And that was how she had had to watch them become a couple and become relegated to the role of little sister.
But as luck would have it, Liam and her have gone to the same college while Abigail had to stay back and work in order to cater for her sick mother.
Liam had made her play the little sister role for the past one year and she has obliged him just because he dotes on her, but she was about to change that. She will use that to her advantage.
She will seduce him and win him over to herself. It was now or never. She picked her phone and dialed Liam's number.
"Liam" she cried over the phone when it was picked up.
"Zoey, what's wrong? Are you okay? Do I come over?" Liam had hoarded her with questions when he heard her pained voice.
"It hurts so much Liam. Ooo. My ankle hurts so much." She cried.
"I'm on my way to you right now. I'll be there in five." She could hear the car door open and close and she smiled.
"Time to get ready." She squealed as she practically waltzed to her bathroom.
"Do you Abigail, take Elijah to be your wedded husband? To love and to hold…"
The preacher's voice jolted her back to the preaent.
"I'm sorry, I got here late. I was held up in the office." Elijah whispered to Abigail as the preacher went on.
He stared at her and assessed her. He knew she was not the girl he was supposed to get married to. He could not wait to unravel the mystery behind her.
"It's okay. I'm just thankful you came." Abigail smiled nervously at him.
Her eyes caught the watch on his wrist and she was surprised. It was the limited edition that came out the week before. She stared at it for sometime and she glanced at his face as they exchanged their vows.
"He is handsome. I can live with that." She muttered to herself as the preacher declared them husband and wife.
"You may now kiss the bride."
Abigail's POV
"No, that won't be necessary." I began to say, but stopped when I saw how Elijah was staring at me.
There was something odd in Elijah's stare which I could not pinpoint. But before I could say anything else, he drew me closer to himself and kissed me with vigor. I tried to pull away, but he held me in place for what felt like eternity.
The resounding shouts from those seated jeered me back to the present, and I pushed him away separated.
"That was truly not necessary. This is just a facade." I tried to hide my crimson face with smiles as we were immediately surrounded by people, congratulating us.
The chapel quickly turned to a reception hall as waiters began to serve drinks to guests. And there was also a buffet-style service, as the guests helped themselves to whatever they wanted.
I excused myself as I made my way to the bathroom. My stare kept people from approaching me, which was what I needed at the moment.
What is really going on with him? How can he kiss me as if we were lovers? Seeing the way he loafs and jokes around, he must really be good for nothing. What have I gotten myself into?
And why am I feeling this way? I've never felt this infuabigailted at someone I just met. Abigail, you have to calm down. I was stopped by my father immediately I came out of the bathroom.
"Congratulationss Abigail. I'm so proud of you." my father came forward, trying to hug me, but I evaded him.
"I'm not doing this with you right now dad, please. Just remember your promise." I excused myself as I made my way back to Elijah, but was stopped by a drunken Zoey.
"It's Abigail." She squealed as she held my hand tightly.
"You should not be doing this right now, Zoey. You're pregnant." I reminded her.
"Shhh… I'm not pregnant. Don't tell anyone." Zoey giggled as she took another glass of wine from the waiter passing by.
"What? But you said you were." I was almost drooling, until she closed my lips with her fingers.
"That is not the point right now. Don't get me confused." She tried to comport herself, "why do you keep taking what's mine?"
"I…"
"Shhh… Don't say anything yet. I was supposed to be the one to get married to Elijah. Why did you have to butt in and take him away from me?" a crowd was gathering already
"What are you even saying, Zoey? You know what, It's okay. Let's get you sobered up." I tried to placate her and move her away from the hall.
"You keep butting into my life and taking things that belong to me." There was so much malice in her voice, "but you know what, I keep getting them back from you." Zoey giggled, "I got Liam's back from you and I will get Elijah back from you too."
"What's wrong with you, Zoey?" Nora was beside her and dragged her away as I stared at their retreating figures.
"Bye Abigail." She actually waved her hands at me as she was dragged off by Nora.
"That's enough, Zoey?"
"Not now, mother. I needed to get that off my chest and Abigail deserved that."
"But you're making a public spectacle of yourself."
"I don't care, mother."
I could clearly still hear them battering as they moved away.
"Hey Abigail."
"Can today get any worse?" I sighed resignedly as I turned and faced Liam. I was not ready to make this easy for him.
"I… Um… I wanted to say congratulations… and, um, to tell you that I am sorry… I wish I could turn back the hands of time."
"Don't. Don't go there, Liam. It will achieve nothing. Not anymore." I cut him off not so nicely.
"I broke your heart. It was wicked of me. I'm sorry." He hiccupped.
"Are you drunk?" He looked at me in a drunken way. "You're drunk." I concluded. "Please go home." I raised my hands and got the attention of his guard to come take him home.
