Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: New Life

As they ventured deeper into the gate, multiple beasts emerged from their hiding places, their eyes glowing with an eerie light. Liu's eyes widened in shock at the sheer amount of energy they were emitting, but he quickly regained his composure.

"Mei, be careful!" he warned, his hand on the hilt of his sword. "These beasts are powerful!"

But as he looked at the beasts, he couldn't help but think that compared to the Devourer, they were nothing. The Devourer's energy was like a raging storm, while these beasts were mere sparks in comparison.

"I've got this, Liu," Mei said confidently, her hands glowing with elemental energy. "Let's take them down!"

With a fierce cry, the beasts charged at Liu and Mei, their jaws snapping wildly. But the two hunters were ready. Liu drew his sword and struck down the first beast with a swift swing, while Mei summoned a blast of fire that incinerated another.

As the battle raged on, Liu and Mei worked together seamlessly, their movements a perfect synchrony of sword and elemental magic. The beasts were no match for their combined strength, and soon they lay defeated at their feet.

Liu and Mei stood victorious, their chests heaving with exertion. "That was easy," Mei said with a grin. "But I have a feeling the real challenge is yet to come."

Liu nodded in agreement. "Let's keep moving forward. We don't know what other dangers lie ahead."

And with that, they pressed on, deeper into the heart of the Dimension gate.

As they continued on their journey, Liu and Mei encountered more beasts, but they were able to dispatch them with relative ease. However, as they ventured further into the Dimension, they suddenly felt an intense aura emanating from up ahead.

Liu's eyes narrowed. "Mei, do you feel that?"

Mei's gaze turned serious. "Yes, it's a powerful energy signature. I think we're getting close to the boss of this Dimension."

Liu's grip on his sword tightened. "Let's be careful. We don't know what kind of power it possesses."

As they cautiously approached the source of the aura, the air grew thick with tension. The ground began to tremble, and the skies darkened. Suddenly, a massive figure emerged from the shadows.

"It's the boss," Liu whispered, his eyes fixed on the towering creature before them.

The creature was unlike anything they had ever seen. Its body was a mass of writhing, pulsing tendrils, and its eyes blazed with an otherworldly energy.

"Let's do this," Mei said, her voice steady. "We've come too far to turn back now."

Liu nodded, his sword at the ready. "Together, we can take it down."

And with that, they charged forward, ready to face the boss of the Dimension head-on.

The battle against the boss of the Dimension was intense and grueling. Mei and Liu worked together seamlessly, their movements a perfect synchrony of sword and elemental magic. But as the fight wore on, it became clear that Mei was the star of the show.

Her elemental abilities were a wonder to behold, as she summoned powerful blasts of fire and ice to scorch and freeze the boss. Her magic was so precise that she could strike the boss's weak points with ease, dealing massive damage.

Liu watched in awe as Mei took down the boss with ease, her movements a blur of speed and grace. He supported her with his sword, striking from behind and taking down the boss's minions.

But even as they fought together, Liu couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and admiration for Mei's skills. She had grown exponentially since their last battle, and it was clear that she was now immensely strong.

As the fight wore on, Mei's magic only grew stronger. She summoned a massive storm, unleashing a torrent of lightning bolts that struck the boss with incredible force. The boss howled in pain as Mei's magic tore into it, its body crackling with energy.

Finally, with one last burst of magic, Mei struck the final blow, defeating the boss and ending the battle.

Liu grinned, clapping Mei on the back. "You were amazing out there!" he exclaimed. "I think you've finally surpassed me!"

Mei laughed, her eyes shining with pride. "Thanks, Liu! I couldn't have done it without you, though."

Liu shook his head. "No way, Mei. You were the star of this battle. If you faced the Devourer now, I think you would win."

Mei's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? You think so?"

Liu nodded. "Absolutely. You've grown so strong, Mei. I'm honored to be your partner."

Mei blushed, looking away. "Thanks, Liu. That means a lot coming from you."

"Alright, let's get out of here," Liu said, sheathing his sword. "We've defeated the boss, and I'm sure there's nothing else in this Dimension that can pose a threat to us."

Mei nodded in agreement, and together they made their way out of the Dimension gate. As they walked, Liu stooped down to pick up some crystals that were scattered on the ground.

"What are those?" Mei asked, curiosity etched on her face.

"Just some crystals," Liu replied, pocketing them. "Might come in handy later."

Mei raised an eyebrow but said nothing more.

As they emerged from the gate, they saw Jenkins waiting for them, a look of relief on his face.

"Thank goodness you two are okay!" he exclaimed, rushing over to them. "I was worried sick about you!"

Liu grinned. "We're fine, Jenkins. Just a little tired."

Jenkins nodded. "Well, you've earned a rest. Let's get you two back to the base and debriefed."

