Chapter 18 - Chapter 17 - Don't Die on Me, Okay?

1

It took an Erica a while to get to Patterson.

It was far easier to teleport on her own, but as Daniel kept hold of her shoulder, she suddenly felt self-conscious, like she was in some test that she was destined to fail.

'Just be calm. You done it before.' Daniel said to reassure her.

'Yeah, I know, but it's harder now.'

'Why?' Daniel asked.

'I don't know.' Erica said. 'I don't fucking know.'

'You know you found your second power.' Daniel smiled.

'What?' Erica asked confused. 'Second.'

'You're durable.'

Erica shook her head. 'I'm tough.'

'I know you are, but no ordinary human could have taken what you took earlier. Thrown through multiple walls. That's not just tough.'

'So, I'm invulnerable like you.'

'I don't know, I just know it will take a lot to take you down.' Daniel smiled at her.

This did not seem to convince Erica. She looked at Daniel and then looked up at the night sky which was clear as it could be in this part of the world. She then stared at the endless stars.

'What are we? Truly? We mutants or something?' Erica asked.

Daniel sighed. 'I couldn't answer honestly about that because honestly, I don't even know. I just know some of us, not many are born with what we can do. Born special, some say born blessed and others say, born cursed.' Daniel paused. 'Some of us know, know early, that we are different, see the world differently, feel the world differently. That it was given to us or we evolved. Some say we are descendants from the gods that ruled the earth before they went back to their realms.'

'What this Cross-Power?'

'What we all can do is our gifts at the time we really need them. Most can only use one at a time. Special ones can use cross their powers together. Make them cohesive and work together, like if a drone is firing at you and you need to be able to take the gunfire and at the same time throw a rock to take out the drone.'

Erica smiled. 'That happened to you right?'

'Way too many times.' Daniel laughed to himself. 'I've had less happy meals than drone attacks.'

'So, when I teleported,'

'Yeah, whatever you tapped into needed you to not be durable, because you may have survived, but I think cause you had that family with you, you wished to be somewhere and teleportation is now clearly one of your abilities.'

Erica looked back at the stars again. 'Shit.' She took a couple of deep breaths 'How many of us are out there?'

'Bolton would be better to give an answer to that question. Probably not as much as you think or I think.'

Erica nodded.

'Erica,' Daniel said and she looked at him. 'You can do this. Think of Engrave. I'm going to be fine.'

'What if I lose you in whatever thing go into?' Erica said with real concern.

'You won't. Think of there and get us there.'

Erica looked more convincing as she nodded at Daniel. She closed her eyes and in her head was the grassy plain across the car park at Engrave.

'You got it?' Daniel asked.

The vision was clear and she smiled. 'Yeah, I got it.'

'Then let's,'

Erica gripped his shoulder and leapt forward into the blue void with endless clouds and stars that wrapped all around the both of them. Daniel looked behind and saw that the car park had long disappeared as comets flew past in the distance and then the grassy plain and the car park surged towards them and was in front of them as their feet landed on the wet grass.

It must have rained earlier.

They were both breathing furiously. Both looked almost deliriously happy.

'How…was…. That?' Erica said.

'Exhilarating.' Daniel panted and laughed. 'I'm infinitely jealous you got that power.'

A black Sedan pulled into the car park and parked in one of the executive spots right near the front entrance.

Daniel and Erica, hid behind some bushes to their left as the car pulled in.

They watched as three men who wore black suits walked in and each passed a card into a reader and the building just shimmered and rippled, various colours that were translucent now appeared as they three walked in the door closed. The building them rained down with waves and multiple colours from top to bottom.

'That's a force field.'

'Yeah, and we need to get past it.'

'How and we have got no warrant to search his place.'

Daniel shook his head. 'We don't need a warrant.'

'They have laws here Daniel. If we get caught.'

'Fuck the long game, Erica. Fuck it. Something is going on there and why I'm still pumping from today, I'm going to get in there and see what the hell is going on.' Daniel said the intensity a man who no more patience would show.

'And how we going to get in there? You got one of those cards they got that you can magic from your ass?'

'No.'

'Then how?'

Daniel smiled and looked at Erica.

