Shi Hai stayed by Shi Meng's side, watching her hang up the socks and underwear she had just washed.
By the time she finished, it was already past ten o'clock at night.
For Shi Hai, though, this was still early.
He usually didn't even consider going to bed until midnight.
As a laid-back university student, Shi Hai had so much free time that he often didn't know how to spend it.
Most of the time, he would pass the hours by reading books or playing games.
Recently, however, his days had been quite full because the two beautiful girls from next door often came to hang out with him.
But tonight, because of Shi Meng, his evening was free.
Shi Hai wasn't feeling sleepy, so he asked Shi Meng, "Want some milk? I'll make you a cup; it'll help you sleep."
Plus, it's great for physical development.
After all, Shi Meng's appearance was already top-tier.
If she could improve her figure just a bit more, she'd definitely grow into an absolute beauty.
Shi Meng saw right through Shi Hai's thoughts and quickly crossed her arms over her chest, blushing for the first time.
"Brother! I'll grow bigger eventually!"
"You sure about that?"
"Of course!"
Actually, she wasn't sure at all.
Though she put on a confident front, inside she was feeling anything but.
In the future, Shi Meng wouldn't be flat-chested anymore, but she'd only reach about the size of a small bun—still below average.
This was one of Shi Meng's biggest regrets.
Even drinking milk every day didn't seem to help much; she had no idea where all the nutrients were going.
Maybe… her butt had gotten bigger?
But she'd still prefer it to grow up top.
"Well… I'll take a cup, then."
Since her brother was making it, she couldn't refuse.
Shi Hai performed a mock butler bow and said, "As you wish, my lady. I shall prepare you a sweet and delicious cup of milk."
"Hehe, then can I make a small request?"
"Of course, please go ahead."
"I want to use your cup, Brother."
"Uh…"
That request caught him off guard.
Shi Hai only had one white mug that he used for everything: drinking water, coffee, or any other beverage.
Even though Shi Hai always cleaned it thoroughly, the inside of the cup was stained after prolonged use, making it look a bit dirty.
Most people would be put off by it, especially clean-freak girls who would avoid sharing a cup with someone else.
For instance, Zhu Lingjie definitely wouldn't want to use it—or at least that's what Shi Hai thought.
The truth was quite the opposite, though.
In any case, Shi Hai felt that an ordinary sister wouldn't want to share a cup with her brother.
Of course, Shi Hai had already noticed Shi Meng wasn't ordinary.
She acted too close and familiar with him, and combined with some scattered clues, Shi Hai was almost certain that his sister was also a reborn individual.
But Shi Meng had her differences compared to Jian Sichun.
The most obvious was the sense of "distance."
This was beyond close—it felt like there was no distance at all.
Maybe it was because they were siblings, so naturally, they were closer than friends like Jian Sichun?
But would siblings be this "inseparably close"?
Usually, siblings have some degree of separation, and many sisters are quite annoyed by their brothers, and vice versa.
So Shi Hai was puzzled.
"You don't mind?"
Shi Hai hesitantly held his cup out in front of Shi Meng, showing her the inside as if to ask, "Don't you think it's dirty?"
Shi Meng, however, looked unbothered and casually tilted her head, replying, "Why would I mind?"
To Shi Meng, sharing a cup with her brother was something she was already accustomed to.
What was hers was her brother's, and what was her brother's was hers.
There was no need to make such distinctions.
Shi Hai suppressed the urge to question further and nodded before heading off to make the milk.
After a while, Shi Hai brought the prepared milk over.
Shi Meng took the cup, holding it in both hands as she sipped the warm milk her brother had made.
She felt a rush of warmth flow through her, heating her whole body.
Her heart felt just as warm.
At this moment, she had the same feeling as Jian Sichun did when she returned to Shi Hai's house—a sense of, "I've finally come home."
No matter how fancy or comfortable another place might be, nothing feels as comforting as being in your own little corner of the world.
That sense of security is something no other place can offer.
Shi Meng's expression softened, and she showed a genuine, happy smile.
Shi Hai, watching from the side, felt deeply moved and comforted by the sight.
Shi Hai wasn't sure if it was Shi Meng's smile that influenced him, but once again, he found himself reaching out to pat her on the head.
He was well aware that most people didn't like having their heads patted; some even found it offensive.
The idea that head pats could win over girls was something that only worked in games.
When he had patted his sister's head on the way home, it had been to comfort her while she was crying.
In any other situation, Shi Hai wouldn't have considered touching a girl's head so casually.
But in the face of his sister's angelic smile, Shi Hai couldn't resist extending his hand.
And the response was overwhelmingly positive.
Shi Meng even leaned into his palm, nudging it with her head.
She then tilted her head up, pressing her soft, smooth cheek into his hand, and rubbed against it.
She didn't forget to take a couple more sips of her milk, either.
She was like a little kitten actively seeking pets and affection.
In a word: adorable.
Even Shi Hai, who considered himself a tough guy, felt his heart melting.
His sister was like a pure, naturally super-adorable creature!
Shi Hai realized that if this continued, he would probably dream about Shi Meng all night, so he quickly pulled his hand back.
Shi Meng looked slightly disappointed, staring longingly at Shi Hai's hand.
Her lively eyes seemed to ask, "Not going to keep petting me?"
Unable to resist, Shi Hai thought, "Just ten more seconds!" and reached out to pat his sister's head again.
"Hehe…"
Shi Meng giggled happily, quickly finishing off the warm milk her brother had made for her.
After licking her lips, she set the cup down, ready to fully enjoy her brother's head pats.
But in her haste to drink the milk, a little had spilled, smudging Shi Hai's hand.
What a major blunder!
How could she dirty her brother's hand?
She felt like she had failed as a sister!
Shi Meng quickly stuck out her tongue and licked his hand clean, trying to make up for her mistake.
While her brother's hand was clean again, Shi Hai felt a bit uneasy.
It was just his sister drinking milk and getting head pats…
So why did it feel so… wrong?
Shi Hai knew they couldn't continue like this and quickly pulled his hand back, coughing awkwardly.
"Ahem… since you've finished, you should get some rest."
"Mm, and you?"
"I should probably get to sleep, too…"
After all this, Shi Hai felt like he no longer had the mental energy to do anything else.
Plus, to keep his mind from straying, he needed to listen to some music and clear his thoughts.
Otherwise, the pure and wholesome scene they had shared might get tainted by unwholesome thoughts.
"Goodnight, rest well."
"…Mm…"
Shi Meng seemed like she wanted to say something else, but in the end, she just watched her brother head back to his bedroom.
Back in his room, Shi Hai lay down on his bed, put on his headphones, and immersed himself in instrumental music to cleanse his mind, washing away the inappropriate thoughts clouding his head.
After about an hour, approaching midnight, Shi Hai was on the verge of falling asleep.
But just then, a knock at the door startled him awake.
He immediately realized who it could be.
There were only two other people in the house: his mom, who had gone to bed long ago, and Shi Meng.
His mom, like the two girls next door, never bothered knocking.
That left only one person…
His sister, Shi Meng.
It looked like the brother-sister bonding time was going into overtime.
