Chapter 21 - They Say the Stars Have Chosen Him

Kragnor sat atop a crumbling grey spire, the overgrowth and the stone cold against his scales.

The tower, compared to humanoids, was giant. Ludicrously so; but to Kragnor, it was his favorite seat to watch the stars. Not much else could support his size; having a wingspan of 104 feet made most dragon-sized appliances small to him. Miniscule, if he had to say.

But just three days ago, those stars- the stars that he would watch in the sky for hours- had betrayed him.

He had overheard some of his kin whispering in a dark, secluded shadow of their abandoned island-city paradise.

"Did you read the stars last night?" One of them had asked, to which the other had replied, "No, but whatever did it say?"

The first had then answered quickly, quietly. "Our Dragon King, Kragnor, is not the only Elven Wyvern... there's another one on his way here, and he is to be our king."

Kragnor had left before he could hear anymore; after all, it was idiocy. His brother, that other Elven Wyvern, was a cowardly traitor.

His brother, Skaelith, was a traitor who was directly responsible for the deaths of the other six Elven Wyverns.

Skaelith was a coward who ran away before Kragnor could exact justice upon him.

Kragnor took a deep, heavy breathe in.

Then he took a deep, heavy breathe out.

And he knew what he was going to do.

Stretching out his wings, he took flight; the spire he had been on shook with every beat of his wings, dust flew up from the disturbance, and loose leaves spiraled from the wind below.

Time to have a meeting with his advisors.

"Kragnor, my Lord... I understand your... concerns. But I doubt... that any of our..." Qui Tui, a Tideborne Higher Dragon, yawned loudly. He was always the most lethargic of any at the table.

"...what I mean to say, is that... we have enough gold to tide our kind over. I... I doubt... that this brother... of yours... has more treasures... than we do." His wings twitched slightly as he struggled to keep his eyes open and his head up; if Qui Tui wasn't so wise and intelligent, then Kragnor would've had the sleepiness bitten out of him.

Wveten, a member of the Pyrelight race, nodded in agreement. "Yes, I must say! Our Collective Vault has more treasures, gold, and silver than all of the humanoid kingdoms combined!" Wveten was on the louder side of the group, but he had to be; it was hard to hear him over the crackling of the mane of fire around his neck.

Kragnor looked over at Adivoz, the only Elven Ironhold Higher Dragon in the entire Collective Draconic.

"Well, Adivoz? I am awaiting your input, old friend."

The words came out of his mouth as if he had said them hundreds of times; truth is, he had. Advioz was the oldest Dragon in the entire Collective as well, being 608- just a year older than Kragnor himself.

For a few moments, there was a silence. For as young as Adivoz looked, she sure did think a lot...

"We need no further problems in the future. I suggest killing Skaelith the second he nears this continent. He killed Mother and Father, Uncle and Aunt, the Sisters. He did not do so by his own hand, but he orchestrated the event. So, I say that when we find him, we kill him."

Kragnor let out a low rumble as he considered this for but barely a moment; then, in an instant, he made his decision.

"Our guards on the continent are to patrol more often. If they see Skaelith, they are to kill him. The quieter it is done, the better. He does not deserve any fame for murdering his family."