'How the fuck do you think I can get through a force field, what would see to be man-made.'

'That's it man-made.' Daniel said. 'If it was magic, then we would have a problem.'

'How am I going to teleport there when I haven't even been,' She paused as she already had the answer to the question she was about to put out into the world. 'Harris's office. I've been in there.'

'Yes, you have. Have you got a clear picture?'

'Yes, I do.' Erica smiled.

'Okay then,' Daniel's irises went grey. He looked at the building. The radar waves took control of his vision. He could see a lift enter his vision from below the building and go up to the top floor. The lift doors opened and it was Oliver Harris with those three men just came into the office walked into his office and shut the door. He spoke with the three men who muttered something he could not hear, but suddenly cloaks attached with hoods came over and behind them.

'Greycloaks.' Daniel said in his own world.

'What?' Erica asked, 'What is it?'

Daniel looked down but could not see underground.

Where did he come from?

'Bridgewater. Daniel!'

'Yeah?' Daniel snapped out and his irises remained grey.

'Your eyes.'

'They do that sometimes.' Daniel said.

'Where they fuck were you just now?'

'Oliver Harris in there.'

'Late night meeting.'

'He's meeting with some Greycloaks.'

'You sure?'

'Positive.' Daniel said. 'We're going to wait until they are,'

Daniel looked at saw the Greycloaks disappear into thin air and then they reappeared downstairs on the ground level as the door opened and the ripples began once again as the three men walked out as each of their cloaks disappeared before they got the Sedan. Once in the sedan started and drove off.

'Gone.' Daniel said.

'I know I'm going to regret this, but there's no time like the present. Let's go.'

2

Oliver Harris sat on his chair and rubbed his eyes.

It was a long day and this had turned out to be a long night. He wanted to be home and call any one of the women had on his phone to come over, but what would that do?

It would be a short-term solution to a long-term problem.

Suddenly before his very eyes Daniel Bridgewater and Erica Chandler appeared in front of him.

Oliver almost jumped out of his own skin.

'What the fuck?' Oliver said in total shock. 'What the fuck are you doing here?'

'We missed you. Thought we would see you again. Plus, I wanna keep my promise about feeding your henchman's guns.' Daniel said.

'Let me call the police. B and E is a serious crime round here.'

'The only thing that will be broken is your neck if you don't answer any of the questions I'm about to ask.' Daniel said.

'Threating behaviour too. You're just adding to laundry list of laws you have broken Bridgewater.'

'Well, we learn from the best and right now you're the best we got.' Erica said.

'You too should be looking for the man in black. The you know, Killer of multiple people in city.'

'Oh, you mean Marco Reilly, right?' Daniel said.

Oliver gave nothing away.

'That name mean anything to you, Mr Harris?' Erica asked.

Oliver shook his head. 'Never heard of him.'

'Oh, I think you have.' Daniel said.

'Thinking something and proving something are two fundamentally different things. I would have thought that was something they taught you at whatever bullshit cadet school you both went to.' Oliver smirked.

'Next question. Where did you come from?'

Oliver smiled. 'If I said your mother's house, would you think I that was juvenile or would you even believe me?'

Daniel smiled and then he laughed. 'I'm sorry, I must have blacked out there. What did you say?'

'You heard what the fuck I said, Bridgewater. No need to repeat it.'

'Honest to god,' Daniel said as he walked around the table, 'I didn't hear it. Please repeat. It might be pertinent to our case.'

'What? Me having sex with your mother because that would be.'

Daniel flung the table across the room and grabbed Oliver by the neck and off the ground. He slammed him hard into the wall. He did not even break a sweat. 'You know, I kind of respect you, Harris. I respect you for having the outright temerity to say what you said, repeat what you said, with your chest puffed out like you were going to do something. I respect the audacity. But now we're in the pain game.'

'Daniel.' Erica said.

'Only you and I are playing this game. I hurt you, you see how much you can take. Either way. I win.'

'Daniel.'

Daniel watched Oliver's face as little by little, Daniel had squeezed the throat of air. Robbing Oliver of that pleasure.

'DANIEL!' Erica shouted.

