Chapter 72 - A Heated Fight

"Have I had enough of this?" Dai Mubai laughed wildly, as if he'd just heard the funniest joke.

At this moment, he felt as though the humiliation couldn't get worse—betrayed by his fiancée and thoroughly disillusioned.

"If you care so much about him, then go die!" Dai Mubai charged forward, his White Tiger martial spirit activated. His soul power surged, and the golden light in his mouth grew even fiercer.

*Zap!*

Golden energy burst forth, dazzling like a beam of light, aimed directly at the two people flying ahead.

This White Tiger's Fierce Light Wave had ascended several levels in power, now deadly enough to instantly kill an ordinary Soul Elder.

The golden beam shot towards them, and Zhu Zhuqing stood frozen, not dodging at all.

Her face changed slightly. She hadn't expected Dai Mubai to actually attack her, launching such a lethal strike, catching her completely off guard.

"Not going to intervene?" Chen Xuan frowned. His spiritual power was strong, and he'd already sensed Flender hiding in the shadows, apparently with no intention of stepping in.

Without further hesitation, Chen Xuan acted. Zhu Zhuqing was right next to him.

He extended his arm, pulling her slender waist close, and with a burst of electrical arcs under his feet, they disappeared from the spot, dodging the attack.

The White Tiger's Fierce Light Wave missed, blasting straight into the academy's gate. The explosion was deafening as the stone-built door shattered into rubble.

The plaque that read "Shrek Academy"—carved personally by Liu Erlong—crashed to the ground, breaking in two with a crisp, sharp sound.

"Oh no, if Dean Erlong sees this, she'll go ballistic!" Ma Hongjun exclaimed.

Everyone in Shrek shuddered at the thought of Liu Erlong's explosive temper.

"Dai Boss is doomed this time! Erlong Dean's 'sparring' sessions will probably be daily now," Oscar said, nervously imagining what "sparring" with Liu Erlong meant—basically being pummeled.

The sound of the plaque breaking snapped Dai Mubai back to his senses a little. His charging motion slowed.

For a brief moment, the air fell silent, no one making a sound.

It was only now that Zhu Zhuqing recovered from her shock. A wave of disappointment washed over her, leaving a bitter taste in her heart.

She didn't even notice the intimate position she was in, still held in Chen Xuan's arms.

At this moment, Zhu Zhuqing's eyes were full of disillusionment. She felt utterly cold inside. Her fiancé, whom she'd been engaged to since childhood, had never been deeply in love with her. But still, they had grown up together. Yet now, he had turned on her, attacking her over a baseless suspicion.

What did he take her for? A woman of the night? A faithless betrayer?

Her gaze dimmed, disappointment flooding her. Even if she had done something with Chen Xuan, wasn't it Dai Mubai who had cheated first? And she had chosen to forgive him.

Now, after this incident, she was completely disillusioned with Dai Mubai. Without confirming anything, he had unleashed such deadly force against her, without thinking if she could possibly be the type of woman he imagined.

Zhu Zhuqing felt a growing sense of injustice. Dai Mubai was allowed to indulge in whatever he wanted, to disregard their engagement, but if she dared get close to a male friend, it led to suspicion.

She increasingly felt that their engagement was a shackle, binding her unfairly. Along with the disappointment, she now felt a growing distaste for Dai Mubai.

"Are you okay?"

Chen Xuan's voice rang softly in her ear, breaking her thoughts.

Snapping back to reality, Zhu Zhuqing realized she was still pressed against Chen Xuan, in an intimate embrace. However, Chen Xuan had not taken advantage of the situation—his hands rested politely on her shoulders.

Even so, the sight of them together was enough to infuriate Dai Mubai, his eyes burning with rage.

"Well, well, well. You two really are having an affair," he sneered, laughing mockingly, though his face was dark and menacing.

Zhu Zhuqing felt utterly drained. She didn't even want to explain. "Think whatever you want," she said flatly.

She had finally seen Dai Mubai for what he was. She had once naively thought he might change his ways for her, but now it was clear—a leopard can't change its spots.

Dai Mubai laughed bitterly, "Zhuqing, I thought you'd at least try to deny it, maybe offer some explanation. But I guess I was just deluding myself."

He gave a pained smile, all hope gone. Any final thread of attachment had now been severed. The betrayal he felt wasn't an illusion anymore—it was real.

Chen Xuan opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again. At this point, no explanation would be believed by Dai Mubai, who was lost in his rage.

"Fourth Soul Skill—White Tiger Meteor Shower!" Dai Mubai roared, unleashing his most powerful soul skill, fueled by his fury.

With the boosts from his third and first soul skills, the power of the White Tiger Meteor Shower reached a new peak, even more terrifying than before.

He had no intention of holding back. His fist glowed with soul power, transforming into countless golden fists that rained down like a meteor shower, covering a wide area.

Chen Xuan's expression changed slightly. Even with his level 46 soul power, it would be reckless to try to block such an attack directly.

"When are you planning to step in?" he muttered, glancing towards the distant figure of Flender, who still hadn't intervened.

As the golden barrage rained down, Zhu Zhuqing stood calmly, unmoved, neither defending nor dodging.

Chen Xuan thought she was insane—what was going through her head?

*Boom!*

The golden meteors crashed down, the fierce energy engulfing the area within dozens of meters. Golden light flooded the land, and shockwaves rippled through the air.

The Shrek students watched, hearts pounding, but none of them stepped in to stop it. They felt it wasn't their place.

Tang San's eyes flickered with purple light, and he withdrew his gaze.

As Dai Mubai prepared for another strike, finally, Flender stepped in.

"That's enough, Mubai. The academy doesn't allow students to fight like this," Flender said, strolling over slowly, hands behind his back.

With the headmaster speaking, Dai Mubai had no choice but to stifle his rage and stop.

As the golden light faded, the battlefield became visible again, revealing the shattered marble ground, pockmarked with craters.

But there was no sign of Chen Xuan or Zhu Zhuqing.

The Shrek students were puzzled. Given their speed, they could've easily dodged the White Tiger Meteor Shower, but no one had seen them escape.

Only Tang San and Flender knew the truth: Chen Xuan had used some kind of spatial ability to evade.

Soon after, Chen Xuan reappeared at the gate, unharmed, holding a silver dagger, with Zhu Zhuqing by his side.

"Zhuqing, Chen Xuan, good to see you're okay," Flender said with a false smile, playing the mediator. "Remember, you are all students of Shrek Academy. You should sit down and talk things out, not fight. If this happens again, there will be severe consequences."

"Yes, Headmaster. I was too impulsive this time. It won't happen again," Dai Mubai muttered. Whether he truly meant it or not, only he knew.

Zhu Zhuqing, however, looked distant, her emotions clearly unsettled.

"Yes, Headmaster, we understand," Chen Xuan replied flatly.

He was only playing along. In his mind, Flender was nothing but a hypocrite, clearly favoring Dai Mubai.

Chen Xuan's keen senses had detected Flender's presence from the beginning. When Dai Mubai first attacked them, Flender could have intervened but chose not to, turning a blind eye.

"Shrek Academy really isn't a place to stay for long—so biased and hypocritical," Chen Xuan thought.
