I glanced at Aaliyah as I drove us home. I worried for her and everything that must be going through her head, but she sat there, her gaze focused on the road. Her expression was unfazed, and it was hard to read what was going through her mind.
Her emotions moved quickly from sadness to fear and rage.
All I could do was continue driving and leave her with her thoughts.
When we arrived at the estate, I parked the car in the garage and stepped out. Aaliyah followed me, and we both walked inside.
The guard who had informed us about the news at the ceremony stepped forward and bowed his head.
"I apologize if I caused you worry," he said. "I merely thought it was wise to tell you everything as soon as possible, knowing your challenge is only a few days away."
"Though I am angry that you interrupted us, we can agree that you are right," I said. "We need to take care of this before the challenge."
