Chapter 8 - A Spellcaster's Ambition

Opening the gate of the Hall of Combat, I walked towards the small garden which was my teacher, Charles's, favorite place to spend his relaxing time.

Seeing me, my teacher asked in a casual tone, "Hmm, you just went out half an hour ago. Why are you back already? Don't you want to take a walk considering you've been locked up in this place for a week?"

Holding my head in guilt, I told my teacher the truth about what had just happened.

"Teacher, actually I just made a bit of a commotion outside."

Hearing that, one of my teacher's eyebrows raised as he asked me what I had done.

I started to tell everything starting from the incident in the cafeteria to the results of the duel in the arena.

After telling him what had happened, my teacher just laughed out loud. Far from my expectation that he would be angry because of the problem I caused. I thought he would lecture me about my arrogant attitude and such.

Knowing what I was thinking, my teacher asked, "Are you confused as to why I just laughed and didn't scold you?"

I nodded and my teacher, Charles, began to give me a little lesson on the true meaning of being a Spellcaster.

Spellcaster is a term for someone who can cast spells to create an effect beyond human reason, which is called magic. That alone distinguishes ordinary humans and those who have the title of Spellcaster.

If ordinary people have pride and self-respect, of course, Spellcasters also have it. That is the reason why my teacher was not angry at my actions but was also proud because I had shown the pride and self-respect of a spellcaster.

Not only that, my teacher was also happy because not only did one Hall of Combat student manage to defeat fifty other hall students, but he was also happy because I didn't immediately become big-headed because of my victory.

"After seeing that student named Lichtalia, you must have understood that your abilities are still very shallow. You may be able to defeat many of the little guys, but it is still difficult for you as you are now to defeat an elite spellcaster, considering the amount of mana available in your body is very small compared to the average spellcaster."

"Don't worry, you are lucky to have a teacher like me. I will guide you to become a great spellcaster. But before that, I want to ask you a question and I hope you think carefully about the answer to my question. Tell me what is your ambition as a spellcaster?"

"My ambition?"

I was stunned to hear my teacher's question. Previously, I just wanted to escape from the title of the worst loser and hoped to be recognized as a genius. But was that my ambition? I felt that it was not an ambition but a desire that born because of the pain of the insults I had received so far.

What exactly is my ambition as a spellcaster?

"You should think about that from now because very spellcaster needs an ambition to keep moving forward."

My teacher realized that he wouldn't get an answer anytime soon, so he told me that before walking away.

I, who was sitting and thinking about my teacher's question, immediately got up after hearing a bell ring at the gate of the Hall of Combat. It must be Lichtalia considering I told her where I lived in the arena.

When I came out of the hall, the girl was already standing in front of the gate waiting for me.

"Wow, you really live here, Ace. I thought this place was abandoned long ago and there are no teaching and learning activities here."

I smiled and replied, "You're almost right, Class Prefect. Right now, only my teacher and I live in this place. Besides, didn't you come her because you wanted to tell me something?"

"Ah, I almost forgot to tell you. They've all regained consciousness in the infirmary but they refuse to be expelled from the academy. They argue that their defeat to you is not in accordance with the rules of a duel between spellcasters because you attacked them using physical force."

I couldn't hold back my laughter when I heard that.

"Aren't you one of the six elites? Surely they have to accept the decision after their defeat by me."

Lichtalia nodded but gave little explanation of what happened after I left the arena.

It turns out that after the news of the fifty spellcasters being expelled after their defeat against me began to spread, some people were unhappy. One of them was the elite of the Hall of Summon. Many of their students were also expelled because they did not have time to summon their familiar to join the battle after being hit once by me.

Besides that, there are also former elite from the Hall of Conjure who take the opportunity in this drama to collaborate with the elite from the Hall of Summon to bring down the good name of Lichtalia, who is considered unworthy of holding the title of elite because she has tarnished the rules of the duel.

Because the conflict that occurred involved two of the six elites, the teachers chose to remain neutral and the students chose to watch and enjoy the drama that occurred.

I couldn't help but laugh after hearing that. It seems even the academy elites are scheming against each other. What a dirty move. Is this what is called dirty politics?

"Class Prefect, can you show me the way to meet them?"

Lichtalia nodded. On our way to the infirmary, she asked me a question with an expression that full of curiosity, "This time the conflict has involved the elites. What will you do next, Ace?"

As usual, I smiled and replied, "I didn't expect that getting rid of a few small fry would actually attract big fish. It seems that elite title isn't as great as people say. It's simple, if they don't accept it, then all I need to do is do the same thing to them."

Looking at the infirmary that was getting closer, my usual smile turned cold in a second.