'WHAT?' Daniel yelled back as he turned to look at Erica.

'Look,' Erica said as she looked at Oliver's hand.

Daniel looked there as well and he saw that Oliver's hand was pressed on a handheld button. It there were two lights on the button. It went from green to RED.

Daniel's irises went grey. He could see that armed guards were running into the lift and were heading up to the top floor.

Oliver looked and smiled. 'Yooooou might be protected, but she's I don't she can bounce bullets off her. Plussss, it's protection as you are on myyyyy property.'

'What's down there?'

'That's none of your fucking concern Bridgewater.'

'Everything you do is my concern, Harris. What's down there?'

Erica took out her gun. 'Bridgewater. We need to go now.'

'Oh, we're going somewhere alright.' Daniel went into the inside pockets of Oliver and took out a grey coloured swipe card. 'Thanks.'

'No, you don't know what you are doing.'

'I know, isn't it fun?' Daniel said.

Erica faced the door and her gun was aimed at the door. 'Bridgewater what are we going to do.'

Daniel looked down and went into the various levels below, through offices and laboratories and then to a room below. A room with a long narrow hallway leading into it. In that room was a lift. The same lift Daniel saw him come up from earlier.

'Daniel what the fuck are we going to do?' Erica yelled that question out.

Daniel flung Oliver into the wall as the ping of a lift came from outside. 'Clear your mind.' He placed his hand on her shoulder. 'You see what I see?'

Erica's irises went grey as well. Her vision turned into grey radar like waves that formed into clear images as well. 'Yeah.'

'You see the hallway? The long narrow one?'

'Yeah.'

'Get there now.'

'Okay.' She yelled and then they both disappeared as the guards came in by kicking the door down and then guns first.

They looked around and saw a table that was flipped over and Oliver slumped on the floor as he clutched his neck and thankful to be able to get air down his throat.

They looked at Oliver and he looked at them.

'WHAT ARE YOU STANDING THERE FOR? THEY'VE GONE TO THE LIFT!!!!'

3

Erica and Daniel appeared in the middle of that long hallway.

Two armed guards turned as they appeared and fired their guns at the pair. Daniel stood in front of Erica and walked forward, taking the gun fire. Bullets hit and dropped to the floor. Erica crept behind Daniel. Then teleported behind the guard to the left, grabbed the arm he fired from and flung him to the ground.

The other guard turned and went to fire, but Erica teleported behind him and used to butt of her gun and slammed into the back of the guard with all the force she could muster. He dropped to the ground.

The guard that Erica dropped prior reached for his gun but was met with a swift kick to the chest from Daniel. He left the ground and slammed into the wall. He collapsed in a messy heap once the ground.

'I can't even think of the laws we just broken.' Erica said.

'I try not to think about laws.' Daniel said as he walked past her.

'I know.'

Daniel took the card he had taken from Oliver and used it swipe across the card reader. The lift doors opened and they entered.

The selection of buttons was on the left and they listed G, B, LG, LLG & SC

'SC it is.' Daniel said and pressed the button. The doors closed in front of them.

The lift jerked and then moved down. As they moved further and further down is lift shook a little.

Erica breathed in. She looked as focused as she has ever looked.

Daniel noticed this and took out his gun. 'Be prepared for anything.'

Erica nodded and exhaled some air as they went past LLG. The lift became more unsteady as they entered and went into a sudden stop when SC was met.

The doors opened and they were met with a rocky floor. Daniel and Erica stepped out and they were in caverns, far deep underground.

'What the fuck.' Erica said.

They walked down a slope with lamps electrical lamps all connected by long wires dotted all around. They got to the end of the slope that they were on. The caverns stretched almost endlessly. Rock columns, entrance or exit holed tunnels going all sort of directions. They were over a central plain that split into various tunnels, but that was not what got their attention.

At the central plain, were a group of men in white coats, and wore safety glasses. They were behind what looked a laser on a mount. It was pointed at hole between two of the central tunnels.

The laser was on and a blue beam came from the laser and was fired into the hole and a blue portal was slowly being opened.

Daniel heard his heart beat fast and deep industrial humming noise echoed across his ears. He suddenly lost all the power in his legs and fell to the ground.

