"A contractual marriage," Laura calmly retorted. "On paper, we'll get married, but it will only be for Joan's benefit. We can raise her jointly, and you can be her father. However, romantic expectations won't exist. Unless, naturally, I decide differently."
Jeb lifted an eyebrow with a little smile, pulling at the corner of his lips. "So, you're saying I can't touch you unless you make the first move?"
Laura was forced to chuckle at his directness. "Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying."
Jeb remained silent for a minute, thinking about the suggestion. "And that's alright with you? Cohabiting but not genuinely being together?"
Laura nodded. "I believe Joan will benefit most from this choice. She needs consistency, and I know you can provide that for her. However, I need more time to discover myself and my goals."
