Chapter 2 - Dinner

Anna's POV

We came out of the grandfather's room and I was relieved immediately. I hate that I had deceived the old man but there is nothing I can do anyways.

"Where are we going?" I asked Nicholas in panic as he led me by the hand further into the house instead of back outside the way they way we came.

"We are waiting for dinner" he responded and stopped in front of a room.

"What?

Dinner?, this is not what you said before we came here" I asked in disbelief, he was starting to be a jerk.

He opened the door to the room and gestured for me to go inside.

Locking the door after we got inside he stood in front of me, his expression back to normal and eyes as cold as ever.

Our hands are also no longer intertwined and all the fake smiles out of the way.

"This was not what we discussed, you said we only wanted to meet him" I argued not ready to back down.

It was enough that I had agreed to come here with him but staying for dinner was absurd.

"The sooner you stop asking questions, the easier it will be for us.

I paid to have your service for a week, you will do as I say for that period.

I said we are meeting him, having dinner with him is also meeting him" Nicholas said through gritted teeth.

"Now I understand why you had hired me, I bet no one can withstand your cold attitude" I said, clicking my tongue in disgust.

He had walked close to the door before I talked but he turned back suddenly and pin me to the wall.

"What the fuck are you doing?!" I asked in shock as I struggled to breath with his hand wrapped around my neck strangling me.

"Make such a comment again and you won't like what I will do" he said and let me go.

I fell to the ground still in shock.

The dinner was another complete shock, and my jaw almost fell to the ground when we walked into the room of people around a large table.

The sound of discussion around the table immediately stopped when they saw us walk in.

Dinner was yet to be served but the maids were ready to do so.

The expression on everyone's face had changed.

This is not going to be an easy dinner, I pondered biting on my lower lip.

Nicholas pulled out a seat for me and gently helped me sit down comfortably.

The act has resumed, I noticed.

Eyes around the table watched us and I noticed the hostile look on a middle aged woman sitting close to a man that bore close resemblance to Nicholas.

This must be his father, I thought.

And the woman, his mother.

"I'm glad both of you decided to stay for dinner, welcome to the Chester family young lady" the grandfather commented and finally all attention left us.

The atmosphere around the table became tense and no one said anything until the dinner was over.

I could barely keep down a few bites of food, I could feel a pair of eyes on me while I was eating and my gaze landed on his sister glaring at me.

Oh c'mon!

The dinner was finally over and I quietly prayed for a quick exit but the universe had a different plan because a voice spoke up.

"You should have let us know you were bringing your girlfriend over, son.

Are you trying to make us look bad? ".

Nicholas's Mother asked.

"Hello Miss, welcome to the Chester family. I am Selina Chester and this is my husband and my daughter Jennifer and daughter in-law" Selina introduced, gesturing towards the rest of the people around the table.

"What do your parents do dear?" She asked and I knew I cannot escape anytime soon.

I nudged Nicholas for some help with the question.

I had left home a few years ago, there was no way I would tell them who or what my parents really do.

"They are business owners," I replied, my voice shaking a little bit.

Get a grip Anna!

"That's good" the grandfather commented and Selina's face dropped.

She looked dissatisfied but could not ask me anything anymore, the grandfather had ruined her plan.

"Are you staying the night?" Selina pressed on, forcing a smile at me.

How exhausting it must be to live with these people, I thought.

Feeling extremely exhausted by the drama going on.

"Yes, she is and We would like to go to bed early. So excuse us" Nicholas replied and my eyes widened in horror.

There is no way he just said that! No!.

"What do you mean by staying for the night?" I asked in confusion as soon as we walked out of the dining room.

At this point I'm not ready to give up, things are escalating quickly.

"We are staying the night, it's late" He replied nonchalantly.

"Late? It isn't even 7pm yet. I can get a taxi to take me back now." I argued.

He ignored my argument and led me into the room we were in before dinner.

"See, you really need to stop asking questions.

We will be here for the night and that's it.

What is difficult for you to understand" He said coldly and left.

"Maybe if you were in my shoes you would understand!" I wanted to say to him but let it go.

He was more unreasonable than I thought.

The real problem comes when it is time to sleep.

"Are you also going to sleep here?

Can't we have a seperate room?" I asked in fear.

The room has just a single bed, the idea of us in the same room all night suddenly made my thoughts run wild.

"Couples don't stay in separate rooms and since we are a couple tonight we will share this room" he responded with his back turned to me.

I moved back slowly, using my hands to cover my chest in fear.

"You have nothing to be scared of, I'm not that desperate to take advantage of you." He said in disgust at my reaction.

"Just keep to your words" I warned in frustration, staring at the bed we would be sharing.

We slept on the opposite sides of the bed with pillows between us, it was all I could come up with.

The following morning I woke up feeling restricted. I was about to struggle free when I realized the strangeness of my sleeping position.

I opened my eyes slowly and I felt a hand around my body.

Nicholas and I had cuddled up in our sleep.

Gently leaning up to stare at him, he was still deeply asleep.

His face looks so peaceful and relaxed, tracing a finger across the features.

My eyes stopped on his lips and I wondered what it would feel like against mine.

"You know it's rude to stare at someone for this long," he said suddenly, and I froze.

I have been caught!, I scream in my head.

"I'm sorry" I said softly and moved to stand up but he suddenly flipped me over.

My eyes widened in shock.

Hovering above me, his eyes roamed around my face.

"Can you see me better now?

He asked and I felt my cheeks heat up in embarrassment.

"Ah!" I screamed as I suddenly fell off the bed.

"What was that for?" I yell in frustration.

Ignoring me, he went into the bathroom.

"That arrogant piece of shit".

I thought in pain as I stood up from the ground.

We left the Chester's residents a while later, both of us had not spoken a word to each other since the incident on the bed.

"Maybe you should try being nice sometimes, even animals are nice to each other" I said to him when he dropped me off.

I shouldn't have signed an agreement with him.

He is difficult to work with, I hate him with everything in me.
