Aiden's leg shook from jumping down, but he didn't stop, running faster to the house with his hand tightening around the hard drive.
His heart beat loudly in his chest as he got to the house. He entered the house and ran for the safe in his father's room, heaving as he opened it.
The smell of ink and old papers lingered in his nose, his hands trembling as he fought to hold back tears.
This was his father's unique scent but now he's gone. He wiped the tears away with his sleeves and searched through the papers, scanning each of them for the numbers.
"Search everywhere!" Aiden froze at the voice, he heard the front door open and his eyes shrank from fear.
His heart was beating loudly in his chest as he scanned quickly for the number. Stopping in the file he heard stumping footsteps heading upstairs and the creak of his old stairs and he panicked.
He can't jump out of the window like the last time or his bones would be broken from the impact.
