Chapter 1 - 1. I'm here just for a show

"Miss Wyatt, you should know that we cannot hire you. You are in a witness protection program, and we cannot take a risk by having you appear before the magical community."

"But, I'm broke. You don't provide me money and you give me no job. How will I survive?"

"The law stipulates we give you aid till you turn twenty-one. Now, as an adult witch, you should learn to find opportunities by yourself."

Rose felt that her words made no sense. She wasn't allowed to show her face then how was she going to earn? Remote working sites weren't favoring her anyway.

"Madam Denise, surely there must be a job in the embassy for me? Or in the Magic Department?"

Madam Densie looked at her with a frown.

"Rose, you cannot be seen in the Magic community. Any spy can catch you. And God knows, we have more spies than cockroaches in our buildings."

That was true. She spotted one on the windowsill just now.

"Then, can you introduce me to someone, who can give me a job?"

Madam Denise sighed like an old woman. It was ironic because she was just twenty-five. She was not a witch but a psychic.

"I can't. Anyone can trace such things. I'm afraid, you are on your own."

Rose was not happy but she had no other choice.

"Thank you, Madam Denise."

She stood up to leave.

"I see that your stars are aligning. Choose to wear white from tomorrow."

Another stupid advice. Rose rarely wore white. There's this unofficial rule among the magical community. White clothes guaranteed spillings.

As luck or Madam Denise would have it, Rose chose a white shirt today. Because it was on sale. Five for the price of two. And Rose wasn't a girl who said no to such offers.

And she went to interview for a job.

Melvin's Stationery

She looked at the long line and almost had a heart attack. Was the competition for a job at a bookstore this high? But this shop just sold pens and paper, not hardcovers or paperbacks.

She then started to eavesdrop. A hobby she never gave up.

"Walden group is hiring for so many posts. I almost wish to become The Secretary."

"Ha, like it would happen to us. That job requires so many skills. My uncle's nephew's sister's brother's friend's wife's niece's uncle works here. He informed that a secretary should be proficient in five languages, hacking, management, designing, accounting, and if you have more skills, you have more chance."

Rose gasped. Was this not for a secretary but for a prime minister?

"Yeah, it's so sad that we have no choice."

Rose looked at their sad faces and shuddered. The human world was really as scary as the rumors said.

But then again, she could see it in person now. Rose followed the girls to a magnificent building. They entered a hall where some candidates were sitting nervously. There was a table with snacks on it. Rose felt that she could stay here now.

She stayed at the end of the line and watched girls go in nervously and come out sadly.

This continued for five days. Rose regularly went to the scene and marveled at the interview process of the human world.

Rose secretly ate popcorn while watching this scene. She sighed at this magnificence. The snack table was like a home to her.

She wondered about the CEO while munching on a dry fruit bar. Was he proficient in accounting design too?

Today, the number of interviewees was only five. Rose watched them for a long time because they seemed interesting to her. While other candidates were nervous, they were calm. She copied their stance. She had a stack of papers too. Blank papers.

"Miss, it's your turn now."

Rose, who was watching a cute guy among the candidates, snapped back.

She pointed at herself.

"Yes, Miss. Come on in."

Witches rarely felt nervous. Even when they were in a situation where they could overturn everything. Because how was she called for the interview? No one was supposed to notice her with the spell she cast on herself. She was invisible to most humans.

Rose entered the interview with a file of blank papers.

"Name?"

Rose looked at the serious guy before her.

Asher Walden was a handsome guy in his late twenties. His crisp suit and styled hair made Rose irritable. She looked like an idiot before him. He had expressive radiant eyes and Rose felt he knew something about her.

"Rose Wyatt!"

He looked at her and motioned for her to give the file.

Rose stayed put.

"Miss Wyatt, your file."

Now, Rose knew that she was supposed to show him her education stuff. But she didn't even go to high school according to human standards. What was she going to show?

Rose then realized that she could get a job right here. She was already at the interview. Why let such a perfect opportunity go to waste? But her portfolio was a problem. A huge one.

She is a witch. It was time. Time to use magic.

She froze time.

She didn't marvel at the handsome statue of Asher Walden and sprinted to the cute guy outside. His portfolio looked impressive.

Rose copied it mostly in her mind and ran back in.

She then pasted it on a blank paper, edited some information, and put it in her file.

"Unfreeze," she mumbled and moved her file towards Asher.

He read it and gave her no expression making Rose even more nervous.

"Impressive, Miss Wyatt. But I have a question."

Did he want to ask how much salary she wanted?

"I want to know why a software developer wants to become a secretary?"

What? Can she turn back the time now?

"Uh, sir, I am looking forward to learning more about how CEOs work so I can someday start my own company."

Asher looked surprised.

"Miss Wyatt, how can I hire you if you can leave the job someday soon?"

He looked at her sharply.

"Surely, you won't expect me to work for you all my life?"

Rose really didn't want to work for more than six months.

"Yes, you are right. I like your frankness. You are hired."

The only person who was shocked was the guy who called Rose in earlier. He looked at both of them as if they were lunatics. One dared to answer and the other dared to hire.

"Your salary is thirty thousand a month without bonus. I expect you to coordinate my schedules, work, and personal and also work as my assistant. You can start tomorrow."

Rose nodded. The job was okay. She felt that working under a CEO would have no work anyway.

"Here's my work for the next six months. Read and memorize this and write me an analysis report for the next five projects. If you have no accounting experience, take the required course and learn it. That's it for today."

Rose looked at the thick book-like folder and almost wanted to run away.

If she could read such books, she would be in the Magic College right now.

"You don't have a problem, do you?"

Rose shook her head. Thirty thousand, for you, I can read thick books.

That's how Rose found herself reading every night and wrangling the thoughts of hitting her boss every day.

On the other side, in the Magical world!

"Is the chess piece planted?"

"Yes, sir!"

A hooded figure looked up to a dark figure on a throne.

There were two spirits on his sides twisting and trying to escape.

"Quiet. This time, no one can thwart my plan! I want to see how the Wyatt family protects everyone. They have no heir now!"

He chuckled and the spirits vanished.
