Chapter 44 - Year 1997 : The Rise of the Kents (Chapter 12)

Themyscira, Royal Courtyard

The sun hung low over Themyscira, casting a golden hue across the island as the Amazons gathered for the awards ceremony. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with the sounds of celebration as warriors, artisans, and scholars alike came together to honor Kal-El. The courtyard, usually reserved for battle preparations and training, had been transformed into a space of joy and triumph. Long banners of red and gold fluttered in the warm breeze, and the scent of wildflowers from the surrounding gardens filled the air. The rhythmic sound of Amazonian drums echoed through the square, adding to the grandeur of the occasion.

At the center of it all stood Clark, dressed in ceremonial armor given to him by the Amazons. Though still young, the boy radiated the quiet strength of someone far beyond his years. The battle against the Gorgonaeus had revealed his incredible potential, and now, the Amazons had gathered to honor him not just as an outsider, but as one of their own.

Hippolyta in her golden armor stood at the head of the ceremony, her elegant figure framed by the glowing light of the setting sun. Behind her, the great columns of the palace loomed tall, symbols of Themyscira's unshakable legacy. She held in her hand a ceremonial staff, an ancient artifact passed down through generations of Amazonian queens. Her expression was calm, but her eyes sparkled with a mixture of pride and curiosity as she watched the young boy who had proven himself beyond all expectations.

"Kal-El," Hippolyta's voice rang out, clear and powerful, silencing the crowd. "You came to our shores by accident, but you have proven yourself through Your bravery, compassion, and unwavering sense of justice. You've fought for us and the safety of Themyscira, and have earned not only the gratitude of Themyscira but the respect of its people."

The Amazons stood silently, their admiration for Clark clear. He had earned their trust through battle, shown his bravery by saving Diana, and now, he was being granted an honor no man had ever received on Themyscira.

Hippolyta stepped forward, her gaze steady as she continued. "Today, In recognition of your deeds, we grant you the title of Great Companion of Themyscira."

A ripple of approval spread through the crowd, soft murmurs of agreement following the Queen's words. This was no small title. It was a recognition of the bond that had been forged between Kal-El and the Amazons, one built on trust, loyalty, and respect.

Hippolyta gestured toward the ceremonial staff in her hands. "With this title, you are granted the right to come and go from Themyscira as you wish. You are no longer just an outsider; you are one of us. You will always have a home here."

Clark felt a warmth settle over him as the words sank in. The Amazons had been kind to him from the moment he arrived, but now, it was different. He had earned their trust through action, and they had accepted him as one of their own. He glanced toward Diana, who stood nearby with a proud smile on her face. This place—this island—felt like a second home.

Clark bowed his head slightly, humbled by the honor. "Thank you, Queen Hippolyta. It is an honor to stand among such noble warriors."

"And," Hippolyta continued, her voice softer now, but no less commanding, "as is custom, you are granted entry into the Treasure Trove of Themyscira. There, you may choose one item, a gift from our ancestors, to take with you."

The treasure trove was legendary. Filled with relics and artifacts from centuries of Amazonian history, it was a place of great power and great responsibility. The idea that Clark could choose an item from it was an honor beyond measure.

Hippolyta turned, gesturing toward the entrance of the trove, its doors wide open, revealing the shimmering treasures within. "Choose wisely, Kal-El. The treasures you see before you are not merely objects of value. They are imbued with magic and the strength of our people."

Clark nodded with anticipation. He stepped forward, walking through the grand doors of the treasure trove, his eyes wide as he took in the sight of the relics that filled the room. Swords, shields, enchanted armor, and mystical trinkets lined the walls, each item glowing faintly with the magic that had been woven into them over the centuries.

But one item caught his attention almost immediately.

It was a set of knuckles, placed carefully on a pedestal at the center of the room. They gleamed in the low light, their surface inscribed with ancient Amazonian runes that pulsed with power. Clark could feel the energy radiating from them, a quiet but steady hum of strength that called out to him.

He stepped closer, his hand hovering over the knuckles as he felt the magic within them.

"These are called the Gauntlets of Atlas," Hippolyta said, her voice gentle as she approached him. "They were forged in the fires of Hephaestus and imbued with the strength of the Titan Atlas. They enhance the wearer's strength tenfold and protect against even the strongest of magical attacks."

Clark's eyes lit up as he looked at the gauntlets. "I choose these."

Hippolyta nodded, her expression approving. "A wise choice. The Gauntlets of Atlas are a powerful tool, but they require wisdom and strong will. In your hands, I believe they will serve you well."

With that, Clark picked up the gauntlets, feeling their power settle over him. As he slipped them onto his hands, he could feel the magic fusing with his own strength, enhancing his abilities in a way that felt natural, almost effortless.

He turned back to the gathered Amazons, who watched in silence as he rejoined them. The ceremony was nearly complete, but the air of celebration was still palpable.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow across the island, Hippolyta raised her staff once more. "Today, let us celebrate for our Great Companion!"

The Amazons erupted into cheers, their voices rising in unison as they celebrated the victory and the newfound bond forged in battle. Clark, though still young, stood tall among them, his heart filled with a sense of belonging that he hadn't expected when he first arrived on the island.

Later That Night

The soft, warm glow of the moon bathed the stone balcony of Themyscira in silvery light, casting gentle shadows that danced across the ornate columns. The night sky was impossibly clear, dotted with thousands of stars that seemed to shimmer brighter here on this sacred island. Clark stood at the edge of the balcony, gazing out over the vast expanse of Themyscira's landscape, his thoughts swirling as the ocean breeze rustled through his hair.

Beside him, Diana, still in her youth but already carrying the grace and strength of her Amazonian heritage, leaned against the stone railing, her wide, curious eyes reflecting the starlight. They had spent hours together today, sharing stories and adventures, but now, as the evening came to a close, there was a peaceful stillness between them—a quiet that felt both comfortable and meaningful.

