Thomas firmly refuses to let the observer approach him while holding a stethoscope and syringe. Only Mom has this right. The observer halts his actions, nods, and then asks him, "Would you like to take a stroll with me? I will answer all your questions." The observer sets down his things, strides towards the door, and Thomas follows close behind. Together, they step out of the room.
The familiar corridor unfolds before them. Doors that are identical one after another sweep past like frames of blank film. Thomas trails beside the observer, completely clueless about their destination. At the end of the corridor, there is no staircase. The two come to a halt here. "Look here," the observer says. As he gently taps the wall, a transparent screen materializes in front of them. The observer scans his iris and enters a password. "These operations should be known to you, yet you've never witnessed them before, right?" the observer queries Thomas. Thomas remains silent. The wall automatically slides open, revealing a long staircase. As they tread, the lights blaze brightly. The observer points to the photos lining both sides of the stairs and remarks, "For many years, we have been wholeheartedly committed to realizing the 'Perfect Human Plan'. Spanning from prehistoric civilization to the present, it has been tens of thousands of years. The entire course of civilization is built upon the development of human intelligence and physical ability. Everything we possess today is the legacy of countless predecessors and the collective achievement of all mankind throughout history." The two ascend onto a platform. Below lies the place where Thomas attends classes every day. Everyone is engrossed in learning. Thomas catches sight of the spots once occupied by Allen and Sally. New individuals have taken their places, while his own position remains vacant. The observer exudes calmness and determination. Pointing downward, he declares, "The remarkable achievements of human civilization can now develop at a geometrically multiplied speed. If we could have a group of perfect beings with the highest level of qualities in all aspects such as intelligence and physical ability, just imagine to what extent human civilization would progress?" Thomas fails to offer the answer the observer desires. He isn't concerned about whether human civilization is advancing or retreating. Finally, he utters, "Why am I on this island? Where is Sally?"
The observer leads Thomas to the other side of the platform. There, a window presents a view of the courtyard, the sea, the beach, and the cliff—all familiar landscapes that are part of Thomas's daily routine. "With the astonishing development of science and technology today, we can enable people to experience diverse scenes and lives through intricate settings". The observer gazes intently into Thomas's eyes and says, "We can determine the world that people can access." The observer delicately presses on the glass. In an instant, the scene before them transforms into the full moon that Thomas witnessed that night, accompanied by all the enchanting scenery beneath it. The observer's smiling lips curl with a hint of showmanship as he says, "Are you familiar with this scene?" In a flash, Thomas once again sees the big ship by the sea. The sunlight, seawater, and beach are an exact replica of the day Allen departed. In another blink, the view changes to the deep sea seen on the deck, the swaying mast, and the splashing seawater... The scenes shift with increasing speed. Thomas's eyes widen in astonishment, his lips quiver, and he is unable to utter a sound. Those precious moments buried deep within his heart and belonging solely to him are so roughly excavated and exposed by the observer, displayed blatantly before his eyes. At this moment, Thomas feels as if he is completely naked, devoid of any covering, his entire being laid bare in all its vulnerability. "We can give you everything you desire," the observer almost affectionately confesses to Thomas. "Everything you need, are curious about, enjoy, and are addicted to—we can provide it all. You can perpetually live in the flawless world we create for you."
The observer guides Thomas down from the platform. Before entering a room, he pauses and asks Thomas, "Do you know why?" The door swings open, revealing a surgical table that resembles more of a workshop. Several robotic arms are ceaselessly operating on an opened human body. That's Allen lying there. Thomas fells the air in the chest cavity is suddenly evacuated all at once. He can hardly breath. The room is deathly silent, making the observer's words exceptionally clear. "The human body is an exquisitely precise machine, infinitely mysterious. The initial stage of the Perfect Human Plan once met with failure. Back then, our focus was on the natural human body to stimulate brain potential. The intelligence of the participants grew rapidly, but ultimately, the project was forced to be interrupted due to the sudden onset of various mental illnesses. We still haven't been able to determine where exactly the problem lies in the operation of stimulating brain potential". The observer shrugs and shakes his head. Then he winks and smiles at Thomas and says, "But there are also achievements. We have mastered brain transplantation and repair as well as memory transplantation technology. Currently, we are dedicated to the research and creation of human and machine complexes." The observer leans forward and gazes at the chest cavity of Allen's body with his hands resting on the edge of the surgical table. He gestures for Thomas to come closer and says, "Look, what a magnificent combination. Our perfect human is not just a machine that blindly obeys instructions. It is a cutting-edge marvel that can self-stimulate brain potential, learn, think, communicate, and reproduce." The observer turns his head and looks at Thomas and says, "Do you know about Nuwa creating humans in ancient Chinese mythology? Nuwa fashioned humans with loess. We create the most flawless humans with the most advanced technology. And you are the finest masterpiece we have obtained thus far."
