Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Waking Up

September 15, Saturday.

At seven in the morning, Shi Hai opened his eyes right on time.

He had gone to bed very late the night before, and his sleep quality was terrible, so he wasn't feeling great. His body was stiff from staying in the same position all night.

Since it was the weekend and there were no classes, he could have slept a little longer.

But his damn biological clock woke him up right on time anyway.

Today, Jian Sichun and Zhu Lingjie hadn't barged into his room early in the morning.

Probably because they knew it was the weekend and there was no need to wake him up.

Shi Hai wanted to stretch, but as soon as he tried to lift his hand, he realized his right arm couldn't move.

He then remembered that since last night, his right hand had been under the control of his sister and still hadn't been freed.

The reason he had to sleep in his own bed last night was because he hadn't managed to pull his hand away in time.

Around two in the morning, after confirming his sister was asleep, Shi Hai had tried to free his hand.

But by the time he thought of doing so, it was too late.

What he hadn't noticed was that before falling asleep, his sister had already secured a firm grip on her brother's hand.

At first, it was just a simple hand-holding, not tight, giving him the impression he could pull away at any time.

But later, Shi Meng subtly interlaced their fingers.

After a while, she placed her other hand on top of her brother's.

That wasn't enough, though; she even raised their hands to her face, pressing her forehead against them.

Eventually, she curled into a fetal position, bringing her knees up.

Shi Meng's actions made it seem as though she treated her brother's hand like a sacred object, gently wrapping it in her palms, kneeling in a gesture of devout prayer.

Shi Hai remembered reading in an article that people who sleep in a curled-up, fetal position often lack a sense of security. They are sensitive and fragile inside.

It seemed that his reincarnated sister truly lacked a sense of security...

In the end, Shi Hai gave up the idea of pulling his hand away and obediently lay back in his own bed to sleep.

However, he didn't lie down completely. He placed a cushion behind his waist and leaned against the headboard in a half-sitting position.

This way, he wouldn't need a pillow and could avoid sleeping face-to-face with his sister.

He didn't cover himself with the blanket, leaving it all for his sister, and even pinned the edge of the blanket under his body.

Even though they were sharing the same bed, they wouldn't share the same pillow or blanket, ensuring no accidents would happen.

All in all, it was still a heartwarming scene of an older brother taking care of his sleeping sister.

Even if Jian Sichun and Zhu Lingjie saw it, Shi Hai felt he could explain it clearly.

Since it was the weekend and Shi Meng was probably just as tired, Shi Hai decided not to wake her and let her sleep a little longer.

He planned to doze off again himself...

However, leaning against the bed was quite uncomfortable, so Shi Hai thought about sliding down a little to rest on the cushion, making his body more comfortable.

But as he slid down, his body pulled the blanket with it, causing it to slide off his sister's body as well.

And that's when he saw Shi Meng's smooth shoulder.

It seemed that the buttons on her pajamas had come undone, causing the neckline to loosen and the pajama top to slip off her shoulder...

Shi Hai immediately turned his face away, straightened his back, and quickly pulled the blanket up to cover his sister again.

This was exactly the kind of accident he was trying to avoid.

Fortunately, he had only seen her shoulder and collarbone, nothing inappropriate.

Actually, it wasn't that he didn't see anything—it's just that what was supposed to be there wasn't, so there was nothing to see.

That's probably the advantage of being flat-chested.

The safety factor was greatly increased.

However, Shi Hai soon felt his hand going numb.

Since waking up, his right hand had been numb, probably because his sister was holding onto it tightly and his half-sitting posture had caused his wrist to bend awkwardly, restricting blood flow.

Now that he had slid down a little and blood started circulating again, he felt an instant tingling sensation in his hand, as if he had been shocked by electricity.

The sensation made Shi Hai's hand tremble, and he had to grit his teeth to get through it.

Once the feeling subsided, Shi Hai turned his head to check on his sister... Had he woken her up?

His sister hadn't woken up, but upon closer inspection, he noticed something was off...

And the strange sensation he noticed soon registered as a "feeling" in his hand.

More precisely, it was the feeling in his fingers… very strange.

It was like the sensation you get when you finish a container of yogurt and notice some leftover yogurt stuck to the sides. Feeling it's a waste, you use your fingers to scrape it off...

Except it was much warmer than yogurt, comfortably warm.

He could feel that the skin on the tips of his index and middle fingers had become wrinkled, like they'd been soaked for too long.

Shi Hai sighed in frustration...

Was she dreaming about eating snacks?

But what kind of snack would she be dreaming about… spicy sticks?

Anyway, at least he wasn't being chewed on.

Still, this sticky feeling was quite unbearable...

Shi Hai hated this kind of sticky sensation.

It was like when you spill cola on your hand, wipe it off in a hurry, but the stickiness still lingers.

He desperately wanted to pull his hand out immediately and go wash it thoroughly in the bathroom.

But his sister was still asleep... If he pulled his hand out now, it would definitely wake her up.

Shi Hai was in agony.

He never imagined that despite avoiding most of the troublesome scenarios (FLAGS), he would still end up suffering this way...

At this point, he'd rather have his hand stay numb than endure this sticky torture.

Thankfully, the sticky misery didn't last too long.

Shi Meng finally woke up.

She didn't wake up because of Shi Hai's fidgeting, but because she naturally turned her head in her sleep.

With that slight discomfort, she woke up on her own.

Her eyes were still bleary, and upon seeing her brother, her first reaction was to giggle and mumble a sleepy "good morning."

"Hu hu… goo goo (Gege)… zhhao ang (good morning)..."

Her speech was slurred and unclear.

After greeting him, Shi Meng lifted her hand to rub her eyes.

And at that moment, Shi Hai's hand was finally freed.

He seized the opportunity and quickly pulled his hand away.

His right hand, now exposed to the air, felt like a steamed pig's trotter, steaming hot, clearly having been "overly warmed."

He brought his right hand up to examine it.

Even from a distance, he could smell it...

Those two fingers...

Yup, they were completely "steamed and softened."
