Chapter 1 - Chapter 1.1: The Cryptic Message

Varanasi, India

The sun had just begun its ascent over the horizon, casting a golden hue over the sacred city of Varanasi. The Ganges River shimmered like a ribbon of molten gold, its waters carrying centuries of prayers and offerings. Along the ghats, holy men sat in meditation, their silhouettes framed by the mist rising from the river. The air was thick with the scent of incense, the sound of temple bells, and the murmur of morning chants.

Dr. Aryan Mehta stood on the balcony of his modest apartment, overlooking this ancient scene. Despite the tranquility of the morning, his mind was anything but peaceful. A man of science, Aryan had spent years unraveling the mysteries of India's past, yet the events of the previous night had left him unsettled.

It had started with a knock on the door, an unexpected visitor in the dead of night. Aryan had opened the door to find a young boy, no older than ten, clutching a small, weathered envelope. The boy had said nothing, simply handing over the envelope before disappearing into the darkness.

Now, as Aryan held the envelope in his hands, he couldn't shake the feeling that something extraordinary was about to unfold. The envelope was made of thick, yellowed parchment, its edges frayed with age. There were no markings on the outside, no indication of who had sent it or where it had come from. Only a single, wax seal, imprinted with a symbol he couldn't immediately recognize.

With a deep breath, Aryan broke the seal and carefully unfolded the parchment inside. The script was unlike anything he had seen before—ancient, yet precise, as if the writer had taken great care with each stroke. His heart quickened as he realized the language was Sanskrit, one of the oldest languages in the world, and one he was well-versed in.

The message was brief, but its implications were vast:

"To the Seeker of Truth,

In the land where the Serpent sleeps, lies the Eye that sees all. Follow the river to where the sun sets, and the sands of time reveal the path. Trust not the shadows, for they seek what you do. Only the pure of heart may claim the Naga's Eye.

—A Guardian of the Old Ways"

Aryan read the message several times, each word sinking deeper into his mind. The Naga's Eye—he had heard of it before, whispered among scholars and in the pages of forgotten texts. A mythical gem, said to possess powers beyond human understanding. It was a legend that most dismissed as mere folklore, a relic of a bygone era.

But Aryan had learned to trust his instincts, and something about this message felt real. The reference to a "Serpent" could only mean one thing: the Naga, an ancient race of serpent deities revered in Indian mythology. The location described was vague, yet the mention of the setting sun and sands pointed towards Rajasthan, the land of deserts and forgotten temples.

But there was something else—something that made his skin crawl. The warning about the shadows. It hinted at danger, at others who were also searching for this legendary artifact. Who were these shadowy figures? And what would they do if they found the Naga's Eye?

Aryan knew he couldn't ignore this. The archaeologist in him was already piecing together clues, drawing on years of study and experience. But it wasn't just curiosity driving him—there was a deeper pull, a sense of destiny that he couldn't explain.

He needed to find out more. And he knew just the person who could help.
