Kaelen jolted awake, his chest was heaving as he gasped for air. His heart raced, pounding in his ears as he blinked rapidly, trying to make sense of where he was. The world slowly came into focus, revealing the aftermath of something terrible. He sat up from the cold, cracked earth, with his hand that was trembling as he brushed dust from his face. The desolate village surrounded him like a graveyard. Smoke still lingered in the air, mingling with the scent of burnt wood and... something else.
His eyes fell on the massive form of the beast lying several feet away. Its head was severed, lying grotesquely in the dirt several paces from its body. A dark pool of blood soaked the ground beneath it, thick and unnatural in its consistency.
Kaelen's breath hitched as he stared at the carnage. He muttered to himself.
"Did... did i do that?"
