Chapter 30 - Home again, so soon.

The sun streamed through the tall windows of my dormitory, casting a warm glow over the room. I woke up not feeling drowsy, as always; fatigue had become a foreign concept to me since my reincarnation. The sounds of footsteps echoed outside, a symphony of hurried movements and hushed conversations filtering into my consciousness.

I swung my legs over the side of the bed, the coolness of the wooden floor sending a shiver up my spine. After a brief moment of stretching, I made my way to the bathroom. A quick wash and a splash of cold water on my face were all I needed to refresh myself. I took a moment to look in the mirror, adjusting my jet-black hair and ensuring I looked the part of a prince.

For my return to the castle, I dressed in royal attire: a tailored suit-like bottom that fit snugly, paired with a velvet jacket reminiscent of the uniforms worn by French soldiers. The deep crimson color suited my status, reflecting the nobility I had inherited.

After dressing, I picked up my briefcase, which contained my few belongings—just a couple of changes of clothes and some personal items. I preferred it that way; I had no desire for unnecessary clutter.

Stepping outside, I was greeted by the sight of most students already up and moving around the vast school grounds. Some stood at the large gates, their expressions a mixture of excitement and trepidation, almost like prisoners anticipating release. I waited for about three minutes, taking in the scene as friends exchanged hurried goodbyes, their voices rising and falling in the crisp morning air.

It was then that I noticed two figures approaching me: a tall elf with delicate features and a sturdy troll, both male. The troll was the first to speak, his voice deep and respectful. "Your Majesty…" he greeted, bowing his head slightly.

"Morning," I replied, offering a nod.

The elf stepped forward with a friendly smile, extending his hand. "Allow me, Your Highness." He reached for my briefcase, offering to carry it for me. I handed it over, appreciating the gesture. Although I didn't know them, of course.

Together, they led me toward the waiting carriage, which stood resplendent in the morning light. The wheels glinted with polish, and the horses snorted impatiently, eager to begin our journey. As we walked, I caught a glimpse of Rael standing near the edge of the courtyard. Our eyes met, and I gave him an almost knowing nod. He waved back, his smile reassuring in the midst of the chaos around us.

The interior of the carriage was just as fancy as I expected. Luxurious velvet seats lined the interior, and gold accents decorated every surface. It was a fitting transport for a prince, though I was more concerned about the journey ahead than the opulence surrounding me.

As the carriage pulled away from the school, the route to the castle was markedly busier than I had anticipated. Monsters and demons rushed around, their faces filled with purpose as they hurried off to unknown destinations.

With each passing moment, the number of guards increased. By the time we approached the castle gates, it felt like we were entering a fortified soldier barracks rather than a place of nobility. The air buzzed with tension as orcs, trolls, elves, wolf-like beings, cat-like people, and various other creatures moved in organized chaos around us, all seemingly preparing for something monumental.

The atmosphere was electric. Conversations hummed in the air, punctuated by the clanging of weapons being sharpened and the shouting of orders. My heart raced with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. I couldn't help but think of the last time I had seen this level of activity— my introduction to the Kingdom.

As the carriage rattled along, I peered out the window, observing the changing landscape. The familiar paths leading to the castle were lined with guards who stood at attention, their expressions stern and focused. Orcs in heavy armor patrolled the grounds, while trolls and elves coordinated supplies and weapons. I felt a swell of pride at the sight of my people, but it was quickly overshadowed by the nagging suspicion that trouble loomed on the horizon.

As we approached the castle gates, the troll driver called out to the guards, announcing our arrival. "Your Majesty has returned!" His voice boomed across the courtyard, drawing the attention of those nearby. I straightened, trying to project an air of confidence despite the unease gnawing at my insides.

When the carriage came to a stop, I took a deep breath, gathering my resolve. As I opened the door and stepped out, the cool air hit me, mingling with the scent of polished stone and the faint aroma of something simmering in the kitchens. The sound of my boots meeting the cobblestones echoed around me as I stepped onto the ground.
