Getting back to work after what had happened with Ethan felt surreal. Madisyn wasn't sure how he would act around her, and she certainly didn't know if she could manage to act normal. She walked into her office, noticing Vanessa was already there, sipping her Starbucks coffee and typing on her keyboard.
"Good morning," Madisyn offered with a smile, but Vanessa's eyes remained glued to her laptop.
"Morning," Vanessa muttered, her tone low and detached, as usual.
"How was your weekend?" Madisyn asked, trying to make conversation and start the week on a friendly note, but Vanessa couldn't help rolling her eyes at the question.
"Good."
Madisyn smiled again, though more to herself. "Mine was good too," she whispered, settling into her seat and turning on her laptop.
A few minutes later, Ethan walked into the office, his expression softening when he spotted Madisyn.
"Good morning, Madi," he said, relief evident in his smile.
