"Why didn't you catch it?!" Angela yelled, rushing to Zayden, who stood unwavering despite the arrowhead embedded in his skin. As the crimson blood soaked through his shirt, her vision blurred with tears.
"You wanted to vent," he replied with a small, teasing smile, appreciating her concern even as he admonished himself for thinking so.
"What do you mean, vent?!" Angela looked up at him, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "You could've died!" With trembling hands, she grasped the shaft of the arrow and yanked it free. Blood splattered across her face, and she couldn't hold back her tears any longer. "I'm so sorry," she murmured, cupping her hands around the wound, watching helplessly as blood slipped through her fingers, trickling down from beneath his shoulder.