'Daniel.' Erica ran over and tried pick him up. 'What's going on?'

'I have, I have no clue. I can't seem to power or move my legs.' Daniel said under great duress.

He could see that whatever that portal was opening, waves of light and energy emanated out of it and hit him and every time he was hit with these waves, he got weaker and his breaths became heavier.

'I don't know what to do.' Erica said. 'I don't know what to do.'

'Erica,' Daniel said under deep exaggerated breaths, 'you need to get out of here. Tell Royce and Bolton what you just saw.'

'No way! No fucking way I'm leaving you here.'

'Erica,' Daniel said as words were getting harder to come out of his mouth, 'please you have to go now.'

'I am not leaving you here alone.'

'Good.' Oliver said as he came out with those same armed guards who burst into his office. 'You can die together.'

'What have you done to him?' Erica yelled at Oliver who looked at Daniel who looked more worse for wear by the second.

Oliver laughed to himself. 'No way. You're one of them Bridgewater. You're actually one of them.'

'One of what?' Daniel spat out those words.

'Realmers. You're actually one of them.' Oliver said, 'This is actually killing you.'

Daniel clutched Erica's jacket. 'Leave Erica.'

'No.'

'He's useless, you can leave him to die.' Oliver said, 'but she also broke in so shoot her. We'll use the stand your ground law.'

The armed guards raised their guns and aimed.

Erica looked at Daniel and shook her head.

By the time the first shot came, Erica had already disappeared into thin air and behind the man fired into and kicked his inside in and he buckled in pain. The other men turned and fired at Erica who disappeared and reappeared between the two guards, rammed an elbow into one and punch into the other.

A bullet whistled past her face as more armed guards came from the lift. Erica darted left and disappeared into thin air and reappeared in front of the guard that shot at her with full power and sent two of the guards into the rocky wall.

A guard screamed and ran towards her firing his machine gun. She teleported onto the wall and sprang off mid-air, teleported behind him, swept kicked him and knocking him to the ground and she flung a swift left hook to knock him clean out.

Four more guards and one aimed a shot and it grazed Erica's arm. The hit made Erica spin and landed hard to the ground. That same guard aimed to take another shot but was hit hard in the head with a rock that thrown from Daniel's direction.

Erica leapt up into the air and teleported, appearing in the middle of the group, and taking each of them out, by kicks, punches, as she disappeared and reappeared between them, sometimes in mid-air and other times on the ground, she was a blur of violence on those men and when they saw her it was too late. They were on the ground and out cold.

Erica looked at Oliver who walked towards Daniel.

'I heard you flicked an officer across a room full of cops. I think of his humiliation and how someone like you gave that to him. Now look at you Bridgewater. Weak. You are a weak man. Look at you without your power. All that strength. How long have you thought you were better? How long did you think you were a god?' Oliver said as he picked up Daniel who could barely stand, but still threw a punch that Oliver saw from last week and he ducked the slow punch and rammed punch of his own into Daniel's kidneys.

Daniel's knees did not need to punch to buckle him, but it made the process faster and harder. Oliver picked him up and through a left hook that connected with the right side of Daniel's jaw, he held onto Daniel who folded back and Oliver pulled him forward and threw straight right and caught him on the forehead.

This was would normally bounce off Daniel, but he fell like a tree in the woods. Stiff and straight.

'You are no god Bridgewater. I've seen a few and they would not be weak like this.'

'PUT YOUR FUCKING HANDS UP!' Erica screamed and aimed her gun. 'I'M NOT GOING TO TELL YOU AGAIN HARRIS!'

'Sure.' He raised his right hand and pulled down the sleeve.

Erica out of instinct fired a shot at Oliver.

'Tel-Vican –Partos.' Oliver said and the bullet faded into dust. The bracelet on his right wrist glowed purple and blue.

Erica looked in total shock.

'Oh, you are fucked now.' Oliver said as Erica emptied a full clip at Oliver, but each bullets faded into dust. 'Why did you think that would happen a second time? Like you saw the first bullet turn into dust. I mean, you are quite stupid.'

