"It will do you a whole lot of good if you can keep shut and have a sense of decorum. I believe you're grown up and should stop childish behaviour." Abigail eyed them as she faced forward, ignoring them and the hush whispers.
There was a sudden silence all eyes turned to the door way to see what has caused it.
A gentleman in his late 20s strode into the chapel, a hush falls over the crowd. Dressed in a tailored navy blue tuxedo that pronounces his broad shoulders, he exudes an air of elegance. The crisp white shirt beneath the jacket complements his dark attire, and a meticulously tied bowtie adds a touch of sophistication.
His chiseled jawline is framed by a well-groomed beard, adding a hint of rugged charm to his otherwise polished appearance. Deep-set, enigmatic eyes gleam with a mixture of excitement and mischief as they scan the room and came to rest on Abigail. He flashes a smile at her as he begun to walk towards her.
Each step he takes resonates with confidence, and his posture radiates a quiet assurance that captivates those around.
"O will you look at that. That must be the legitimate son of the Lesters. Now, that is a man I would settle for and not the bastard you're getting married to." Abigail dugged her nail into her palm as they watched the man approach them
"Hi there. I hope I'm not too late?" The smile was indeed mischievous.
"Hi, you're welcome. You must be the brother of the groom. How nice of you to show up for the bastard son. My name is Zoey, the bride's sister and I hope we both get along." Zoey stretched out her hand for a handshake but he just kept staring at her till they heard the preacher call for their attention.
"You're welcome Elijah. Fancy you to keep your bride and guests waiting on your wedding day." The preacher joked.
"What?" Zoey was embarrassed and angry and dragged Liam to a seat behind her mother.
That was Elijah? No way. Zoey fidgeted. Oh, the embarrassment.
Maybe he borrowed all those things he is putting on to give an air of someone that is important.
But that can't be. In the few seconds that she has taken to check him out, he looks to be original.
That is a Patek Phillipe watch. That alone costs a fortune. It is the latest model. There was only a few available and even Liam's father, who was the Mayor of the town, could not get it.
"I welcome you all to the solemnisation of the holy matrimony between Abigail and Elijah." The preacher began.
How could she have passed on such a priceless thing to Abigail? She eyed Liam that was standing beside her and felt nothing but repulse for him.
She remembered the day she had decided to seduce Liam. She had gotten a call from her dad that morning. It had been a short and a matter of fact call, just as if her father feared that she might argue and he was prepared not to give her the chance to.
"Zoey, you'll be getting engaged during your next break. Get prepared for it." And the line went off.
"What the heck." She exclaimed and immediately dialed her mother's number.
"Mum, what's going on? Why am I getting married all of a sudden? And who am I getting married to? I don't want to get married now. I've got a full life ahead of me and I don't intend settling with a stranger." She ranted at her mother as soon as she picked the call.
"Calm down Zo. I understand what you must be going through but being irrational right now won't help, okay?" Nora said, exasperated over the phone.
"I didn't give birth to you for you to get married to an unemployed bastard of the Lesters." She sighed.
"What have you been doing as a young lady that you're still single by the way. Your ugly sister already has a man and they are growing stronger despite the long distance between them." Nora berated Zoey.
"The only way out for you is for you to get hitched and get knocked up, and it will be a whole lot better if he is well to do also. You have just two months to do that, okay?" Nora hung up the phone.
And that was it. She had chosen Liam because she had wanted to hurt her sister, and also because Liam is the Mayor's son and he is more than well to do.
He had been her dream man right from when they were in high school back at Washford. They've been friends first, but Abigail had come along and a lot of things had changed
Liam had fallen in love with Abigail at first sight and the thought of that day still haunts her. It was Abigail's first day at school and she had played a prank on her, but that prank had caused her a lot.
Liam had been the one to help Abigail back then and then he had fallen in love with her immediately. It irked her. She had been trying to get him to see her as more than a friend but it never worked.
She had acted quickly by running to stand beside Abigail, so that she won't be seen as the evil step sister
"I'm sorry Abigail sis. O my gosh. Who could have played this costly prank on my sister?" She cried as she attempted to remove some of the paint from her hair.
"You both are related?" Liam adjusted his coat over Abigail as they moved out of the cafeteria.
"Yes, she is my sister. Thanks so much for coming to her aid. I'll take care of the rest."
"Okay." He turned to Abigail, "my name is Liam and I'll see you around." And they both smiled at each other.
"Let's get you changed Abigail." She had to caution herself not to drag her out of there as Liam kept staring at Abigail.
