The next morning, Avery's office echoed with the tapping of her keyboard as she stared intently at the computer screen. Sorting through the file, she stretched, rubbing her chest slightly, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
Ring...
Her office phone rang, and she picked it up, placing it against her ear. "Good day, how may I help..." Before she could finish, she was rudely interrupted by the person on the other end.
"I'm Scarlet Black. I need you to hand the call over to Lucas." The woman's arrogant tone, made Avery frown in distaste.
"Sorry, there is no Scarlet Black on the appointment list," Avery said in a professional, flat tone.
"Don't you know who I am? I could have you fired from the company! How dare you use such a tone when speaking to me? Do you know I could squash you like an ant? I don't know what kind of people are being employed these days...''
Avery felt this woman was being long-winded and unreasonable, she didn't bother to suffer her ears and left the phone on the table, focusing on the document she was sorting.
After twenty minutes, the woman grew tired. Avery picked the phone up again. "Madam, when you have an appointment with the CEO, I will let you through. Have a nice day." She hung up, throwing that lunatic out of her mind.
Scarlet, on the other end, screeched loudly in anger and embarrassment, noticing the strange looks she was receiving from Selina, who was sitting beside her.
"What about his private number?" Selina asked, hopeful and anxious to know the effectiveness of the drugs. But Scarlet was useless- she couldn't even get through to her brother.
Scarlet flushed, recalling how Lucas blocked her number after that last time.
Remembering that PA's flat voice, she redirected all her anger towards him, blaming him for not complying after knowing her identity. She wondered why the new PA was worse than the last and even sounded clearly like a female. If she didn't know how her stepbrother avoided women, she would have doubted that person's identity.
She clenched her fist, grinding her teeth in anger, almost ruining her nails. He should pray he never crosses my part, or else...
Selina could only leave the estate with a frustrated sigh. She checked her phone- it was 3:00 in the afternoon. Her mind was filled with doubts about the drug's effectiveness. But remembering that man's confident gaze, she changed her course and headed for the city.
Avery opened her mini fridge, covering a blood bag with a blue handkerchief. She tore it open with her fangs and drank it down in a few gulps.
The sky turned darker as all the workers left the building. She turned to her boss's office and saw him still working. She tried to use her eyes to signal telepathy that it was time for them to leave.
Lucas looked back, catching her gaze squarely before she could look away. She could only smile awkwardly before returning to her dark-screened computer.
After thirty minutes, she saw him getting his suit jacket and turning off his computer. She jumped happily in her mind, quickly put on her jacket, and switched off the lights- her computer was already turned off.
Standing by the door, Lucas raised his brows slightly, then they strode to the private elevator. When they reached the parking lot downstairs, before they could enter the car, they were blocked by a shadow. Avery recognized the woman who spoken with her boss at the party and she frowned subconsciously.
When Lucas noticed who it was, his eyes turned silver, and he growled under his breath. Selina felt her wolf whimpering and trembling within her.
She knew she broke the rules being here, but she needed to find out. Her shoulders lowered weakly as she respectfully addressed him "Alpha..."
"What are you doing here? Speak," Lucas commanded, his voice firm. But as she stuttered incoherently, his fury grew.
"Go back to the pack and receive your punishment since you broke the rules." His gaze became cold and indifferent as he ignored her pleading gaze.
Turning to Avery, who watched his actions with a sense of awe for his demeanor- though she would only admit he was handsome and cool. Cough...she only said it in normal appreciation.
Lucas motioned for her to get in the car. Avery entered the front seat, watching as he took the driver's position. He was going to drive them back tonight.
Selina watched with a mixture of hatred and obsession as they drove away. The drug was useless, she thought bitterly. If I can't have him no one can. I'll kill him myself if it comes to that. I can't lose both my soulmate and my Alpha.
A shiver of pain ran down her spine as she envisioned the Wolvesbane silver whip lashing at her back.
"Alpha, you're so cruel," Selina thought, her smiles were worse than crying as she resigned herself to receiving her punishment.
They drove back to the mansion in comfortable silence. Avery watched the city lights flash by, with cars zooming past. As they turned a bend, a car came straight at them threatening to collide with them, but Lucas reacted quickly and dodged the attack.
The once lazy, comfortable air around Avery sharpened, and her whole aura changed.
"Let's swap," She said with finality, expecting him to comply. Lucas frowned, not liking her tone but, he pulled over into a space and swapped position with her. He wants to use this opportunity to find little about who she really is.
As they were swapping, a black SUV was coming at them fast, Avery didn't have to put on her seat belt- she barely closed the door before sharply turning the tires, making them screech as she turned sharply to the side, dodging the attack.
She shifted the gear, gripping the steering wheel tightly. "Hold on tight!" She instructed as she sped off, two cars joining the chase on the semi-busy road.
