaded with tears settled in her eyes, her tone cracked with every second of silence from her.
"I'm running out of time, Kenita promise me you'll take care of my Lisa, I wasn't the best to her but I know you'll love her more. Please protect her and grant every desire of hers" she requested in heavy breath. Her life might have been a big mistake and there was no way she could fix it but she hoped her daughter wouldn't be the same as hers and especially she wouldn't be harmed in any way or at least she would have a fresh start of happiness and deep within she knew only her sister could give that to her.
"I promise you I'll. Now please tell me where you're I'll come there myself" Kenita begged holding back her tears, while Kemidia huffed at her silliness. It was not like she was close by or a car away. She was a plane away in another country and coming to her rescue was like a mouse thinking it could beat a cat in a fight.
"Goodbye Kenita, be careful of the nice ones" and with that, a silence came after the loud crash of the car dropping from the high feet of the mountain edge it was.
"No,no,no,no. Please don't go silent on me, please…" she crumbled on her legs as her eyes ran out.
"Please say something..Kemidia" she wept through the silent phone, again and again, she called her sister's phone, multiple times she dialed the number only to be informed it was unavailable.
And just like that Kenita was back on the grounds of her homeland, the same land she had walked off years ago. The familiarity of her home had dissolved from her years of absence . But what blame did she hold?, when all she had of home was hurtful memories, ones she wished to wipe off. It was one of her many reasons to not reach out for home warmth yet the situation got her coming back.
Just after several trials to reach her sister's line, she connected with a friend from the country to locate her sister. She was desperate for intel on her, and each second she phoned the friend for news. If she could she would have transported herself back home but it was a freezing glacier's day and all flights in the state she stayed had been canceled. Even so the following morning flight didn't miss her out. Much to her desperation, her friend sent her a message to have tracked her sister, thankfully from the advancement of technology or perhaps the friend's knowledge in the field .
" Hey beauty " she took a twirl on the flat shoe on her feet towards the familiar voice. Against her eyes went up on the feet figure that shadowed her body in that of a dwarf, but again it was nothing much of a great difference just two or less gap of height.
In a second he pulled her body into his chest and cuffed his arms on her. Her cold body felt warm and at ease to have comfort from a friend like him.
" David" she called after a release of her body.
David, a fine man of that of a wine stood in bold peach that embraced his broad shoulders out and round body out. He wasn't much of a stunned god-like figure but enough to attract the eyes of the beholder. His dark eyes graced Kenita in delight, much of a long miss of a dear friend.
Them as told, have been friends since infants, thanks to the familiarity between parents and next gate neighbors. Him by character stood as a charismatic and easy going made it much more an advantage to gain subdued Kenita's trust back as children.
Nevertheless their friendship was one to commend on, even after the years of separation, it still held firm.
"Shall we" With his words came a gestured of hands in direction to the car door he has pulled wide.
As silence as the wind that laid on her skin, she scanned through the trees that created beautiful nature view at the side paths. A quick look at the front view sent attractions of magnificent buildings of various sizes , heights and structures. A honest view of the many development that had evolved on her absence, there weren't much to admired when she left. But again fifteen years is enough to have any city outshine it old model.
"Are you okay?" Dave asked while his hands steadily steered passed a snail car that was in block of him. He stole a gaze at her from the front mirror then back on the road . He knew the look on her face displayed her tormented heart and why not, she had just lost her sister.
When he tracked the phone location as she had instructed, he was able to trace it though it was a bit tough.
The silence was one of third wheel and lucky the ride came to an end in less of twenty minutes to an hour. Her first step out of the car was a welcome of the flat villa that stood high in yellow, though the years had washed it glow out , it still lingered it once yellow out. The spacious compound now crowded in grass and unruly plants all due to the years of neglect.
It felt strange how once a happy home with great memories stood empty and worthless .
"Kenita, where are you?. Kenita"
The echoed of her sister's voice came flagging in her thoughts with each step took in the back house garden.
"Kenita, Kenita where are you" Her sister called out, waving her hands in the empty air. The Saturday noon was one to doze off in finding, as it stood as a tradition for them, together they were inseparable.
" Kenita, I can feel your breath"
"No you can't " she responded with a quick shove of her palm on her mouth.
Taking to advantage she would change the direction of the voice and even at her silence she could predict her location from her foot steps , so she would sneak her feet to direction unheard to her ears.
After several trial to catch her, her sister fell on her back in loud cry. And as that she rushed to her aid, anxiously she pulled her up in her hands weeping out.
"Kemidia, Kemidia say something. What happened to you?" and before her eyes could drain a tear Kemidia's eyes let wide laughing at her.
" Got you" she would cheered her up after a wipe of a tear that had fell from her eyes.
"Don't do that to me again, I was so scare " she had scolded pushing her sister's touch away.
"I'm sorry , don't be mad . I was just playing with you" she warmed in with a kiss on her cheek, easy as she made it, she would cuddled it out with her sister laughing.
"Kenita, you need to let go" David call jogged her out of the taint full memories.
" This is all that was left of her" David said , in watch of his friend's hands tightened on her sister's unrecognized body. The crash had left her body with little skin and flesh, all to be seen were melted oil and dark burnt. Even at his fast drive to the location , he couldn't be on time to rescue her or see who led her to the accident.
" I'm sorry I couldn't be with you, I should have been with you. I should have protected you" she said out with less tears to shed, the most had gone the hours the photos met her of her sister's dead body. Her mind was now made up for something else.
" Kemidia, you should see this" David stalked up to her with his phone screen at her direction. In display was a scene of a funeral been held, on the casket was a photo of her sister. Beside was a man in black suit, perhaps not a feet more than David. Close by was a girl , visioned to be eight or below.
"It's your sister's funeral "
How very much hypocritical of them, not even day more of the incident and a funeral was been held, even after the mysterious disappearance of the body. Not once did they queried to know much of it, the police as always showed up time they ain't needed , little investigation was done and they closed the case to be an accident.
But she far knew that it was no accident, she was at the other end of the incident , there was a guy at present of her sister's death and from conversation, it only led to one person, that was her sister's husband.
It all made sense as to why the investigation was closed just an hour of it, no media was transparent enough to detail what really happened, the truth was kept and the lies were told.
"He wants to bury his deeds so easily , I'll be sure to reveal them out".
" Have it ready, I'll give my sister the best funeral and I swear on her I'll have her serve justice even at the cost of my life" she said in much determination in her words.
The moment she decided to return home she knew her agenda wasn't only to bury her sister but to give justice to her . And by far she knew who she was up against, he was no nobody, he was the powerful man with many tricks up his sleeves, he was honored by awards, wealth and influential. To fight him was like knocking your head against a brick, even so, that wasn't gonna stop her, if he was the root of her sister's death then he was going to pay.
" What's your next plan?" David curiously questioned . As far as he knew her, she wasn't someone that goes against her words. So far he was scare she would risk her life to protect the last of her sister's memory and get the man behind her death.
" What else, am going to step into her shoe. From her death am reborn".
