A carriage stops in front of a building as the door swings open with force and Gilbert and Clover step out from the carriage.
Clover hurriedly ran to the trash bin that was placed outside of the building before puking her inside out, Gilbert stepped out of the carriage, looking confused as he held some paperwork.
After catching up with Clover they entered the building with not-so-great energy.
They entered the building before sitting down on a nearby sofa and Gilbert offering Clover some blue and white colored pills.
"What is it?" asked her in a tired tone almost gagging
"It is one of the small prizes we got, it is supposed to help"
After eating it she felt way better as they were talking, someone in a proper green suit walked up to them introducing himself as Holden
"Are you guys the new detective here? I am the Lead investigator holden" while smiling friendly
"Yes, we are the new detectives here, but may we ask what is happening and why we are relocated here?"
Holden looks downwards with a sympathetic face before answering "We lack detectives and have a shortage of police officers, and there have been reports of civilians going missing." Stuttering with regret and embarrassment with each sentence
Because Gilbert and Clover are considered rookie detectives, they were told to investigate one of the old bodies in the morgue.
They were in the carriage going to the mortuary in the empty street that was once filled with people The street that was once bustling with life is now almost empty, with only souls wandering through.
As they reached the mortuary entering one of the hundred rooms, Holden opened one locker case containing the dead bodies.
He pulled the pale dead bodies and placed them on the table, Clover took a Closer look before asking.
"How did he die?" while still examining the dead body
"it was suspected of some sort unnatural doing, but there no trace of soul essence" while holding the clipboard.
Clover looked intensely at the dead body writing down all the symptoms in his mind, the large pupil, dry lips, and pale skin were all the symptoms after death or could be the symptoms of poison Clover asked "What was the list of symptoms before death"
Holden glares in surprise before listing "The victim was said and I quote acted like a mad man suddenly"
Clover glares at the body intensely before filliping the body on its back as if she is searching for something maybe a possible stab wound.
"There is no stab wound anywhere maybe food poisoning?" she whispers under her breath.
But she decided to leave the rest of the scene to the investigators. Gilbert, of course, asked why, and Clover turned and said.
"it is just not my problem yet," she said in a nonchalant tone
Suddenly they hear a radio-like sound in the background calling Holden to the office, as he excuses himself
Clover looked at Gilbert before asking "Can we find somewhere to eat?"
Gilbert burrows his face into his hand before saying yes.
Clover and Gilbert walked around the market, while Gilbert walked normally. Clover looked at every store like a child in a candy store except the store was a market, all before they settled at the Southeast Lighthouse.
They ordered the "Eclipse Espresso" and " Rosemary Tuna"
Clover was eagerly looking forward to the aroma of the coffee, being a former coffee enthusiast. However, upon tasting it, she grimaced and promptly spat it out.
."WHY I-IS IT S-SO B-BITTER?" she gagged in shock
Gilbert laughed at this, as it was his first time seeing her gagging the coffee. Clover frowned upon this, pouting and scorning his reaction. Despite all her rage, she asked Gilbert a question.
"Why are we even doing this? These cases have nothing to do with us." She still trying to question him despite grimacing in disgust at the extravagate coffee taste
Gilbert's laughter turns into giggles as he tries to calm himself and puts on a confident smile.
"Because you are skilled at it and it earns us a significant amount of money," he said confidently, without shame, as he utilized his best friend's expertise for financial gain.
Clover glared at Gilbert with contempt and disgust before asking
"Anyway, can we go to one of the crime scenes? The information they give is not enough," she said, glancing in Gilbert's direction with distasteful eyes that seemed to pierce the deepest dark void in your heart that you try to fill with books.
Gilbert nodded in agreement yet still had a subtle smile from the laughter
Clover huffed at the situation but still smirked a little at his best friend Tomfoolery, the cheery and happy atmosphere was clearly rejected by the sudden dark clouds forming and thunder
Clover's smirk faded as she looked at the dark clouds, her intention to find more clues from the crime scene was awfully destroyed
Due to plot reasons, Gilbert smirked at Clover's surprisingly cute face and pulled an umbrella that he conveniently bought while still at the last location Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She was shocked by his preparedness, she even shed tears of joy, yet Gilbert asked one question.
"Where is even the location of the murder?"
Clover smiled at Gilbert's question with excitement and answered with
"I found it while reading the clues It was near 78th book store street"
Gilbert raised an eyebrow at her response but then smiled, deciding not to question her and trying not to ruin her mood.
After they paid for the meal they left for the crime scene, 78th Bookstore Street alleyway is the location where the man they just inspected died.
Despite the harsh rain both of them appeared out of the mist, Clover and Gilbert holding their umbrellas.
Clover looked at every detail of the crime scene, the walls, the ground every detail I carved into her brain, she checked every creek and hole.
She sighed and said in a low tone, "It seems like I can't find any clues."
While Gilbert is listening to Clover's sorrow, he notices some shine at a corner.
He nudges Clover's hand before asking "Hey Clover what is that?" pointing at the corner where the glow resides.
Clover stopped her small opera and looked at where he was pointing, she walked closer to the glow and picked it up.
"Are these strings?" she asked while inspecting the metallic strands. As she examined them, she accidentally cut herself.
She frowned at the blood leaking but decided to ignore it, put it into an evidence bag, and asked Gilbert.
"How about we head back for now?" She flashed a small smile at Gilbert.
Gilbert raised an eyebrow at her reaction but decided to take her to a nearby inn. This time, there wasn't any couple discount.
As she passionately lay on the bed She started to roll left and right like a child despite being an age-wise proper adult
Gilbert sat in a nearby chair, smirking at her actions before asking
"Are you okay? You seem different after being wounded."
She stretched like a cat in bed before answering him with
"I'm fine. Why did you ask? Is it because you are attracted to me?" she said half-jokingly without a single seriousness in her tone
Gibert laughed at her answer before Taking a bath and preparing himself to sleep
After Gilbert left for the bathroom, Clover inspected her wound with a worried expression, but then she grinned and decided to brush it off with a terrible joke.
As Gilbert left the bathroom with freshly worn clothes, he saw Clover wearing eyeglasses and holding a book.
She turned back and said it in a poetic tone.
"As Heaven won the battles, Lilith, one of Satan's generals, was jailed in the deepest part of Hell. The Last Ninth Circle became her personal prison. Her movements were ragged as if her body was chained to the floor and walls around her. Her tears were filled with contempt as she lost to the celestial being."
Gilbert hearing it gave her a blank face before sighing.
"Just take a bath and sleep it is getting late" he frowned at Clover, Clover pouted like a child before jokingly agreeing with him.
As she entered the bathroom she jokingly said
"Don't peek" with a wink at the end which just made Gilbert sigh with disappointment.
Clover frowned as she looked at herself in the mirror, massaging her temple before sighing.
She glared up at the light bulb while contemplating her past actions upon entering the bath.
"Why do I even bother with these? I'm tired. I am so tired," she giggled, adding a humorous taste to her demise.
"This world is pretty funny, isn't it? Gender equality, no racism. It's wonderful. Yet why do I act like this? Magic and steampunk both coexist what more can I wish for?" she said with a stale tone, her eyes lifeless.
After taking the bath she just lay in bed.
"Should I wake up early? Yeah, probably. Hopefully, the next day won't be a pain in the ass" she said jokingly with her conscience fading into a night of sleep.
