Silence stretched through the dining room, but none of the Elders so much as twitched in their seats. Everyone's gaze was on the food, which had been splattered with Elder Harrison's blood.
Tristan pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and gently wiped the blood from his hands before sitting down beside me. I froze in my seat.
"Why has the room suddenly gone quiet?" Tristan asked, turning to me. "And why do you look so shocked?"
I stared back at him without a word.
"At least he should be grateful that I gave him a quick death," he said.