Erica teleported to the left side of Oliver and slammed a punch into his solar plexus. He tried a spin punch, but Erica had already teleported to his right-hand side and slammed another punch to his side. She leapt into the air and teleported around him and kicked him in the chest and back at every angle possible.

He fell to the ground but sprang up. 'Impressive, but now it is my turn.' He looked around and said, 'Arrestum.'

Erica appeared and was in front of Oliver as she looked like she was about to leapt in and punch him, but now she was held in the air, but she also could not move.

'They say you can't hit a woman. But they also say that it cannot be equal in this world without equal treatment. You hit me several times. Now I must do the same to you.' Oliver said and backslapped Erica, who could not move. Then slapped her a few times. 'Stupid fucking bitch.' The slaps turned into punches now and then he opened his right hand and pushed it forward. This sent Erica hurtling into the rocky wall hard and she met the ground with equally painful proclivity.

Erica tried to get up but was met with a kick to her chest by Oliver and it winded her.

'I was the kicker as well in our team.' Oliver slammed another kick into her chest. 'I never missed one.' He kicked her again and again she met the ground in pain. 'I always loved the pressure moments, you know. The championship game, play-offs, all of that. My foot never missed.' He aimed another kick at Erica, who turned and blocked it. She then launched an uppercut into the groin of Oliver Harris, who screamed out in pain himself.

As he dropped to his knees, Erica caught him with a forearm and elbow and knocked him to the ground. She scurried to the ground, the gash that was plastered had now been opened again and blood had started to trickle out. She spat some blood as she reached for her gun, but Oliver grabbed her ponytail and yanked her hard into the ground.

'Alotos.' Oliver said and Erica was thrown high into the cavern ceiling and barely missed a pointed, jutted rock.

Erica crashed to the ground, but again slowly got up as another kick to the ribs from Oliver made her stay down.

'You are durable, Agent Chandler.'

Daniel screamed and ran into Oliver, who fell to the ground with Daniel. That seemed to use all the spent energy that Daniel had as Oliver got up first and threw a punch, which was blocked by Daniel, then another that was blocked. Daniel threw a punch back and connected, but not in the way that he wanted or Oliver expected.

This did not deter Daniel, who set himself to throw another one when Oliver uttered 'Arrestum.'

Daniel could not move and slowly rose in the air as gravity around him seemed to vacate and leave him floating.

Oliver spat out some blood and smiled. His teeth and gums were filled with blood. He spat out some more. 'So, she told you, eh? She spilled her guts.'

'Leave her.' Daniel said.

'Alyssa Drysdale? No, I don't think so.' Oliver walked around the floating Daniel Bridgewater. 'She signed her death warrant the moment she made the unwise choice of not being smart enough to keep her mouth shut.' He kept on walking and spat some more blood. He looked at Erica, who was unmoved from his current position. 'If you fucking cracked a tooth botch, I'm going to have your fucking head on stick.'

'Who taught you magic?'

'Your mother. She was magic in the bedroom. Whores usually are.' Oliver said. 'What the fuck are you going to do about that now, Bridgewater? Your mother, who was a good fuck from all accounts, fucked me real good. She taught me magic in ways many women could never even attempt to do.'

'I'm going to enjoy killing you.' Daniel grimaced through the pain.

'How is that possible, Bridgewater when I'm going to watch you die here in the air, helpless as a vagina was in the seventeenth century?' Oliver smiled and laughed. 'I bet you feel it, don't you? Those waves fucking up your molecules, turning you into a normal fucking man and not the freak you were born into. That those waves are destroying any resistance and taking any morsel of your life away. How are you going to save yourself now?'

CRACK

Oliver hit the ground as Erica slammed a rock into his head.

Daniel fell to the ground and clutched his chest.

'He needed to shut the fuck up.' Erica said as she checked the rock away. She noticed that Daniel looked weaker than before and he clutched his chest. She ran over to him. 'Don't you die on me, okay? Don't you fucking do it.'

Daniel tried and failed to nod. He could muster a smile.

'There you are.' Erica smiled back.

'Get us out of here.' Daniel said with almost a gargle.

The lift door opened and some of the Greycloaks entered the caverns with weapons.