Mei yawned. "Sounds good to me."

As they drove back to the base with Jenkins, Liu couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. They had defeated the boss of the Dimension, and Mei had proven herself to be an incredibly powerful hunter.

And as for the crystals in his pocket... Liu smiled to himself. He had a feeling they might come in handy someday.

Jenkins led them to the base's briefing room, where a large screen displayed a map of the Dimension gate. "Well, I have to say, you two are quite the team," he said, beaming with pride. "You cleared the Dimension gate in record time - approximately 1 hour!"

Mei's eyes widened in surprise. "That's the fastest time ever?"

Jenkins nodded. "Yes, it is! The previous record was 3 hours and 15 minutes. You two have shattered that record by a landslide!"

Liu grinned, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. "We make a good team, Mei."

Mei smiled back, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Definitely. And it was a breeze with your sword skills and my magic."

Jenkins chuckled. "Well, whatever you two are doing, keep it up. You're an unbeatable team.

Liu pulled out the crystals from his pocket and handed them to Jenkins. "Hey, Jenkins, what are these crystals? I picked them up on our way out."

Jenkins' eyes widened in surprise. "Where did you get those?"

"In the Dimension gate," Liu replied. "What are they?"

Jenkins grinned. "Those are rare crystals, Liu. They can be sold for a lot of money."

Liu's eyes widened in astonishment. "What?! I had no idea!"

Jenkins chuckled. "Yeah, they're highly sought after by collectors and researchers. You could sell them for a pretty penny."

Liu's face lit up with excitement. "I should have picked more!"

Mei laughed. "You're thinking about going back for more, aren't you?"

Liu nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, I am! Jenkins, can we go back and collect more?"

Jenkins shook his head. "Sorry, Liu. The Dimension gate is closed now. But don't worry, you two have already made a name for yourselves as top hunters. You'll have plenty of opportunities to collect more crystals and other valuable resources in the future."

Liu grinned, still excited about the prospect of collecting more crystals. "Alright, can't wait for our next adventure!"

Jenkins dropped them off at their home, a sleek and modern apartment in the heart of the city. "Well, it was a pleasure as always, you two," he said with a smile. "You're making waves in the hunting community, and I'm honored to be your handler."

Liu and Mei thanked him and bid him farewell, watching as he drove away in his car. Then, they turned to each other and grinned.

"Time to freshen up and grab some lunch," Mei said, leading the way into the apartment.

Liu nodded, following her inside. "I'm starving after that battle."

They spent the next hour relaxing and rejuvenating, enjoying a delicious lunch and each other's company. As they ate, they talked about their adventure and all the excitement they had experienced.

"I can't believe we cleared the Dimension gate in record time," Mei said, her eyes sparkling with pride.

Liu chuckled. "And I can't believe I picked up those valuable crystals. Who knew they'd be worth so much?"

Mei playfully rolled her eyes. "You're just lucky, Liu."

Liu grinned. "Hey, I'll take it."

After lunch, they spent some time lounging on the couch, enjoying each other's company and the warm glow of their success. It had been a long and eventful morning, but they knew they had each other's backs, and that was all that mattered.

They both decided to go round the city and see how things were in their new environment.

As they strolled around the street, they noticed a vibrant atmosphere, with people laughing and chatting, and the sound of music filling the air. They walked past street performers, including a juggler and a musician playing a guitar.

Mei stopped to watch the musician, mesmerized by his skillful playing. Liu joined her, and they listened together, enjoying the sweet melody.

As they continued their walk, they came across a small market, with vendors selling all sorts of interesting items, from handmade crafts to exotic spices. Mei's eyes widened as she explored the stalls, fascinated by the variety of goods on display.

Liu chuckled, watching her excitement. "You love markets, don't you?"

Mei nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, I do! There's always something new to discover."

As they wandered through the market, they stumbled upon a small food stall, wafting the most delicious aromas. Mei's stomach growled, and Liu laughed.

"Let's get some food," he said, leading her to the stall.

They ordered a few dishes to share, savoring the flavors and textures of the local cuisine. As they ate, they people-watched, enjoying the lively atmosphere of the street.

After their snack, they continued their leisurely walk, taking in the sights and sounds of the street. They popped into a few shops, browsing the wares and chatting with the friendly shopkeepers.

As the afternoon wore on, they found themselves at a small park, where they sat down on a bench to rest and take in the scenery. Mei leaned her head on Liu's shoulder, feeling content and at peace.

"This has been a lovely day," she said, her voice soft and relaxed.

Liu put his arm around her, holding her close. "Yes, it has. I'm glad we decided to take a walk and enjoy the street."

As they sat there, watching the world go by

, they both knew that this was what they needed – a break from the intensity of their hunting life, and a chance to connect with each other and the world around them.