"It's beautiful here," Clark said softly, breaking the silence, his voice carrying a quiet reverence for the island. "It's… magical, and... peaceful. Unlike anywhere I've been before."

Diana smiled, her gaze drifting to the horizon where the distant waves met the sky. "It is. Themyscira is our home, protected from the outside world. But sometimes…" She hesitated, her voice laced with longing. "Sometimes, I wonder what it would be like out there. What it would be like to see more of the world."

Clark turned to her, his eyes soft with understanding. "The outside world is… complicated. Beautiful in its own way, but also messy and dangerous. You'd love it, though. There are places where the sky seems to stretch on forever, and cities that never sleep. But there's also pain and struggle. It's a balance."

Diana listened intently, absorbing his words. "And what of your home, Kal-El? Tell me more about it. What's it like?"

A small, wistful smile tugged at Clark's lips. "Smallville—it's… well, it's not as grand as Themyscira. It's simple. There's a farm with golden fields as far as the eye can see, and the air smells like fresh earth after it rains. The people there… they're kind, humble. They work hard, live quiet lives. My parents raised me there, taught me everything I know about what it means to do good, to protect what matters."

Diana tilted her head slightly, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. "You speak of it with such love. It sounds… peaceful, in its own way."

Clark nodded, his thoughts briefly drifting to his parents, to the quiet evenings spent on the porch of the Kent farmhouse. "It is. It's not perfect, but it's home. Just like Themyscira is yours."

They fell into a comfortable silence again, the sounds of the island—distant waves, the soft hum of nocturnal creatures—filling the air. Clark glanced at Diana, Feeling the unspoken questions hanging between them.

"I could take you there, you know," Clark said gently. "Not now, but one day. When you're ready, when your mother thinks it's time. You'd love Smallville. You'd love the stars at night, how they seem to go on forever."

Diana's eyes lit up with excitement, though there was a flicker of uncertainty. "Do you think my mother would allow it?"

Clark chuckled softly, the sound warm and reassuring. "Hippolyta's protective, but she loves you. When the time comes, I'll ask her myself. And I'll make sure it's safe for you to see my world."

Diana smiled, a spark of hope blooming in her chest. She could already imagine it—the wide-open skies of Clark's home, the endless possibilities of the world beyond her island.

Clark's gaze lifted to the sky, the twinkling stars beckoning him with their quiet promise of freedom. He turned back to Diana, a playful glint in his eyes. "How about I show you a little bit of that world now? Just… within Themyscira, of course."

Diana blinked in surprise, her brows knitting together in curiosity. "What do you mean?"

Clark grinned and took a step closer to the edge of the balcony, holding out his hand, and said what he was waiting to say to her many years ago. "I mean… Ahem...Hey, Diana, how about a flight through the sky to see the world beyond?"

Diana's eyes widened, a mixture of awe and excitement bubbling up within her. She had seen Clark fly before—seen the way he soared through the air with such effortless grace—but the idea of flying with him, of seeing her island from the skies, filled her with exhilaration.

She glanced down at his outstretched hand, then back up to his face, and without hesitation, she placed her hand in his.

Clark's grip was firm yet gentle as he guided her to stand beside him at the edge of the balcony. He gave her a reassuring smile. "Ready?"

Diana nodded, her heart racing with anticipation. "Yes."

In one fluid motion, Clark lifted them both into the air, and the world fell away beneath their feet. Diana gasped as the ground disappeared below them, her wide eyes taking in the breathtaking view of Themyscira from above. The island stretched out in all directions, bathed in the soft glow of moonlight, its forests, mountains, and beaches shimmering like a painting come to life.

The wind whipped through her hair, and for a moment, all she could do was laugh—a pure, unbridled sound that echoed through the night sky.

Clark glanced at her, his smile widening. "How's it feel?"

"Like a dream," Diana breathed, her eyes alight with wonder as they soared higher into the sky. "It's… I never imagined it would feel like this."

Clark nodded in understanding. "There's nothing quite like it. The freedom. The feeling of being above everything."

As they flew together, the stars seemed closer, the air crisper. Themyscira below looked like a land of myth and legend, its beauty even more apparent from this height.

Suddenly, Clark's expression shifted into one of mischief. "Hey, Homelander," he said, his voice laced with playful command. "Play 'A Whole New World,' the Aladdin song—the Greek version. Turn it up."

Diana blinked in surprise as a soft melody began to play, filling the air around them. The Greek lyrics of the familiar song flowed gently through the sky, perfectly matching the magical atmosphere. She didn't know the song, but it was beautiful—so fitting for the moment, like a melody that had been waiting to be played under the stars.

Clark glanced at her as the music swirled around them, the smile on his face tender. "It's from a story. A tale about seeing the world from a new perspective. I thought it suited the moment."

Diana's lips curved into a soft smile, her heart swelling with warmth. "It does," she whispered, her voice barely above a breath. "It's perfect."

They drifted in the sky, letting the music and the beauty of the night surround them. Their fingers unknowingly intertwine together. For that moment, there was no world beyond Themyscira, no worries or responsibilities—just the two of them, soaring through the stars.

As the song faded, Clark looked over at Diana, his expression growing a little more serious. "I'll come back," he promised, his voice filled with sincerity. "As often as I can. And one day, when you're ready, I'll take you to see the world beyond. Smallville… and everything else."

Diana gazed at him, her heart full. "I'll hold you to that, Kal."

Clark chuckled softly, liking the sound of his new name from her mouth. "I won't let you down."

And with that, they continued to soar above Themyscira, two souls connected by the shared wonder of the world and the promise of a future filled with possibilities.