Erica thought of her room at the motel and had it clear in her mind. She grabbed Daniel and disappeared before the first couple of bullets hit the spot where they were.

Two of the Greycloaks went over to Oliver, who slowly got up, but the back of his head bled profusely.

One of them placed Oliver's hand at the back of his head and said, 'Speak the words.'

'Relaq-Repair.' Oliver said and the wound closed and the blood stopped.

'What happened?' The Greycloak asked.

'I almost killed Bridgewater, that's what.' Oliver said. 'I was so damn close.'

'So, they know what's going on here?'

'Maybe they do, but we have to make sure that doesn't make a smidge of difference. We have to go on the offensive now.' Oliver said. 'We are too close to our objective to fail now.'

4

Erica laid Daniel on her bed and clicked her ear. 'I need ALEXANDER BOLTON NOW!'

She waited a moment and then the mirror rippled and the image of Alexander Bolton appeared in front of her. He was sitting in his office. He looked tired.

'Agent Chandler.' Bolton said as he wiped his eyes. 'How can I help?'

'It's Daniel, sir; he's hurt.'

Bolton immediately looked surprised. 'Bridgewater?'

'Yeah, I think he is dying.'

'Tell me what happened now.' Bolton said with clear, worried tone.

Erica explained all about the caves and Harris and when Daniel entered the caves and how he felt.

Bolton nodded all the way through. He pressed a nearby call button. 'This is code red. Get the potion Vexten made immediately!' He looked at Erica. 'Erica, I need you to calm down. I need you to tell me how he is now?'

Erica looked. Daniel looked lifeless on her bed. 'Not moving, sir.'

'His heart beating?'

Erica checked his chest, placing her head right where she could hear his heartbeat. 'It's faint, but it is there.'

There was a buzz from Bolton's screen.

'Yes?' He asked as he pressed the same button he pressed before.

'We got it.'

'Send it now to Chandler's location.' Bolton said, 'You good at catch?'

'Eh, I don't know.' Erica said, confused.

'You need to be because it is going to come right now and you need to not spill a drop of it. Understand?'

'Yes.' Erica said and immediately after she replied, the bottle dropped from a portal and Erica had to dive herself across the room and catch it.

No drop was spilled.

'Good catch. Give him the potion. Open his mouth and just pour it in.' Bolton said and Erica got up slowly. Guided the portion bottle slowly with care, opened Daniel's mouth, unscrewed the top and poured it slowly until all was gone.

'This good?' Erica said barely in breath.

'It's good.'

'What's the Vexen potion?'

'It should counteract what ever was coming from that portal. It will knock him out for the night. But by the morning, by the sky being in full light, he should be fine.' Bolton said and he looked relieved himself.

Erica sat down and then lied down next to Daniel, who was out for the count. She then realised that she could not share the same bed as him so she had to go to his room and teleport herself there once she got bandages to cover up her wounds with.

Erica yawned before she walked into the bathroom and patched herself up. She spat out some blood and she felt her side. She then took off her top and saw the bruising on both her ribs.

'Fucker.' She said out loud when she thought about Oliver.

She dabbed some tissue on the gash, washed off the dried blood that trailed down her cheek and then put a plaster on the gash. She nodded to herself. They barely hit her face. She did not allow them to.

Erica walked back to the main room and noticed that half his room was neat and tidy and the other half was a little messy. Clothes were neatly packed. Files were spread across the one table. She walked over to the table and one file caught her eye. Erica did not just peak, she sat down and looked through the file, which was dominated by a man named Roman Wallace. He looked like a man in his late fifties, early sixties, but built like a man decades younger. He was broad, wore a leather jacket and looked mixed-race.

He also had a permanent scowl across the various pictures that were on the file. She kept on flicking through the file, which had maps of regions across the world, phone records and printed off emails.

Daniel was clearing hunting this man, Erica thought. Why? Why him?

She flicked through more pages and then stopped at set of family photos. They all looked at old, blown up polaroids of a black family. There were a lot of pictures of a black woman and what looked like her son.

