Following closely behind, Emily, Jake, Jacob, and Mark ensured the woman they loved got the best treatment possible.
They awaited her status with bated breath, and the hours seemed to drag on forever.
As they waited in the Emergency room corridor, the rest of the family came. Amor, Jacob Moore's wife, a very kind-hearted and gentle woman, came with some hot and cold drinks for everyone.
After learning from her husband what had happened, she rushed to the hospital to bring them drinks, knowing they would need something while they were all waiting for the result of Grandmother Moore's treatment.
Soon, Olivia Moore came walking with her back straight, her face entirely made up, full of tears, acting like it was the end of the world.
She rushed to her brother, not paying attention to anyone else in the corridor. Began her frantic questioning, full of grievance.
"Brother, why is this happening to us? First, our older brother, then Eric, and now it's Mom... Who's next, you or me? Oh no!!" Then, her peripheral view caught sight of Emily next to Jake. She went crazy... "You!!! It's you, the jinx in our family. You caused all this, and you know it. I'm cursing you to follow them next if anything happens to Mother!"
Emily thought as she watched her Aunt curse her, "Don't worry, Aunty. You don't need to curse me because I'm already cursed. I'm drying, too. Are you happy now?"
Eve Young, who had just come in from behind her, heard everything. She bellowed as she walked towards Emily to protect her.
"Mother! What are you doing? How can you curse my cousin like that? Phew! Take back what you said. You're the one who is a jinx, not Emily. You only think of yourself and no one else."
Emily was astonished when she heard Eve Young's statements. She couldn't believe they were blood relatives, not only best friends and business partners. She put her head on Jake's shoulder and smiled.
Eve Young spoke to Emily as she sat next to her. "I apologize; I did not intend to keep it from you. Since we've never met..." Emily interrupted her before she could complete what she was about to say.
Emily turned to see Eve Young's repentant expression, tears running down her beautiful, caring face.
It's the most excellent thing I've heard so far, Eve. That you are my cousin makes me very pleased. That's why I immediately connected with you when we first met on campus. That she is your Mother is too unfortunate." Emily shot a frustrated look at Olivia.
The two gave each other a comforting embrace. Jake did nothing more than watch everything that was happening around him.
Jacob ignored Olivia and walked far away with his wife in tow. Mark followed behind his parents, not uttering a word.
The doctor finally appeared, subtly displaying a half-smile on his tired face. "She will be alright," he reassured them as he approached them.
"It'll take time for her to recover fully, but she should be back on her feet with proper care and rest. She should be coming out soon to be taken to the ICU for observation, so don't worry." He continued before nodding to bid everyone goodbye.
Everyone was overjoyed after hearing what the doctor said and hugged one another, exchanging waves of relief, except for Olivia, whose face was darkened after hearing that their Mother survived. This means she will not have her share of the inheritance yet.
