Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: The Vow

Zhang Yuxia could tell it wasn't the right time to dig into gossip, so she simply said, "You should go pick her up quickly. I'll talk to the dormitory supervisor and make sure they let you in."

Shi Hai expressed his gratitude. "Thank you, Ms. Zhang."

"Given it's you, Shi Hai, there shouldn't be any issue. I'm sure it's fine for you to enter the girls' dorm."

All the women trusted Shi Hai.

This trust was a result of the integrity Shi Hai had built up through his actions and behavior.

Plus, with two beautiful girls by his side, the teacher figured he must be in good hands.

After saying goodbye to Zhang Yuxia, the three of them arrived at the girls' dormitory.

Shi Hai started looking around for his sister.

Although he had discussed his sister's appearance with his mom, this was the first time he would actually see her.

Luckily, there was someone who already recognized Shi Meng.

"There! I see Mengmeng!" Jian Sichun exclaimed, pointing in a certain direction.

Following her gaze, Shi Hai saw his new sister for the first time.

She was slender, wearing a neat, classic blue and white school uniform with no additional accessories.

Her black hair fell to her shoulders, with soft bangs above her eyebrows and the ends of her hair curling slightly inward.

Because she wasn't wearing a jacket, her smooth, fair arms were visible.

Her appearance gave off a "clean" impression.

Shi Hai could now understand why his mother said his new sister resembled Akemi Homura.

It wasn't that they looked alike, but rather they had a similar aura.

Most freshmen in high school still had a certain naivety about them, but Shi Meng exuded a mature demeanor that was uncommon for someone her age.

Her development seemed a bit "delayed."

Of course, she wasn't entirely flat-chested, but the slope was somewhat... modest.

It might have been the loose fit of her uniform that made it look like there wasn't much there.

Shi Hai glanced subtly at the two girls beside him, whose curves were far more pronounced.

He concluded that his sister probably hadn't hit her growth spurt yet.

But that was okay—there was still time for her to develop.

He believed their mother would make sure she drank plenty of milk in the future.

Shi Meng hadn't noticed Shi Hai and the others yet because three boys were gathered around her, seemingly trying to persuade her about something.

These three were Shi Meng's classmates, also boarding students, who had taken a liking to her the moment they saw her on the first day of school.

Initially, they were thrilled to learn that Shi Meng was also a boarder, thinking it would give them more opportunities to interact with her.

But after just two weeks, Shi Meng had decided to move out, breaking their hearts.

If she started commuting to school, how would they ever get to see her?

Guo Hongbo, the third member of the trio, scratched his head and asked, "Are you really moving out, Shi Meng?"

Shi Meng was getting impatient, frowning as she replied, "Enough. I've already decided to move out."

It was then that she noticed Shi Hai and the others approaching.

The joy on her face was immediate, but it was quickly replaced by a frown when she saw Jian Sichun and Zhu Lingjie beside him.

What were they doing with her brother?

Shi Hai told Jian Sichun and Zhu Lingjie to stay put while he walked over alone and asked, "Shi Meng?"

Shi Meng nodded. "Yes, it's me."

"I'm your brother. I came to pick you up."

Shi Meng smiled warmly. "I know. I've been waiting for you."

She had been waiting for a long, long time...

The three boys were stunned.

Although they had seen her smile before, it was always just a polite smile, which was enough to make them happy for a whole day.

This was the first time they had seen Shi Meng smile so tenderly, and the look in her eyes as she gazed at Shi Hai was filled with deep affection.

So, this was Shi Meng's brother?

Even knowing he was her brother, it was hard not to feel jealous when the girl they liked looked at another guy like that.

Shi Hai continued, "I'll go up and help you with your luggage."

Chen Mingxuan, the second in the trio, spread his arms to block Shi Hai's path and said, "This is the girls' dormitory. Boys aren't allowed!"

Shi Hai felt a bit speechless.

These three had no problem standing right at the entrance of the girls' dormitory, and they had the nerve to bring up the rules?

He noticed a few girls peeking out from the dorm entrance, likely there to see Shi Meng off, but they didn't dare approach because of these three.

The trio had hit their growth spurts early and were already six feet tall, towering and imposing.

Shi Hai himself only started growing in his third year of middle school, and by his second year of high school, he had just passed the six-foot mark.

But unlike Shi Hai, the trio had a somewhat intimidating appearance, which scared the younger girls away.

Shi Meng was the only one who could talk to them without flinching, which the other girls admired. It took a lot of courage to face them.

But if these three had been somewhat friendly with Shi Meng before, things had changed now that they were trying to block her brother.

Chen Mingxuan felt a cold shiver run down his spine as Shi Meng shot him a glare so icy it could pierce his soul.

Just then, the dormitory supervisor stepped out and asked, "Are you the graduate that Ms. Zhang mentioned?"

"Yes, I'm here to help my sister move her luggage."

"Alright, go on up," she said, adding a stern warning to the trio, "And you three, don't you dare try to sneak in. If you do, I'll report you!"

With the dorm supervisor's words, the trio had no choice but to step aside, heads hanging in defeat.

But Yang Junjie, the leader of the trio, wasn't ready to give up. "Wait! We don't agree with this! She's doing fine in the dorm. Why does she have to move out?"

Guo Hongbo chimed in, "Yeah! Taking the bus for half an hour to and from school every day is such a hassle!"

Chen Mingxuan added, "Exactly! Who knows if her stepmother might mistreat her?"

"..."

"..."

Before Shi Hai could respond, Shi Meng had already "reacted."

Her death stare could have frozen the air around them.

Then, with a voice full of authority, she commanded, "Shut up! Don't talk nonsense."

"I'm sorry..." Chen Mingxuan was on the verge of tears.

Why was he always the one getting hurt?

The situation had become quite awkward.

Shi Hai couldn't help but chuckle, realizing that instead of helping his sister fend off these guys, he now had to calm her down.

Yang Junjie, sensing they had said something wrong, still couldn't just let her go and instead raised his basketball to Shi Hai, saying, "You're Shi Meng's brother, right? How about we settle this with a game of basketball? Winner decides if Shi Meng stays or goes!"

Shi Meng shot him another deadly glare. "Who gave you the right to decide for me? No matter the outcome, I'm going with my brother."

Nothing could stop her from returning to Shi Hai's side.

Shi Meng had already made a vow.

As his sister, she would always stay by Shi Hai's side, taking care of him for the rest of his life.