Erica figured once she looked closer at the young boy that this could have been a ten- or eleven-year-old Daniel Bridgewater. She recognised this by the smile. On the brief times that she saw it. She knew that was him. She was taken aback at how young he was and how happy he looked. She kept on going through the pictures. A young Daniel Bridgewater with other children his age. They all looked around fourteen.

There were a lot of pictures of Daniel and three other children. A black boy and girl and mixed-race girl. They looked like they were all over the world. Pictures in front of the golden gate bridge in San Francisco and in front or in the great wall of China. Then she saw another picture. One of a young Daniel Bridgewater and a younger Alexander Bolton.

They looked weirdly, as according to the current interactions that she had seen or heard between them, very, very close. The relief that was evident on Bolton's face as Erica fed him that potion became obvious and very, very clear.

This was a relationship that had spanned decades and it looked like that this was the only relationship that Daniel had left.

In all those pictures, there was one consistent thing; Daniel Bridgewater looked happy. He looked his age; like any other child, he looked like he did not have a worry in the world. Hell, despite being an American by birth, had never even been anywhere near California in her life.

This made Erica smile.

Daniel Bridgewater had certainly lived a life and it was clear that he had buried a lot. There was a lot to ask, but it is something she could never do, as she had only just gotten used to him calling her Erica and then the door knocked.

'Who is it?' Erica asked.

There was no answer. Only another knock.

'Who is it?' Erica asked again as she took out gun and took the safety off. 'Listen fucker, I've had a long night, I'm tired, I'm pissed off and I'm armed. Those are three fucking things, that you don't want to fuck with so you answer me right now or leave before I come out there and do something to you that will fuck up both our lives. Now I'm willing to do it, cause I no longer have any fucks to give and I'm tired, but I must ask, are you?'

No answer again. Just a knock once again.

Come in then. I'm still awake. Erica thought as she crept closer and closer to the door. She slowly grabbed the door handle and then sprung out gun aimed as fast as she did earlier in this event filled day. She span left and then right, but no one was in front of her. The cold night air hit her face. She moved out from her room and into the outside world. She had to get a better look of what or who was out there.

Maybe it had been a long day and with so many things that had happened, maybe she heard things that were not there. Her body had started to relax as only some cars parked and the interstate were in front of her.

Her body started to relax and then put her gun to the side, and this came at the worst time. She could feel him float down behind her and Erica had no time to react as her feet were slightly off the ground and the invisible force had already clasped her neck. #

'Marco.' Erica said.

Marco looked surprised as he led back into her room and shut the door behind him. 'Who told you?'

Erica stayed silent; she just looked at him.

'It doesn't matter.' Marco said. 'Where is he?'

'Where is,'

'Don't act stupid. Where is Bridgewater?' Marco asked with a little more intensity.

'Why do you want to know?'

Marco smiled. He took off his hood. 'You've seen me already. I don't have to hide with you. I do need to speak to Mr Bridgewater. We have stuff to talk about.'

'You can talk to me about it? Why did you kill,'

Erica was shaken aggressively in the air and her body was yanked side to side, which caused her pain.

'I don't need to talk to you. I don't want to talk to you. I want to talk to him.' He looked to the right. At the wall. Marco smiled. 'He in your room?'

Erica stayed silent.

'You two banging fucking boots on the job?' Marco asked, and he tried not to laugh but had a wry smile.

Erica again stayed silent.

'Your silence is not going to help this situation. I know now because you ain't given an alternate location that he is in there.'

'Leave him alone.' Erica said as she continued to struggle in the air.

'I'll let him be the judge of that and what he wants or doesn't want.' Marco said. 'I'm affable guy.'

'You're a killer.'

'A lot of us are affable. It's how we blend in.' Marco said in jest, but to Erica, that sounded like a perfect description of who he was. 'Sorry about this.'

Erica already knew what was coming and when she flung into a wall for the fourth time this day as she landed on the floor, she thought before her head went into the realm of the unconscious that at least the day started and ended the same. Horribly consistent.

Marco left the room and then broke into Erica's room. He looked at the unconscious body of Daniel Bridgewater.

Marco checked if he was still alive and saw that Daniel's chest moved up and down. He lifted off the bed with his telekinesis, slowly moved to the door and outside the motel. Then flew himself and Daniel high into the night sky.
